Ok what I don't get when im flying in an A6M2 and try to land on a carrier i always like not catch the cable...even with my hook out (of course) with full flaps on and im going like 70mph and when I touch down on the wires of the carrier I just keep on going. So i have to do it again and this time I go at a steeper angle and make sure my tail hits the carrier first on the cables but I go straight through it and land on my nose and when its all over im balancing on my nose with no engine... plz help...:confused:

the carrier deck is at 50 ft alt and moves at 50 mph (yea i know ) , i come in at 75-100 ft then set down in a 3 point landing , pull back on the stick slightly to plant the tailhook and grab the brakes .
Works everytime. For fun try a B-24 :D

Jet .... ive been crashing on cv's a long long time here .... i know how high the deck is ... But if ya would like to place ur bet ....

I'm not sure how far dow the arrestor hooks go but IMO you do need to get the tail low so it does engage the spagetti er wires and stop you.

Fuze is correct. If you comming in with a level landing you will not engage the hook. You have to land with a node up attitude. It's a controlled crash.

Learn to land with the hook up. After you can do it consistantly put the hook down....It's simple :)

Land without hook.
Really, with most prop fighters no problem to land without hook and you dont get the feared slingshot.
Untill the slingshot bug is fixed i land most carrier landings without hook.

I pride myslef in being able to land anything on a cv, i can land a lancaster on a cv, back it up, re-arm and take off again... try practicing landing B17's and B24's then Lancs on them, full flaps and go to F4 view, allot of time i wont even have to use brakes to stop cause the cv moves so fast in this game, and all u have to do to backup is, cut throttle all the way down and apply just a lil bit and youll start rollin backwards on the deck... if you need any help on cv landing just find me in the MA and i'll show you how its done with no hook, in whatever plane you can think of, the only one i havent been able to land is the 262 and ar234 rocket planes, cant seem to slow em down enough, i can land em on there and crash em into the side to stop and get a successful landing but not re-arm... if anybody needs any help on cv landings or knows how to land a 262 or 234 on one, either find me in the MA or email me at Iceman24@netzero.com :aok

Ok, back on topic. SAS_KID, I took an A6m5 up off a carrier the other night. Racked up 3 kills. When I tried to land it on the carrier guess what? Could not catch the wire. Now I usually fly F6Fs or FM2s. I had to land that zeke without catching the wire. Came in very slow, full flaps, NOSE up attitude and droped all 3 wheels on the deck. Perfect 3 point landing! NO CATCH! had to apply wheel breaks to stop just before the end of the deck.
I have no issues carrier landing in other planes so maybe SAS is on to something. I will try it again but I'm doing everything right as far as I know. Can't get that plane any slower than I am.

what i would do if i was havin problems with cv landings is find one where theres no enemy around and take off in various aircrafts and practice doing touchdowns, not actually landing, just touchdown and apply full throttle and takeoff again, if you are having problems seeing the carrier, do a couple of runs next to it, pretending the carrier is where you are landing but watching it to your left or right. Just remember that the carrier is moving forward ( away from you ) at 50+mph so if your moving at 80mph than your closure is only 30mph... another tip to ppl inexperienced in cv landings is to look at the wake ( waves left by the moving carrier ) and make sure it is goin straight and not turning, those are a lil touchier... if im in a fghtr i generally zoom in the last 3K or so to see a lil better as i feel the landing, i dont really watch the gauges ( done it so many times ) if im landing a bomber such as lanc, b17, b24, etc. I usually go to the F4 external view... if u need any help just let me know ;)

Try landing Corsairs on Carrier. Easiest plane to do it in IMHO

Ice, in my case it's not about landing procedures. I can land an F6F on a turning carrier. If I land a Zeke slow enough to stop it with wheel breaks well before the end of the deck, perfect 3 point landing right on wire 2 it should stop. Thing is it didn't. I took 3 shots at it. Powered back up and re-launched when around and tried it again. No go.
I will try it again tonight and film it.

Cliffra I'm not doubting your skills as a pilot at all man, maybe theres some type of bug or something with a zeke, I've never had a problem landing one that i can remember and I never use the hook on any type of plane... zeke is so light wind should effect it more when landing on a cv, but should definately stop easier for you, maybe since the cv is moving forward at 50mph, when you land your zeke, maybe the game is thinking your actually still in flight hence the low stall speed of the zeke, i bet thats the problem right there... i know when i take them off all i need is about 5-10 feet of deck, i usually dont even use diff brakes or steer it to the end, just go off the side... i would put money on it that when your coming in at 70-80 mph in the zeke and u hit the deck and slow to 60mph the game still thinks u are flying, and u vertually are because the cv speeds in this game are wayyyy exagerated... i will get on tonight and play around with the zeke and see if i have the same prob, i bet thats it, will get back to you tomorrow buddy

another problem with zekes in WWII that I dont think is reflected in this game is that allot of times they would break apart on landing on a cv, the cable would rip the weak tail's off, and allot of the time the gear wouldn't stand the impact of the cv landing, hence the Japs went lighter and lighter with there AC instead of reinforcing the gear and tail they just cheapened and lightened them up... i hate how all online WWII games make the Jap planes out to be way better than they really were, in reallity they were junk, they fell apart on takeoffs and landings, and when a bug hit the windshield they exploded, they only had a carrier return rate of 40 percent... horrible horrible planes all of them, the only good thing they built were torpedoes, there AC were designed to defeat the cheap WWI planes the Chinease were using, any good wildcat pilot could easily scratch 5 Jap planes easy

