Title: Twin dragon skin
Post by: Hoarach on July 07, 2005, 01:50:22 PM
Found interest in the 38J twin dragon skin and is the only 38J skin I use now.  Found some information on the skin if anyone is interested on plane piloted by Captain Walter F. Duke.

Interesting the plane in the photo in the article is of the "Putt Putt Maroo", housed in Galveston, with "Col. C.H. MacDonald" painted beneath the forward part of the canopy.

Yea that caught my eye too, wasnt sure why those were posted especially the putt putt maroo kind of confused me but what I was paying more attention to was the article itself.

Putt Putt Maru is probably the best known of the surviving airworthy P-38's painted in a Pacific theme. Porky II hasn't been around nearly as long, only a couple of years. And even Porky II would be the wrong scheme.

Col. Charles H "Mac" MacDonald was Maj. Thomas B. McGuire's CO, and also an ace with 27 confirmed victories. "Mac" died a couple of years or so ago.

I don't think there is a P-38 around with the paint scheme that would be correct for the subject of the article, or even for the squad. I think they just used the best available pic of a Pacific P-38.

I was able to find pictures of the 459th fighter squadron but werent of Captain Walter F. Duke's Miss V.  By searching on different websites for pictures or information on the 459th fighter squadron, it seems that all of teh 459th fighter squadron planes had the twin dragons scheme.

It should be in the hangar. If it isn't, you'll have to figure out how to get the skins to redownload. Best to ask Skuzzy.

Nice looking skin.

And I find the red and black combo on the engines make for easier targeting which makes em functional too!
