Title: PolyIDs - is water still 20006?
Post by: Waffle on July 05, 2005, 10:57:10 AM
Having problems with some water objects that aren't showing "water" splashes from gunfire. Come to think of it, I believe some of the surfaces I ID'd as dirt, are showing hits w/o out the "dirt spray"

Any ideas?

Actually I should probably be a little more clear in what I'm doing thats causing this.

Basically have a 5280x5280 mesh that rises to a 30 ft plateau. On this rasied area are small dug out canals with a "water" plane interseting them. All's building correctly and looks fine in game,  but when the water object takes gunfire / or an aircraft sliding along it, it acts like an object.

I am also building this as a terrain tile "ter0006.shp". if built any other way, the default  trees and hills pop through it.

I also tried with a flat plane built over flat terrain. The same thing- even with the polyID flag set to 20006

Just exported "Hill0" in AC3d, renamed it to "hiltst" ran it through the object editor and all that stuff - got it in game - shows hit sprites instead of dirt kicking up.

Did you use "clutter" class? If it is "structure" you will get hit sprites instead.

If built - theres not an option for clutter - only "VOD" to define it in the 3dmodel. I think I tried setting it to "clutter" in the OE, but no difference

Went back and messed with it some more in several variations - still a no go.

Anyone able to add water properties to a flat plane?

I did alot of experimenting with it and what I discovered is there is a bug in the conversion tool. I exported an existing hill, copied it, converted it then exported it again and the poly ID line was lost. Also the data=xx value for that poly was changed.

Aye - looks like were in for more rounds of playing "is it the model, the model-maker, or the software?" :)
