Title: Word Perfect Sucks
Post by: jEEZY on July 03, 2005, 04:02:29 PM
Simply put, I hate this word processor. The Feds have mandated its use in govt becuase of thier anti-MS policy. Funny, they cringe when I reccomend a change to firefox. Maybe the policy is to change only to crappy programs.

Anyone have an opinion re WP?

Havent used it for years. When i did, i belive it pretty much was the only serious option (early 90's)

How could they have made it worse when they have had so many years to perfect it?

One small example: If I type" UNited States " it asks if I want to change "UNited" into UNITED as opposed to United. MSWord would auto change it to the latter.

Word would suggest, "uninvited", then change the font on all pages when you selected it.

Who on earth would want a computer program to guess and correct what you type? The whole function is both annoying and futile.

When I started my working career after leaving university in the mid 1990s, I was assistant to a guy with the surname "Godsall". MS Word 2.0 used to autocorrect his name to "Godzilla". That one raised more than a few laughs.

Feds? Hmmm... I'm DoD and we don't have that restriction. We all use Office 2000.

Re: WP... a word processor is a word processor is a word processor. AFAICT, there hasn't been a significan advance to WP software since the spell checker.

Of course, if you're dead set against M$, there's another option (http://www.openoffice.org/) which has two things going for it... it's free, and it's free.

Maybe its just the judiciary that made this decision. Although I think the US Attys are WP as well.
