Title: Joint Ops - muppetland
Post by: TheDudeDVant on June 28, 2005, 10:36:19 AM
Hi all.. Just giving a heads up incase some of you guys play JO..

My group I play with just got a new 64player server up on the NorthAmerican games..  Server name is AOM.. The server is set as a tdm server atm with just a few of the best stock maps.. Custom maps to come.  Lots of fun to be had in a friendly environment!  Stats are tracked by ambo stats.  So, bring your friends for the killing!  8)

Last night was our first night up and reached almost 20 peps.. lol  I hope for it to start filling up soon!  So, come join the fun!

I was considering buying this game and the expansion.  Do a lot of people still play it?

Why when BF2 is out?

Sure it is maybe a touch more realistic, but the vehicle combat is just garbage.

Yeah my Joint ops is on the shelf for awhile. Bought the expansion for it too and gotta say I enjoy the original game more than the expansion, picked it up for 14 bucks though so no biggie. Get BF2 or wait for the 1st patch to fix some problems.

JO is boring, I picked it up and then got the expansion, thinking the tanks would be better then in BFV, since it seemed like they were going for more realism.

Boy was I wrong, LAME. Lamer then BFV and thats saying something.

And no way is JO even close to as good of a game for fun as BF2.

The comander system in BF2 alone makes JO look like a sad joke.

But hey if you like it have fun, if thats possible.

The reason I ask is because I'm sitting only on a 64 meg video card with no real choice to update it.

So BF2 is out.

Laser
It is a great game for sniping, dont take the base 308 one though. There is a more powerfull bolt gun, you can take head shots at really long distances, like they have no chance to shoot back.

Sniping was fun, the rest was pretty lame.

dont play if for the vehicles as they are pretty much just lame..  JO is a first person shooter meaning the game is built around the foot soilder.  Thats whats fun to me, the gun battles..  1-1 shooting or 10-10 shooting.. lol driving a tank, mobile pillbox, or the like against peps playing on foot is akin to sitting for hours in a manned 5inch gun..  just lame and certainly not very sporting..

I can understand one not having fun playing JO alone..  If I had to play alone i'd prolly loose interest too.. lol It is a team oriented game.. For certain the game rules with a couple of good folks running with you...  Thats what the game is all about..  I'm lucky enough that we have about 20-25 peps in my squad that play JO.. Pretty much makes it fun all the time.. lol

Our server will be open to anyone that would like to play.. I doubt anyone would be able to shoot with us (forawhile), but I promise if you enjoy the game, you'll enjoy our server and get a good set of fundamentals from playing with and against us.. 8)

lol I like snipers too.. They pad my kill scores.. 8)

Your talking about the L115 here.. I think thats the name.. Prolly the best sniper rifle in the game.. But again.. sniper are nothing more than targets.. lol  Even when they are hiding well in the grass or good cover, you can still see the muzzle flash and find them..  like I said.. targets.. lol

I enjoyed playing JO but just uninstalled it because I haven't played in a long time....I personally like being able to fly in on a Blackhawk or Little bird carrying strike troops and keep ferrying those guys in and out. It makes it fun avoiding the other helo gunships and stinger carrying lurkers at the bases.

Well, I bought the game, even though I probably don't have enough money.

I have to say, I'm really dissapointed by the type of gameplay all around.  Strafe whoring, MG toting, dweebiness all around.

No one sits still to take a shot.  All they do is run back and forth spamming up an auto relying on luck rather than skill.

No one goes for cover.  No one tries to use cover.

Hell, no one uses any teamplay.  I have yet to meet a single person online with an IQ over 20.  And I'm not exhaggerating about that.  People fly helos that swerve all over the place.  I CAN'T GET A SHOT OFF IF YOU ARE CHANGING DIRECTIONS EVERY HALF SECOND!

I thought that Muppetland would be my respite from all of this.  A bunch of intelligent people playing smartly and using tactics.

It wasn't.

The game is going back tomorrow morning.

Just retired my JO discs with BF2. BF2 is everything JO tried to do but done so much better. The Chinese maps with the swamp and fog are JO meets 2005 maps. Once the damage model in BF2 is corrected this will be the game to own.. no more AA and JO for me....

I still think JO is a great game.  It's not a good simulation of any type of real combat, but it's a very nicely balanced game with a good strat model, huge maps, and 75 players per side.
I doubt I will play it much now that BF2 is out, but don't knock JO.  BF2 isn't exactly a high fidelity sim either.
Good luck with the server, muppets.

lol Not sure what you were expecting?? strafe whoring?? umm.. lol   should they stand still for you to shoot them?? lol

Too bad I missed you in our server as I was not able to play yesterday, if you did..

And moving and shooting in a fps IS skill my man.. lol  That is if you can do it acurately..  You can't sit in one cover the whole time.. lol  thats camping I thought..  anyway, sorry you had a bad time..  i did warn that not many would be able to shoot with us their first day.. lol

Don't think you will be able to return an opened game, but good luck with that!

Thanks Funked..  we'll need it.. lol  Gonna be interesting trying to fill it up.. 8)

No, they should stand still to shoot back, or possibly move very slowly.

This simple modification alone would make the entire game THOUSANDS of times better.

It's just not any fun when guys are full out sprinting in circles strafing each other to death with M60's.  There's no skill or brain use involved in this.

I think he's getting at the realism angle.  In JO you can make headshots at 150 yards while running sideways at 10-15mph.  Try that with a real rifle.  :)
Personally, I just pretend the characters in JO are little robot tanks.  :)

Understood.. imo that'd make a mighty stail(sp) game..  but to each their own.. lol

robot tanks.. lmao   good stuff!

I likke JO in many ways ..... some things just annoy me to not wanting to play it

Like unlimted nade launcher  spammers

like shooting and hitting guys with knifes only to have them prone at your feet and slice your boot for a one shot kill

tho's are major things that just make me not have fun..... and there are few others that bother me but these two seriously take away the fun factor for me most times I play

All the shooting games I play are realism.  It was a cultural shock to come to JO and find out that it's easy as pie to run full speed to the side while shooting the M60 only to suddenly change direction then get blown up by the 3 RPG lamers.

It's very unfortunate these days when MODS of games are better than full retail games themselves.  If you have an old UT99 CD, look up Infiltration.
