Holy cow, this is good! This I got from another BBS. It works awesome!
Edit: I think it's only for those with broadband.
**************************
If any of you guys are using Firefox, here's a great tweak that you can use to REALLY speed up your webpage load times.
As posted by a squadmate:
Any Mozilla and Firefox users? Broadband Only
1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxre quests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxre quests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

any reason why the guys at mozilla has not set these settings by default?
there has to be a reason for that
-
Nice firefox tweak. Seems to work well set for 4.
-
not working for me.
about :config gives an URL error, and about: config does nothing.
edit- about: config is what the second italics should say.

no spaces

Thank you.

Thanks Martlet.
Unfortunetly, I can't edit my post.
BTW, a big thank you to you for mentioning Firefox. I haven't touched IE (MS's version) since then.
-
Me either. I've been using it since early beta. I love the new update function that even searches for updates for all your plugins.
-
Firefox fan myself. I have really tried to like Opera since its norwegian and all but its just too bloated.
-
Opera is still a decent alternative to IE, but in my opinion isn't as good as FF.

Just export your bookmarks. I always keep a back-up copy of mine in case one of the little tested builds I like to install deletes it.

I saw this tweak a few months ago and made the change. FWIW, I don't see much of a difference.
I have noticed that FireFox takes forever to load. Is there a config for that?
-
Does this work for DSL users aswell?
:(

To load pages, or to load the program when you open it? For loading pages, somebody posted another tweak a few months back that made a huge difference. Unfortunately I'm not finding it in a search right now.
ed: going off memory, I think it involved setting the network.dns.disableIPv6 to true.
-
pages are fine... it's loading the program itself that is slow.
-
You can also disable ( set True instead of false) DNS IPv6 queries. It will speed up your DNS requests.
network.dns.disableIPv6

This must be the third or fourth time this tweak has been posted. Mods delete it for double topics.. :p
