One of the things we need to be thinking of is economics as well. Oil is what makes the world go around right now. Its used for power and such.
President Bush had on his orginal agenda when he was elected to become less dependant on foriegn oil. We're too involved with that region of the world because of it.
I hope one of the benefits of all of this is a whole lot less dependence with this region of the world and more self sufficency. Either thru Nuclear power plants and perhaps a new "Manhatten Project" (ironic name) for that rumored fusion power. Remember, before the second world war there was no nuclear bomb. In this new style of war we need a new "bomb". One plugged into the power lines.
Ok, this is probably wishful thinking on my part, but it is on my mind and I want to vent it. If it were not for that damn oil, we would be free of this situation. Damn it, we need out. This is one of the things we can work on.

These militant islamic fundamentalists hate western culture and want to kill it.
Even if we didnt need *their* oil they would still want all of us in western civilization to die. Thats how I see it and that how I will treat it.

because we support Isreal with money and arms that are used to steal there land and deny them any sort of human dignity and Kill them.

Its also possible to use alcohol as a fuel in a cars and side effect would be nice: Farmers around the U.S would have more work = more money.
In late '70s - early '80s Saab was manufacturing "Petro-Saabs" in Finland which was using wood-alcohol as a fuel. Exhaust gasses smelled bad but concept itself was good thought our goverment put a high tax for those cars so it was cheaper to use gasoline...
AFAIK at least VW and GM are manufacturing cars in Brasil which are using alcohol as a fuel (or maybe mixed with gasoline, not sure).
It is possible to cut down usage of oil but are consumers ready to use/buy alcohol or diesel cars, maybe pay more for fuel or buy hybrid-cars like Toyota Prius or electric-cars or change their cars to smaller ones with fuel consumption of 3,5-4,5liter/100km like VW Lupo/Seat Ibiza diesels?

1 Gallon=3.785 Liter so it would be +60miles/gallon.
Only losers would be Oil-Companies and OPEC and winners would be consumers (less money for fuel), U.S Treasury (smaller Dollar-flow out of U.S) and environment (smaller emissions) as far as I can see.
I could be wrong of course :)

We have for years used our influence (militarily or monetary) in ways that results in them hating the west.
All those "other" reasons you stated are just "proof" to them on how "decadent" they percieve us.
Isreal is the most "obvious" proof of our disregard for their "values".

Absolutely amazing some of the crap certain individuals are spewing out here in light of recent events.
Considering all that has happened, I find it sickening that you come here and make the statements that you make.
And as for you stomp...diddly off!! I dont remember the last time anybody from the US flew a jetliner into a national monument in the middle east.

Staga petrol based products are used in about everything manufactured.
gas isnt even the main product produced from oil.
plastics, fibers for clothing and numerous other products etc...
The only alternative to middle eastern oil is to drill for more outside the middle east and there is great opposition here (US) to doing that.
the fact is an acohol car isn't going eliminate the worlds need for petro chemicals.
however enviromentally carbon emmissions from vehicles could be eliminated. But imo the cost far out ways any such benefit.
Oil is the life blood of the world economy. The west has an interest in keeping oil flowing. Inevitably that burden falls on the US.

Use hemp oil. It is fully generated from hemp seeds and needs NO modifications on diesel cars. Just use it as you would use conventional diesel fuel.
You can also mix it freely with conventional diesel fuel.
Its non-toxic, easy to produce, CHEAP and very RELIABLE (more reliable than the middle east oil). Remember, hemp could also replace cotton or ANY organic fiber material thats in currently use, including wood, so the other remaining plant parts would have significant uses. Oh and it produces more fiber/acre than any other plant in the world. Before 1930 sudden global ban it was the worlds most used plant everywhere. Guess where textile name "Canvas" originates?
