I spent Friday afternoon puttering around this small collection of aircraft about 20 mins from my house. Donations and volunteers keeps this collection alive.

Freak'n old timers are hiliarious to watch work. As per usual they quietly belly-ache about the previous work done by others.
Someone snubbed the nose of the Fokker on landing and the rear airframe was damaged. Mel is getting her ready for a show in NY State. I stayed and machine gunned questions until they finally realized they could scare me off by trying to put me to work!

Saturday, I went to see the Russel Group's Spit IX in a show about an hour away from my place. The wife was a bit apprehensive about going since every airshow she has attended someone has died. The haze was as thick as butter and once in the air it was hard to get a good shot, 42C humidex.

The pilot in front (Doug Ryerson, 53) crashed his kit aircraft just after takeoff. He banked hard right and the aircraft stalled just past the runway over a construction site of new homes. He was killed on impact.

Sab, the cars were @ 1/80 shutter, hand held @ 150mm-200mm. went to a local small airport to practice and got the prop blur for planes down as well @ 1/160 shutter. interesting enough i got quite a few clear shots without being perpendicular to the object, as a matter of fact i got more crisps shots from a slight angle view, could be my panning speed.
morbid way to earn my first by-line with the pic of Doug Ryerson.

Do you know offhand what Kit aircraft is the lil Amphib Pusher Ryerson was flying and how it was powered? Looks like a really kewl lil plane.. from your description and the humidity I'd guess he just pulled to hard on the turn... such a shame. Flying ain't supposed ta be a death-defying feat these days. :( Beyond that.. did it seem to have adequite power for real off-water operations? The hull form looks real good....

yep, the pusher was a sweet look'n plane, perfect for northern ontario or say the finger lakes in ny. as i told Doug an hour before hand all it needed was a wet well. i have to admitt they did seem to lumber up slowly during takeoff. Doug had 20 000 hours flying time and 1600 with the pusher. you nailed it tho he just banked too hard and stalled her out, to his credit he did maneuver to avoid houses and drove her into a contruction site.
Nath, i think the 109 was at another show. from what i hear the russel group may do another show with the vintage ww i planes come fall.
