I might be off my rocker on this one but here's the deal.
A lot of pilots whine about this plane is superior, that plane is not modeled accurately, should be perked, blah blah blah...here's my proposal. Think outside the box for a minute here.
Design an arena that only offers one model of aircraft to choose from.
That means it would be LaLa's versus LaLa's.
N1K2 vs. nikky
Juggy vs. Juggy
F4's vs. F4's
P-38's .....
You get the idea. All variables would be taken away except for pilot skill and flying smarts.
Of course this takes away the historically accurate aspect of the game but it would offer folks a way to even the playing field and really learn the true attributes of an aircraft not only from an offensive perpective but defensive one as well.
And best of all,no more whining and I'm sure a lot more well earned salutes.
That's all,thanks for listening.

head to head arena? sounds like that is what you asking for

Sounds like a lot of work, and I don't think very many ppl would fly in it, unless the planes were the uberfighters, like spits and lalas. Then even that would get boring quick. I agree with Killnu.

head to head arena?
Yes I guess so. Only you know the enemy is flying the same plane as you.

The arena would have as many bases available as there are fighter style aircraft, including uberfighters, in pairs. One for you,one for the opposition.
It would not be hard to only have one type of a/c available at each pair of bases. Instead of numbers, each base would be named for the plane available at that specific base.
As I ponder the concept myself ,it occurs that this would be mainly a training type scenario certainly not for everybody, just those that really want to improve and learn on a level, fair and even playing field.

Thank you for the links DipStick. Thats a great idea and the map design would be perfect. but not exactly what I'm talking about here.
Maybe I'm not making myself clear somehow. You would pick a base, example "Bf-109-G10".
Grab the 109 from the hanger and take off in the direction of the enemy base. There any opponent who ups is going to be in the exact model as you.
Now, the two of you(or more probably) would try to kill each other. All things being equal, the winner is the better pilot, that round anyway.
Say I get shot down, I will learn from my errors in judgement or I will learn from my opponents superior moves. Either way I will become a better pilot knowing that I wasn't wupped because of various advantages between one aircraft over another.
Here's another example. When a buddy and I would play Madden football on my Playstation2,sometimes we would pick identical teams just to level the playing field and eliminate any sort of advantage one team had over the other. When I kicked his butt, he knew it was only me and my skills which beat him. I also had to show him some of my tricks I used to beat him. It was a friendly exchange in which we both increased our knowledge and it made for some great gameplay, especially when we went online against the world(MA).
I just would think it very cool to take my nikky or any aircraft I choose, up against another on an equal basis. I know training is there and yes it is possible to set up a similar scenario if somebody switched sides and agreed to fight you but.....one big hassle too and pain in the arse.
I know it may not be an accepted idea but if it was in place, I believe it would be the best way to really learn how to fly a virtual aircraft to the best of your ability,no crying allowed.
Just a positive fun arena to fly and learn in, all things being equal except skill.

The DA used to be just that until it was turned into romper room.
In my FA, the "single matchup" area could've been used in various ways from week to week including 'same planes'.
-
I've never tried the DA. Mainly because I didn't believe it would help improve my skills, just give somebody the chance to hand me my butt flying their favorite plane, and me mine. Fun but not an equal fight and nothing gained except "bragging rights",well deserved or not.
What do you mean by "my FA"?
Fighter arena?
-
LtD,
Your ideas do sound good, just as DipSticks FA sounded good but they do not work in reality. People just do go into these arena. FA was tried in the CT and it failed. I went in and it was fun but it didn't draw people in. The last few days it was empty during prime time EST.
The DA used to be a lot of fun. It was mostly guys flying turn fighters to have some good fun. It has, as Dip said, turned into Romper Room without the teacher. It's gotten to the point where you can't even hold squad practice in there without some kid sticking his snotty nose into it.
People are always going to whine about the UBER planes. If you perk the current UBER planes they will start whining about some other plane. They are getting killed and not getting kills so there has to be a reason other than their skills. The current complaint is the LA7.
The SEA is the only place your going to fly early war rides in any kind of good combat. Maybe the CT will get revitalized when they get some new maps done. We can only hope.

You seem to know a lot about something you never tried.

You don't have to touch the stove to know that it's hot dedalos.
I would be inclined to take FX1 up on his generous offer(thank you!) but again as I stated earlier, the logistics of meeting up and arranging it is a hassle. If the PSA (plane specific arena) it was in place and available anytime, it would be no problem at all.

Or you can just go in the DA and ask: "Hey guys, who wants to try out xxx plane". Not very complicated really. Come on in and ask. I think you wory too much about deing than actually learning.
Oh, and if you think you need help, say so. Don;t expext the other guy to know that. As far as he knows you are having fun shooting at planes. I have not seen any one that came in the DA asking for help and did not get any. Just make sure that it is not brat time. Look for (Hemp and Phish) if you need real help. The others can help too but we are not as good.

Good idea dedalos. I just figured guys would want to fly what they want, but I'll give it a go.
I usually play after work 2nd shift, which is about 11pm p.s.t.,west coast USA.
I am not a good fighter with about a 1:1 kill/death ratio and a rather low 3.315 hit%.
I just want to learn the specific planes and their capabilities so I know exactly what my opponents plane is cabable of.
Know thy enemy!

I think I know about the capabilities of 4 planes so far :D

Well, good luck to you, LtD. I hope if you try this your experience is a good one. Lately the DA has degenerated into a primary school playground without any supervision. All sense of honor and desency has gone by the way side. Maybe it's just summertime and when the kiddies go back to school it will get back to normal. we can only hope.

Its not just the kids. They just follow what the adults are doing (if you want to call them that.) But, you can always change countries and go to a different field if you want to practice with someone. Once you find someone whiling to help its easy. You may have a problem if you come in during spoild brat time but not during the late hours.
(EDIT)
BTW, you are right, there are some real POS personalities in there but as long as they py $15, HT welcomes them.

Problem is they follow. They look for the BarDar and go to those fields. We move to A19 & A20 Sunday night for squad training and had some morons follow us there and completely ignore our requests to leave us be. It was not like this just a few short months ago.
LtD, yeah they do follow what the adults do at times but it is more a matter of them knowing they are in an environment where they can get away with this with out any repercussions. It amuses them to annoy other people and to start the cussing contests.
Don't want anyone kicked out or anything like that. They pay, they can play. I will just not "play" along with them.

Just jump em as a squad a couple o times and I bet they'd leave ya alone:D

Well, that is basically what we ended up doing.
Yeah, they can be dealt with but that isn't the point. Some of us have limited time that doesn't need to be wasted on them.
