Rules:
Winner is player who has best combined K/D in 6 types TIMES total kills in the 6 types.
Types are ONLY Spit-I, Hurri-I, P-40B, A6M-2, 109E-4 & C202.
A minimum of 10 kills must be earned in each type.
Players must post their own math at the end of the Tour/Contest
Example of score reporting:
Player name
Spit-I – 10/10
Hurri-I – 10/10
P-40B – 10/20
A6M-2 – 15/5
109E-4 – 15/5
C202 – 20/10
Total – 80/60
80/60 = 1.33333 K/D
1.33333 K/D times 80 kills = 106.667
Player name score = 106.667

In a fixed flack battery, yes. Not in a Flakpanzer. To his credit, I think I read that he defected/went AWOL.

What the heck did you guys in the last contest do?? I've taken the P-40b up a couple of times, and opponents keep diving to hide in the ack! The ones that DO come out and fight only seem to try for HO shots. I think some of you must have put the fear of the P-40 into some of these folks lol. :aok
So far the Spit I seems to be the only plane of the set I can be particularly successful in. Mostly it seems to be luck though. I just seem to run into better situations in the Spit. The others I have had numerous kill opportunities, but dont have time to score kills in a furball. Especially the 202, I ripped a 205 over and over again at convergence range and got no noticeable damage on him. Of course he ran to hide in the ack, and I took enough damage from the ack that he was able to get on my 6 and take my wing off with his cannon. You definitely want an exit strategy in mind if you go furballin with these things lol. So far this is a fun contest. Of course it helps having such a nicely situated furball area on the center island.

Yer a better man than I am. I tried the Emil again tonight and did manage 2 more kills in it, but for some reason tonight I kept taking oil/engine damage. Really hard to see out of the 109 cockpit with the oil on the windscreen. :( Retiring for the night before I get too frustrated lol.

Man, maybe I need to change sides so I can bag my 10 without fear of death. The 40B and and Hurri1 are con magnets in a furball.
Won't even bother posting my score, ran a bunch of field defense sorties as 'fighter. Flying the worthless planes is fun though, I'll give it that.

I got myself kilt in a P-40B in my only sortie so far this tour. Note to self, don’t try to B & Z LAs in a P-40B, they can equal your E after one loop.

Both planes are too good. The six planes in this contest typically have the worst fighter K/D in the MA. IMO, fighter K/D is a good indicator of overall aircraft quality. This is especially true at the low end.

The Hurri-IID would have been next, but it has a significantly better K/D, and there has to be a cut off somewhere. Originally this contest was to be for 100 kills in Spit-I, Hurri-I, P-40B & C202. However, I had a concern of requiring 100 kills because only 1 person in the last P-40B contest made it to 100. 10 kills in 6 planes is much more doable. We certainly can tweak things for another tour.
IMO the Hurri-IID and F4F are much better planes than this set; mostly due to their guns.

Well, at least I got started.
I spent a lot of time tonight just trying to catch up to the bad guys and then getting clobbered when I managed to find them.
I did have one very memorable sortie however:

Still struggling. Not for lack of dweeb targets even I can shoot down, just because these things are so damn slow that once I commit to a fight I'm too slow to bug out, and someone always manages to come along at the worst possible moment lol.

That’s awesome, but you have to get at least 10 kills in the other 5 planes to qualify.

It IS an awesome plane, IMO far superior to the Spit MkI. However, I have either have some really bad luck choosing my engagements in the Hurricane, or I had really good luck choosing them in the Spitfire. I cant seem to get ahead in the Hurricane. I'm doing even worse in the zero, and worse yet in the 202. I think I'm like 1/10 in the 202. Not that it isnt capable, it is. I just cant seem to keep anything in front of me long enough to kill it with those guns. I've seen planes in front of me so lit up with hit sprites I couldnt see the skin anymore, and they just fly away. No smoke, no parts flying off, nothing. I had to almost empty the guns the other night for my only kill. I managed finally to take the stabilizers off a pony and watched him helicopter into the ground. Ah well. Wouldnt be a contest if it wasnt difficult somewhere. :)

Whats your convergence Star? (I have 250 and do pretty well with it)
Shoot at conv distance and concentrate the bullets in one place. Aim for wings on Spit, Yak and LA, a6m/nik/ki/moss go for fuselage, they catch fire easily. Or take cockpit shots when you can.
Go vertical a lot, dont chase anyonf (=futile lol). Swich targets in furball. Try flying somewhere wheres not too green on map.

