The game isn't even out a month, not one bug squashed and the expansion is near completion already. All the EA bashing money hungry threads kinda seem true now.

Do not forget that they released the 1.01 patch, which introduced more bugs, and then pulled it from their site after atleast half the people that bought the game installed it.
They are working "hard" on fixing the bug... 6 days later and nothing, BUT they managed to find time to begin creating an expansion for the game.

exactly.... waiting patiently.
" So the new bread and butter features for the expansion pack are six new armies, ten new vehicles, and twelve new base weapons."
-
This is my favorite sentence in the whole article:
"It is still Conquest as a game mode, however the maps are focused much more around infantry combat. "
My favorite maps are the ones with very little air or armor. Street fighting with infantry gives me the greatest thrill. Looking forward to some player-made maps that focus on infantry only combat.
HUGELY addicted to this game.
-
Yup, when the patch was running there were a couple servers that ran the city maps 24/7. No Jet robotic flag bomb whoring. There was also another that ran the city maps every 2nd map in rotation.
I'm personally hoping someone will port over the Lost Village map from the DC mod.
-
I cant stand BF2, Id rather play BF1942 with the DC Final mod. The flight model for the game is totaly snafu.
-
The airplane model is BF has always been wonky, haven't gotten BF2 yet. I really want to know, from someone who has played, how DC-Final helicopters compare to BF2 helos.
-
BF2 Helios are bricks compared to DC. Read the forums, all the DC kids are upset they don't fly as nimble.
-
bf2 chopppers are plenty nimble if you know how to fly em. I prefer the flight in bf2 over dc, for choppers anyway. Havent flown a jet yet.
-
ditto on the city fighting - what a blast. I do like the choppers though. I just got the controls mapped to my ms sidewinder. The graphics look pretty nice. The jets are a bit sucky.
-
The jets are really weird.
I think the helos feel alot closer to "real" than the jets.
Also the jets are slowed down about 1/2. When your ASI says 600 km/h every one else sees you going ~300 km/h. One night Octavius kept chasing my MiG-29 down with his Cobra...
-
I was merely turning a tighter circle and my gunner was a fairly good shot. You were slowing for a rearm and flying a lazy circle. If it were a straightaway, I was toast.
-
Yeah but when I was "slowing down" I was still going 600 km/h. That's more than twice the top speed of any helicopter. The airplane ASI is way off.
-
If it went the correct speed, you'd never be able to stay in the map, much less shoot stuff.
-
I bought the game and only played a few times. JO and JO: Escalation are/were better. Even Op Flashpoint was 'funner'.
Out of 10 I give a 4. I hated BF42 and the Vietnam crap...dunno why I bought this one...
EA sux...
-
NEVAR compare Operation Flashpoint with these arcades :)
-
After playing BF2, (which I enjoy a lot) I cant wait to see what BIS have done with OpFlash's sequel.
Even if they have left the entire game as it was, and only updated the graphics to somewhere around the standard of BF2, it'll be a treat.
-
funked/oct - what servers you play on?
-
heh, he said "funner" as in "more entertaining in a cheesy game way".
And OFP has its limitatoins, mind you.

It does?
When's OFP2 out anyway?

-
It is called as "Game 2", at least thats what a magazine says..
Although I guess it is still subjected to change..
Wont be OFP2 thanks to the publisher, Codemasters.
It won't be released until next year.
-
lol, this thread would have been deleted at ww2online
-
Any FPS that doesn't include 'lean' functions and a 'last weapon' key is half arsed...
OFP was a great game for its time. When I said 'funner' I meant exclusively online. Even with OFP's fugged up net code you could still have a real good time.
BF2 is missing something, I dunno what but I haven't found the game itself 'fun'.
I have fun with friends online while playing BF2 etc... but that can happen in any game.
-
Right. VBS1's latest build includes leaning animations, so hopefully Armed Assault (not quite OFP 2) will have that as well.
OFP's big liabilities were its netcode, mission-based-model (no JIP), and unattractive graphics. No guarantees on whether they'll fix any of these, but some folks swear to me they will.

Counter-Strike: Source pwns j00 n00bs!
Never been the biggest fan of BF, too arcade-ish.
Really can't wait for Day of Defeat: Source. That one is going to be insane.

Well... how wrong am I? I think CS figured it out by never putting in vehicles. I mean, seriously, taking out a Tiger by throwing grenades at it's front armor? Flying a helicopter out of sight and parachuting across the map? Sneaky pete's hiding in sidecars so you don't have to stop to pull the flag? 8 guys riding outside of a bomber on the wings and doing halo drops?
I will admit the suicide bomb cars were kinda fun though to ram tanks with.

