OMG I think my parents HAD that exact same modle. That sucker was a beast. It had vacume tubes in it that would glow. I bet the thing still works to this day.
-
You get the Onkyo brand over there?
I have a HIFI (amp and cd player) in my cave with some Mission speakers. Nice sound.
Maybe not very classical tho, early 90's I think.
-edit- 1988 models
DX-530 integra cd player and A8170 integra amp
-
mines set up with 1 pair cerwin vega s-2's,
A pair of Bose 501's , and a custom set of 15 inch pyles in speakerlab boxes. as in the lights dim , windows crack ,and breakers pop when this puppy gets turned up .(1100 watts total rms )
they made a stepped down version that you could get in the states that was 600 watts rms. (i see these on ebay all the time fir around $400 )
yes ive seen Onkyo's befor .
i like the late 60's to early 80's stuff , theres nothing to compare with the old tube regulated amps sound wise and cant be reproduced digitaly . (the crackle fizzzzzzzzle ....... Snap! of one firing up is music in its self )
:D

Classic stereos? You mean there is new stuff???? Man o man, I use a Pioneer reel to reel tape deck still. I actually have 2 reel to reel decks hooked up at the monent. People who hear it is amazed it works and wonder what it is. Its very hard to beat a reel to reel deck for fidelity especially at 7 1/2 " speeds and better. Also, I use a vacuum tube preamp. Nothing sweeter than the sound of warm tubes. A 325 watt per channel rms solid state power amp to excite my Magnepan SMGa planar speakers. I also use a classic Kenwood tuner and use a power conditioner on all of the equipment.
-
I dang near forgot that down in my model airplane building room I have a set of Janszen electrostatic speakers, model 400, made in 1958. I power them with a dynaco tube amp which is 35 watts rms per channel. A tube watt is like the equivalent to a car engine rated at the taxable horsepower. In other words, it is a real, genuine, watt of power.

Remember the killer 8 track teac real to reals .. i had Dark side of the moon (the live Wemblely version) recorded in Quad way back when ... those were the days ... hunting for "Master" recordings was a blast too. pink noise generators , cement filled turntables .... muhahahahaa
-
Udes to have an old Dynaco Amp & preamp my father built from a kit back in the early 70's. Least I think thats what they were named.
LOL I remember he wanted me to hold a resistor or something for him while he soldered it in place and he said and I quote" You move it even a little bit while Im doing this and I'll break you arm"
Nothing like putting a little pressure on a kid not to screw up.
Man I was like a statue. A bomb coulda went off and I wasnt gonna move. LOL
they are long gone but I still have a pair of the original Bose 901 series speakers.
Still sound great too

You guys know that they still make brand new tube equipment, don't you? Yes, there are still a few companies making vacuum tubes, China and Russia mainly. The link below is just one tube amp manufacturer of many.

Roscoroo, if you don't have any luck, try going to this forum...audioasylum (http://www.audioasylum.com)
I've had great luck getting a manual or two by asking there. They have a separate amp/preamp forum and also a vintage area, along with tube and other great stuff. Its a very nice forum, much like here.

i got a old marantz with the gyro tuning.late 70's i think.i found the poor thing in a junk pile while going out shooting...was just laying in the road.in great shape...i took it home..hooked it up to my old 15inch pile's..and 2 10 inch pioneers...and it realy suprized me..pounded really good ..i never hooked my newer pioneer up sence....blows it away...hooked my dvd player and tv up to it...i think some one thought it was old junk and tossed it away...it does look like out dated crap..but when i picked it up i could feal how heavy it was and see all the conections in the back..i new it was some what powerful and worth seeing if it worked..lol
-
thats what im using now (a marantz 2240) til i get the timer curcuit fixed in my Kenwood
marantz made some great stuff, but there switches get dirty too fast and the lamps seam to burn out faster then any thing else ive owned .
oh yea thanks for the link Frazzy .
-
cool roo..mine says 2265b..every thing seems to work fine on it so far...the one i got has the wood trim sides..but it is not in a cass..just wood slats only on the sides of it..i found one on ebay like mine..but it didnt have the heavy wood on the sides..and it was going for 400 with 12bids..so i figured they had to be worth somthing..lol
-
Whats cool about the marantz's is they were all hand assembled and you wont find 2 exactly the same (even the same model #'s are different) ive had 5 marantz's and they were all powerful , but each one kinda had its own sound if ya know what i mean . Kinda like Guitars or other instruments thats why there such collector peices .
ebay had a black faced kenwood super 11 on it a week ago or so ..(the really rare model) it went for over $700 (thats what i paid for mine brand new, they sold for 900-1200 in the US at that time)
-
dusty mess lol ..

I still have a Technics SA5470 and a pair of Pioneer HPM 100 speakers that I bought in 1977 and sound crisp as the day they were purchased. I use the system to amplify my satellite TV audio or play XM when I want to listen to music at home.
-
I have a Kenwood Eleven III with a pair of Kenwood KL-777d's in our bedroom.
-
ya..that kenwood looks like a monster:) i notice marantz makes some big boy ones too..but there out of site on price..i seen one seling for 5,000 for a tube amp...i didnt know they were colectible at all...till i popped in the name on ebay..and seen bunch for sale and allmost every sale had bids on it
custom made too huh?..nice:)..i know back in the 70's marantz was a big name..didnt pioneer buy the company in the 80s and junk there products? i heard in the 80's marantz took a dive

Sry, resend the E-mail. There's an awful lot of stuff i've dropped the ball on... Without going into detail, It's not my fault. But I am slowly regaining controll and will finish everything I started:)
I still have a few hurdles in life to get over then I'm threw to the other side. Life is a CRAP sandwich, and every day you have to wake up and take a bite. Right now my life is a jumbled mix of lawyers, remodeling, broken equipment and work. Not to throw in
I moved an hour away from my business and have no working vehicel as I type this. ( with one hand, since I tore my rotator cuff)
. Other than that, I am starting to regain controll of my life.( no we're not talking addiction).

I have a "harman/kardon" hk 330i that is older then I am. That makes it classic to me. I sort of *cough* stole it from my mom when she was going to toss it out.