I’ve found that the rifle caliber guns are worthless beyond 200 yards. At 100 yards though, I’ve managed several kills with about a one second burst. I think my rifle caliber guns on these early birds are set to 150 yards.

I set all my convergence at 200. I found I would sometimes shoot at 400, if the target was stable enough, but for twisty turny fights I wasnt hitting much that was further away than 200 anyway. The only time I'd really want to shoot longer distances is when I'm buff hunting, and I usually take a FW or a Tiffie for that, so I leave the convergence on them out to 600.

Heh a week ago I landed a 5-kill sortie on P40B. Last kill was manouver killing RuAml in his LA7 while limping home without a flap and a gun. P40B goes totally out of balance when a flap gets blown off, needs a lot of stick compensation to fly straight after that.
Dunno how I landed that one but it sure was challenging and fun.

That’s really a very respectable K/D and score when you keep in mind how crappy these planes are. Their area wide K/Ds are typically in the 0.2 to less than 0.5 . You may end up with the lowest score in this contest, but the majority of AHers could not do nearly as well.

Total - 58/79 but didnt make the minimum in 4 of the 6 categories. Oversight on my part, I thought I had enough kills in the Spitfire and P40, and I didnt add right in the Hurricane.
The C.202 was just abysmal. If assists counted, I'd be looking much better. I had 6 assists in the C.202, most of which I chewed the heck out of my opponents who then flew away with maybe an oil leak or something minor and someone else killed them. 3 of the 6 kills I did get were proxies though, so I guess it partially balances out. It was just very frustrating to watch all those lovely hit sprites and not see any damage occur except an occaisonal flap or oil hit or fuel hit. I'd try to concentrate fire on one wing, then move to the cockpit/engine area, then the other wing, hoping to do some lasting damage. On the other hand, the plane is a joy to fly, and I was able to hang with just about anyone in anything unless they started with a big advantage in E states. It climbs like a scalded monkey, turns as well as a 109, and accelerates fast enough to keep up with far faster planes in a dive.
The 4x.303s on the SpitV and even the 2x.50s on the SpitIX do way more damage with far less trouble. No wonder the 202 has so few fans. They all committed suicide after flying it.

Stupid me didnt do any kills in the other planes - stayed in Hurri the whole tour. Loved it too much to swich ;). So i guess this is out of contest:

I found out the Hurri Mk1 isnt all that 'worthless' after all. Even got a F4U1C once. He wasnt all too happy about getting killed by a Hurri, Mk1 none the less.
My overall experience this tour was a very positive one. Found many great fights ( to all that had to surrender to my 303 peppering and to those that kept hunting me down), wich i enjoyed immensly. This made up for the everyday frustration of having a6ms and Lancasters outrun you (not to speak of La7) and getting assist after assist cause a well meaning friendly helped you with the spit you have been fighting with for five minutes.
Thank you Eskimo, for bringing those 'underdogs' in the limelight for at least one tour. Lets hope well see at least a few of them regularly in MA.

This contest nearly became drudgery after awhile. I was very surprised that my worst plane was one that I expected to do my best in; the 109E. I account much of my difficulty to bad luck and bad timing. Several sorties were spent trying to defend a base against several fighters, bombers and GVs while outnumbered greatly; I guess I just had too high an expectation in it because it feels an awful lot like the 109F. I found myself in a bad situation nearly every time I went up in that thing. I did manage to destroy a flight of 3 Lancasters in the air though; I think I made every 20mm count on that sortie.
The 202 is the assist master. The only way I can get kills in it is at 100 yards in a deflection shot. The Spit 1 and Hurri 1 are about the same, you’ve got to get close or the bullets only warn and annoy. The 202 does fly better than the other 5 though. If the 202 had a single 20mm Hispano with 120 rounds instead of those Italian BB guns, it would be one of the best planes in the game.

LOL! That has got to be an MA Hurri-1 record! In tour 63 it had 255 kills and 896 deaths. You got nearly half as many kills in it by yourself with a decent K/D. WTG! This tour it earned 487 kills at the cost of 1069 deaths. That had to have been somewhat boosted by this contest, especially your contribution.

