The damn thing is broke or dead, either way I cant play AH for a while, till its fixed or - HOPE! - we get a new one. So Ill cyas all later.
BTW whats a good computer to buy? Is P4 any good, or Athlon, whats a good video card?
thanks GRUNHERZ

Get a Duron and overclock it.
A good motherboard like an Abit K7
Cheap PC-100 ram (its very cheap now)
A hard disk with enough space
it should all be very very cheap
as for the video card, try to find a GeForce 2 GTS 32mb they are cheap now, around $150 online.
Go to www.anandtech.com (http://www.anandtech.com) and go to forums, and go to For Sale/Trade
People sell stuff there VERY cheap and they are very reliable Ive bought dozens of things and NEVER been screwed up.

How much do you want to spend?
I just put a Duron 800 together for my sister. It cost $650.00.
Duron 800
MSI K7 Master
128Mb PC133 RAM
GeForce2 MX 32mb
20gb 7200rpm 2mb cache Ultra DMA 100 hard drive.

Come back soon Grunherz. You'll be missed...

I second Animal's recommendation. I just installed an ABIT KT7 but with the Athlon T-Bird 900. It's rock steady. The KT7 has just about every overclocking bell and whistle you could want including fine control on core and I/O voltages plus very fine resolution on the clock speeds. Because I've got a 100 MHz memory stick, I'm still running the FSB kinda slow (105 MHz) but I go conservative for reliability and it is still a screamer. A little more than the Duron, but the Athlon has more horsepower up front with its cache.

Yeah go for AMD
I was a sucker and bought an Intel mob. Now I have to pay 2200 DKK for an upgrade to an 850 PIII.
I can get an Athlon TBird 900 for 1500DKK. Says something about the price difference.
Just to compare the two.

I have a 700mhz AMD and it's worked great from day one. I had a local computer shop build this and I've been completely satisfied. I like it that they are small so service is personal. My cousin got a Gateway and has had literally EVERYTHING go wrong with it. It's been in for service as long as it's been in use.

You'll find it much cheaper to build your own PC. Plus the fact that you'll get what YOU want in it, not some off the shelf stuff with the AGP on the MB etc. It is not as hard to build a computer as one might think. I built this one in november of 99. At that time I used an Athlon 600, ASUSK7M MB, ISA 3COM Modem, IBM Deskstar HD DMA66, and at that time a Diamond Viper 770 vid card. I purchased the MB so that in the future if I wished to upgrade the processor I knew I could without purchasing another MB. Last week I installed an Athlon 950 that I purchased off the web. It's slot A. I flashed the BIOS so my amd751 chipset could recognize the 950 and everything is fine. Points are: #1) In the long run it is cheaper to build your own PC. #2) You can install anything you want in it as long as the components you select work together. #3) Plus you, when you build a PC can buy a motherboard that will be able to be upgraded in the future, not by 50 to 100mhz, but by 300mhz or better. Sure saves money buying only the processor and downloading a flash, instead of paying 1000 dollars at least for a new one that off the shelf might just not do what you want it to do without upgrading the components yourself. If a complete idiot like me can do it, I know for a fact that the majority in here can do it better <G>

With Asus A7V you can do all that KT7 can do, AND change the CPU multiplier via dipswitches. The Abit Kt7 isn't a bad board, it's just not the best board IMO. Go to www.tomshardware.com (http://www.tomshardware.com) . There is a great article on building your own system using the A7v and AMD Thunderbird (or duron). There are also good benchmarks showing that the A7V is the fastest KT133 board available.
If you can't tell, I'm saying you should look into an AMD system as well. AMD Durons or Athlon Thunderbirds are: Faster than PIII (and in many cases P4), are cheaper, and would be WAY faster for AH. (The K7 series core has a FPU at least 33% better than the P3 OR the P4. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) )

Bloom;
I am using an A7V and its a >>GREAT<< board BUT: NO ISA SLOTS.
This really killed me because I used 2 isa slots.
Other than that the board is awesome.

Go with the Duron (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) they are cheap and kick ass!
Come back soon Grun...

Come back soon Grunherz.
Cheers,

That's true Animal. On the other hand, PCI devices are almost always faster, use less system resources, and can share interupts. Besides, how many people buy new devices that are ISA?

Yes, get the AMD Alton Tbird. I have the 800 Tbird in my rig. It's alot cheaper to buy but it's up there in proformance with the Intel P3. Form what I've heard, the P4 has alot of bugs in it. Besides, you end up paying more for the P3 than the AMD.

Well (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) As much as we disagree'd on WWII aircraft and WWII history Grunherz, I do have to say I'll miss seeing you on line. Hurry on back!!!!!!