There's a mod for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory called: True Combat: Elite (http://www.truecombat.com/intro.php)
It's CS style with terrorists verses CTs.
Its still in Beta but its a lot of fun.
Iron sites (no gunsites other then Iron), lean functions etc...
Small maps, instant action and no vehicles.
I play it more then anything else.
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is a free download, so is TC: Elite.
Just make sure you have the lastest version of both. There aren't a lot of servers but if you use ASE you can add TC: Elite to the games list by coping and pasting this into your filters.txt file:
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory\True Combat Elite
Icon: $BASE\tcetest\elitelogoicon.ico
Mutex: WOLFETGAME
IRC: irc.enterthegame.com/truecombat
1 if game ~!= "tcetest" remove
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory\True Combat Elite\Body Count
Mutex: WOLFETGAMETCE
1 if g_gametype != "7" remove
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory\True Combat Elite\Objective
Mutex: WOLFETGAMETCE
1 if g_gametype != "5" remove
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory\True Combat Elite\Reinforced Objective
Mutex: WOLFETGAMETCE
1 if g_gametype != "2" remove
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory\True Combat Elite\v0.48
Group: WOLFETTCEVER
Mutex: WOLFETTCEVER
1 if tce_version != "Beta 0.4 Build 8 PUB 22-02-2005" remove
Paste it right after fter the ET Last Man Standing entry in your ASE filters.txt
When you run ASE TC:Elite will be found within Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
-
I used to play TC before it essentially died out and finding a well populated server became next to impossible.
Has it gained in popularity? I absolutely loved the damage modeling and bullet physics. Simply awesome being able to waste someone because they though a wooden crate would protect them :)
My housemate is an ET mapper and programmer, we had fun turning on bullet trails and watching how the bullets react to different materials.

I play on the TC:Force server, there's 39 folks in there right now.
Its DE server but my pings are fine, almost no lag...
Most of the servers are EU but there isn't a whole lot of them...

Don't forget about the buildings. Trying to move or fight in and around buildings was a joke.
-
Oh yeah, building clipping code.... They swear to have fixed that one too. Hell, in VBS, they even got shooting from moving vehicles (necessary for convoy training missions). You can run around the cargo bay of a C130 in mid-flight if you're so inclined.
Yeah, and they need to fix grenades.
-
I think Joint Ops showed EA that you can basically screw over the buyer and it really wont hurt sales. Escalation sucked IMO and I didnt even buy it till about 2 months ago. 3 Weeks in and they announce an "expansion" while the main game is still pretty screwy. The patch seems to have helped. The new one is out!
-
bah .. the August patch has been pushed back... DICE/EA are a class act.

Ermmm compare OFPs netcode too BF2s netcode... its bandwidth hungry, OFP was aiming for LANs not net.
As for the graphics, hmmm well I remember one patrol, at the edge of a forest, during sunset, a thick fog had rolled in, I heard voices and took cover. A Soviet patrol emerged out of the fog, silhouttes only, walked past me about 10m away, never saw their detail only their silhouttes. I've never had that sort of feeling to a scene in a FPS ever. I still remember hiding the spotlights of searching APCs and Helo's at night.
One of my favourite missions ever was in a Cobra clearing an LZ in a large valley for 3 blackhawks. I got taken out, crashed, my gunner was killed. Of course I was unarmed, hiding behind my cobras wreck as enemy troops advanced from one side of the valley. I directed my wingman who was still flying onto the enemy positions which were much easier to identify from the ground. He pushed the enemy troops back, I called the blackhawks in, they came down, cleaned up, and I caught a ride back to base in one. Now thats entertainment (cobra crash was unscripted btw, it was pure luck I survived the crash).
OFP was wayyyyyyyyyyy ahead of its time.

Yep and they said the "Expansion" developement team wouldnt slow down the work on the patches because they were a seperate team. What a load. At least the editing tools came out. Map making is something else. If any of you need tutorials here are some real simple video's that helped me get started.
Not sure about the site but no problems here and the vids were really useful.

Today would be a fine thing and I promise I'm not a stalker or just strange like SOB:)

I played BF1942. It seemed the enemy could return too quick. You kill them, they kill you and so on. It would be like if in AH, the planes auto spawn mid air right next to the battle.