Just for a little comparison.....
Normally I would only fly the A6M in a base defense scenario. I love the way it handles, but it's really not an MA plane. It's too fragile, and way too slow. Flying it on some of the maps we've had this past month, you really have to go some distance to hunt for kills. NOT a role this plane is suited to in the MA. It has great range, but at those speeds if the enemy is more than half a sector away, I might as well go make coffee. Heck, I can even grind the beans for the coffee, and still be back before I get anywhere near a red plane.
The 109E is a great ride. The problem is, just like when I fly the F-4, people see "109" and gang you. I guess they automatically assume its a G10 or something, and must be a threat. In a 1 vs 1 co-alt, I'd take on just about anything in the arena in a 109E. I actually find the wing mounted 20mm's easier to shoot at a convergence point, whereas the nose mounted guns on the others make hitting the target problematic without lots of experience. Climb and acceleration are similar to the 109F, turn performance actually seems a bit better.
The C.202 I normally wouldnt fly, except in scenarios or snapshots. Against period planes it's a champion. In the MA it's dogmeat. It's easily as fast and nimble as any of the 109s, and actually seems a bit easier to handle. The guns just purely stink. I can get more kills with the BBs in a Val than I can with whatever they loaded the C.202 with.
The Hurri MkI has been a favorite of mine ever since the Rangoon scenario. In AW I always favored the Hurri MkIIb (I thank Manx for that, he turned me on to the Hurricane way back when), and if it weren't for the engine cut out on the MkI I'd fly it more often. It's more nimble than the MkIIc we have, and the 8x.303s will shred planes if you get them into convergence range. If HTC models a MkIIb when they redo the Hurricanes, I'm there. :)
The P-40B is an incredible little plane. If it had WEP I'd fly it all the time. Only its slow acceleration and climb keep it from being one of my top 5 rides. I'll keep hoping when HTC remodels the P-40, we get a P-40N as well. Some of the best fights I've had in the MA have been in a P-40. And I know there are guys out there that can make it perform far better than I. I've seen Shane do things with a P-40 that defy logic.
Funny enough, my best K/D ratio was in the Spit MkI. It was my least favorite plane to fly in this group. It rolls like a pig in thick mud. It looks and feels like it weighs way more than the others, and yet it performs. Rolling the Spit I is more like a total body workout. It requires a great deal of coordination between rudders and ailerons and elevators to make that pig perform well, but I've used it with great success against all the other model spits. The key with it is looooooooooong climb outs and having plenty of alt when you engage. As long as I can work around onto another spits 6, I can stick and get the kill. It amazed me every time, but they couldnt out turn me, couldnt out dive me.......and they certainly couldnt force an overshoot. Maybe its just that all the newbs fly Spit V's and Spit IX's, and I ran into them. This thing bleeds E like crazy with just a little encouragement. Either I am very lucky every time I get in it, or this thing just plain fools you into thinking it's worse than it really is.

The 202 does suck, but IMO it's better than the Spit-I, Hurri-I, P-40B, A6M-2 & 109E-4.

You need time to get used to Hurri Mk1. If you found a way to work around the drawbacks, its a real killer. turns out pretty much everything. Just dont go for GVs, bombers and town buildings ;). PERK IT!

SA2 you mention the Hurr IIb.
It was a stop-gap between the IIa and the IIc. 8x303cal weren't doing it so they put 2 more in the outboard portion of each wing (total 12x303cal), but it STILL wasn't doing the job, so they delegated the non-fighter jobs to these planes, including adding bomb racks on them and calling them "Hurri-bombers". Putting on the bomb racks, if I read this correctly, meant that 2 guns could not be used.
While it would increase the firepower by 50%, it would disperse the weapons out like the spit1's wings, making convergence a larger problem, and due to the increased weight and the distance it is out on the wings, plus all of the ammo, and the changes to the wing to get the guns and ammo in there at all, I think it would be far heavier than a Hurr with 4x303 and it would be more fragile (weaker wings, more stress loading) and it would only fly as well as a HurrIIc, engine wise, and with those guns you might as well just go with the HurrIIc, as it will perform better and shoot harder.
But it's nice to see that somebody else knows about the Hurr2b (I didn't know it was in AW).
