Title: PHP website questions
Post by: Waffle on July 04, 2005, 10:24:56 PM
Been thinking about redoing a website and have been eyeballing the PHP based websites. Is there any type of WYSIWYG interface for designing those, or is it all code/script?

How do they work basically? Was reading some stuff about needing a database software like mysql, ect?

anyhoo....just need a short synopsis of what I might be getting myself into...lol

Since you know so little at this point, I would suggest you download the CMS (Content Management System) I'll link to below and look around to see how PHP works. PHP is basically all the stuff between the html. MySQL is the database that you can draw from to fill changeable parameters within the html using PHP.

You host should have MySQL installed on the server.

This Free CMS can be customized and may just suit what you're looking for, and it is a good learning tool. You can install it quickly and see how it works.:

I recommend staying far away from Nuke or Post-Nuke for now.

I'm in no way an expert in PHP, but I've played around with a few content management systems. So far, Mambo (http://www.mamboserver.com/) looks about the best to me.

You might want to look at these as well:
PHPNuke (http://phpnuke.org/)
Drupal (http://www.drupal.org/)
Xoops (http://www.xoops.org/)

All are free.
