AKAK,

At least you let me shoot you down once, and I know you did.

BTW, I will fly nothing else but a P38

Look me up in the arena, I'll fly with you and teach you what little I know about the P38.

Actually DVDT, you got that kill fair and square.  It was a classic text book bounce on an unsuspecting target.  I had no idea that you were there until you were 200 yards off my six and firing. .

The P-38 is a great plane to fly but be prepared for a lot of frustration at first as you get to know the ins and outs of the plane.  It's a jack of all trades, it's a great ground attack plane and a great fighter.  While it's not a master in one particular area, it's good in all of them.  You can Energy fight if needed or if things get down and dirty, Angles fight.  Remember the old saying about the P-38, it can out turn what it can't out run and out run what it can't out turn.

That web site address I gave you last night, Netaces.org (http://www.netaces.org), has a wealth of information to help get you started.  You've got the fundementals down now you need to work on how to shoot down the other guy.   I recommend reading Rocketman's lectures on the Merge as well as Bullethead's lectures on Energy Management as a starting point.  Those will give you the basic fundementals on which to build upon.

This is another site you should check out.  It will give examples of some of the basic ACM (Air Combat Maneuvers) you'll use and see others use.  It also features some lectures and tips from an old Warbirds player named Fletchman.  His lectures on Energy Management and Gunnery are excellent and worthwhile reading.

Basic ACM Maneuvers (http://djalik.tripod.com/basicair.htm)

And this is an old Air Warrior squadron's website, The Musketeers.  While the training section was geared to those that used to fly Air Warrior, the information and tactics can be easily used in any online flight sim.  And this site has some really cool MIDI songs from the '80s :P

The Muskies' Training Site (http://www.musketeers.org/Training.htm)

Rudders are very important to use in the P-38.  The Lightning has nice two large rudders which give the plane excellent rudder authority.  The rudders are vital for the P-38, always use coordinated turns in the P-38.  The rudders can also be used to help maintain your speed in dives.  By slipping some rudder, you create drag and in a dive you can use these as sort of an "air brake" so help maintain a steady dive speed.  Here's 2 lectures from Worr (another Warbirds veteran) on the use of rudders.

Rudders, lecture #1 (http://www.furball.warbirdsiii.com/krod/worr-rudders.html#lecture1)

Rudders, lecture #2 (http://www.furball.warbirdsiii.com/krod/worr-rudders.html#lecture2)

This is another site with a wealth of training and tactics info.  Again, it was written back in the day for both Air Warrior and Warbirds but as with the previous stuff, these tactics and tips can also be readily used in Aces High.

The Flying Skunks Tactics Page (http://members.aol.com/karbarra/tactics/tactics-index.html)

And last but not least, here's the link to the 479th FG Film Library.  Most of our films are of P-38s and Murdr has posted the excellent PJ University lectures that I highly recommend for all P-38 drivers, vets and greenhorns alike.  I also recommend that you download my stick scale that is also in the download section.

479th FG Film Library and Downloads (http://479th.jasminemarie.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=1)

Anytime you want any tips or help, just holler if you see me online.  And if you ever see guys like Murdr, pellik or Crims (my squadmates) give them a holler too.  I'm sure they wouldn't helping out a fellow 38 driver.

Hope this helps you some.

Thanks for the help. I've flown in this game on and off for several years, but never have been able to become what I would call a good pilot.  Actually I flew in AirWarrior before its demise. But now that my so called fiance took a dump on me, I'm going to be spending a lot more time in Aces High.  Again, thanks for the input and help.

Thanks to all again for the advice.  I need to contact HiTech because for some reason I can't use the radio to contact all.  Even though I signed up under a different handle, I still can't use the radio to its fullest extent.   I think a whiskey inspired smart bellybutton comment about a year ago got me in trouble - lol.  Anyway, thanks again for the support.

PS - Anybody know what my nick means?  Clue:  It's a mathematical term.  I actually saw it on the license plate of a Corvette once, and thought it was pretty clever.

Mathmatical term? No. Not a clue.

But if your talking about a flying term, better yet, a flying term about my flying.......It would be an abreviation of Divot. Because I make pretty Divots.

You do know that the "all" channel is now 200 instead of 1 right?

Did you know that JOC has a 1st edition, autographed copy of that book?  He swears by it and hearing him talk about it, you'd think he was talking about the Bible.