these arent jets with extended hooks
just land like any landing , stall it and everything else does what its supposed to do.
if you have a problem in stalling the plane or viewing the deck then you try ruddering(slip) more to push the nose to one side or you're coming in too flat and probably too fast, come in at an angle that you think initially too steep just watch your airspeed, you dont really fly a plane to land it ,you fly it into position then you basically make it fall outta the sky(stall) onto the deck or runway. Also this method will get you back to base on the concrete runway alot more if you're bird is shot up or dead stik, you wont go skidding off the end of the runway and blow the perk up. Quick stall approach also gets you on the ground and back into the tower alive alot faster if someones on your tail and your outta ammo or gas.
Practice this at an airfield , come in at near 45deg angle and float the plane down at just above stall speed with the nose pushed nearly all the way to one side for the config of your a/c , point the space just above and between your forward cowling and gunsight at the landing portion of the runway and hold it there and that is where you will touch down, just dont panic if you do stall and power up too abruptly the torque may spin you over and you go splat on the ground with these high powered warbirds.

nice clips, I knew you could land 262's on em, I've tried and only ended up needing about an extra 5-10' ....of coarse I havent played long enough to build up 10,000 fighter points like some of u guys lol.... also learned from that clip that the cv is moving at 34-35 mph not 50mph which i previously thought...
Cliffra, I flew the Zeke last night about 5 sorties and 2 of them I just did takeoffs and landings... She stopped on a dime for me each time buddy... even did it while the cv was turning and found it to be no prob, i have pedalas, and toe brakes... took just 2 , 3 second toe taps to stop it, allot of times i didnt even have to really use brake... not sure whats goin on buddy, i'm not technical ( nerdified ) enough to know if it could be the game or not... if u get a film cliffra post it or email it to me at debearden@siegling-us.com would luv to see what ur talkin about

Ice, no, didn't think you were questioning my skills. It's just wierd. I originally thought SAS was doing something wrong but now I don't know.
Yeah, I have pedals and toe breaks also and I can stop the seke on the deck but it just does not seem to make that dead stop that other planes do on carrier landings. Have not had time to try it out as last night I was farting around with my new router, got online and squad needed assistance. It was late anyways. I will try it again tonight.
You land an F6F on the CV and it stops dead. (which is a bit unrealistic, but not a big deal) but the zeke5 I had to stop using breaks. You mention breaks but you should no have to use them on the CV. The plane should stop in an instant. Believe me I had that Zeke really slow. I swear I have landed them on the CV just fine before.
I will try and file some tonight and see if I can reproduce the problem

I just tried a few CV landings in TA with the A6M2. I tried with and without flaps and was able to set it down and stop with the wires and hook, no brakes required. I also had one that shot me off the CV rearward like a slingshot.
It seems whatever is or is not happening is not consistant. IMO, and whenever I use my opinion I duck quickly afterword, that means its pilot technique. At least more so than a definate bug in the game or code.
Not saying there is or isn't a problem jut that it's not consistant.

Tested out A6M2 and A6M5 on carrier in the TA this morning.
I made multiple landings with hook down on CV with both aircraft.
I was unable to reproduce any fault whatsoever.
Each landing resulted in catching the wire and coming to a complete and abrupt stop on the deck.
SAS Kid are you sure that your hook is down? (you should see the hook light turn green if it is down).
I have no doubt that you are experiencing something odd, but I don't think it is a fault with the game. It seems to work as advertised for me. Kind of odd.
I have film of a couple of the CV landings if you want them. Maybe you will see something that will shed some light on it for you?

cliffra reading your poste again I realize that I think I know what your talking about, your not having a problem stopping it with brakes, your just saying it should stop allot quicker suxh as a heavier us plane, I know what your talking about now, no its not a bug, I think maybe the game takes into account the coeffecient of friction between the wheels and the deck, a heavier plane would have allot more friction and be able to stop more abruptly, than say a lighter plane, because your wheels are actually sliding when you hit your brakes, not like in your car... i'm sure most of you alread know that just FYI for newer guys...a good example would be to take a peice of paper and slide it across your desk or another flat surface, not take a book and slide it, notice the diff, the book is heavier there for has greater coeffiecient of friction on the desktop than the piece of paper... I hope I'm not overanylizing the problem or anything but I think thats what is going on... anybody else think I may be correct ?

I'm sorry I can't remember which great mind said this, think it was Einstein or Newton that says objects at rest tend to stay at rest or something along those lines, I'm sure someone reading this knows exactly what it is... I never thought about it like that before thats pretty neat if this game thinks that way ;)

For some CV fun...
Take off in your carrier aircraft of choice.
Lower your arrestor hook.
Back up to the back of the carrier.
Hilarity ensues.
OR for a challenge.
Both the B5N and D3A can be landed on the back of the CRUISER. The B5N at least can also get airborne again from it. It's also possible to land a B5N on the _FRONT_ of the cruiser. The trick is that you wont collide with that crane-like attachment on the back of the cruiser.
What other planes can you land in interesting places? (Try on top of hangars, on a destroyer, etc).

i can land anything on anything... landed a lanc on a destroyer before bcause cv was gone... i personally think all the bigger planes such as big bombers are easier to land, and no u dont have to hit anything to make em stop, u can land em back up by applyin a tad of throttle and rearm refuel and take off again, in any AC... finally did it with a 262 last night it was rough, took several passses before i got it down just right and bingo stopped right at the end and backed up rearmed and did it again
