Title: So I got a new Jeep!!
Post by: GtoRA2 on July 17, 2005, 07:27:39 PM
So I bought a new jeep!

I had a 4 banger 2000 wrangler at one time, and it was good off road, but would have cost way to much to upgrade, and it was scary on the free way, lol to light and on a windy day you could not go above 55 and be safe.

The Rubicon is heavier, comes with jeeps inline six. It has all kinds of off road items as standard.

Starting with Dana 44 front and rear axles (dana 35c's are standard on the other jeep wranglers) These axles are WAY stronger then the 35s.
31 inch tires, (all other jeeps come with 30s or 27s)
4 wheel disk brakes. (all others front disk rear drum)
a 4 to 1 transfer case, so it can crawl better, (put it in 4 low, and first gear and it will climb a 45 degree hill at idle. )
special skid plates.
16 inch aluminum wheels
Lockers built into both the fron and rear axles ( these lock the wheel together so both spin at the same rate. )
limited slip on the back axle when the locker is not on.
6 speed manual standard.
AC standard
I wanted the soft top and steel half doors
Has a CD player standard witha 7 speacker sound system.
all for 27,400 base, but I pay 25,600 for mine, just about invoice.

Here are some pics, I already took it out in the dirt. It rocks!

I washed some dirt off cause I dont want the top stained before they put the stain gaurd on it.

really nice.  You're preobably going to regret going with the half doors in he future....or not.  I know I do but that's that.  Rubicons rock, I've wanted to upgrade to one for the longets time.  Mines a 93 wrangler yj with the I6 4.0.

Welcome to the world of Jeeps.  I have a standard 4 cyl. 97 wrangler.

Btw, we wave at each other as we pass on the road.  No other car is cool enough for this.

Also, how big of a gas tank does that thing have?

I ask because the last time I drove a 6 cylinder Wrangler, it only had a 12 gallon tank.  It could pass everything but a gas station.

After spending $26,000 on a Jeep, the price of gas is trivial. ;)

The full hard doors are standard now. I specified I wanted the half doors.

When I test drove one with full doors when they came out, they stuck so far into the interior they made me sit with my leg at a weird angle and it made my knee ache.

I am going to get a set of the soft door tops with the sliding glass.

Having had a jeep before I know about guys waving. Jeep people do more often then not.

oh 19 gallon tank.

Only things I plan on doing to it are:

Winch maybe.

2 inch rubicon express lift, (does not void the warranty and should  not effect the ride or handling much, but get me a few more inches to clear the gas tank. )

Front and rear bumpers that are shorter and a bit stronger.

I do plan to wheel it alot.

Oh maybe have Line X sprayed into the body tub.

Oh and a roll bar extension to make it a full cage.

ya can only go up from there,

some mickey thompson's- 33 inch tires

7 inch suspension lift always fun.

and and if your a serious jeep offroader, ya have to have a winch,
save my *** many times.

and if ya don't already know, dont offroad with the doors on.
been to Jeep jamobrees where people have rolled on there side and got arm stuck under the door.

My first cj7 saved my life in a headon.

Very important...wave at the other jeepers...and when you see one stuck, you must help.  Because they will do the same for you.

I have a 85 CJ7 with a 6 cylinder and automatic...uck.  It gets about 12 mpg and has a 12 gallon tank.  I can get about 12.5 gallons in it.  With the 2 inch body lift and extra springs, I put 12.5 x 15's on 10 inch rims.  It pulls pretty good, but it's a true bear to take on the highway.

My friends use to call it a chick magnet...all the girls always want to go for a ride...my wife calls it that blanking jeep.  She hates the poor jeep, maybe thats why I still have it.

The fancy new ones have ac and heat...mine has no ac, and I don't think the heat has worked for years, unless i'm offroad and its 100 degrees.

Most important...Enjoy your Jeep!!

CJ's rock....

I really miss my 93 ZJ, I had the quadratrac  2"lift with the I-6.  I loved its simple I-6 the best motor in any jeep around IMO.

And to think of jeep now with the sacrilege of that new V-6 :(

ahh that actually makes sense.

Watch out for the hard doors with the upper sliders.  I have aftermarket ones that came with my jeep and I hate them.  Because of their wieght they keep breaking the plastic inserts that they screw into.  On the highway all they do is wabble.  Some of the aftermarket hard top accessories out there is real junk so just be carefull and for gods sake don't get rid of your orriginal stuff......unless you have full hard doors for a YJ in decent condition that you'd like to give to me.  ;)

I've had this jeep since 2000, My previous one was a beast.  I had an 80 CJ5 with a V8 340 in it.  The thing had a 4 in lift and 33 in mud swamper tires.  The exaust was defening with the headman headers and "non-baffle" header mufflers.

It was fun but rust was eating it away and the cancer was just too far along.

my 93 is my baby.  It's paid for and it has a newly remanufactured engine it it.  I planned along time ago to put a lift on it and new tires but I came down with a case of the marriage.  Then had a kid or two and those plans have been put on terminal hold.

The tranny leaks....the rear main leaks.....the brakes suck cause I can't get a lugg off the tire....but she's a jeep  :aok

Ouch.  I have a 12 gallon tank (can do 12.5 like you said), but I get about 20 miles to the gallon.  Sometimes a touch higher if I"m cruising on highways.

The only problem is that it doesn't like steep hills.  So naturally I go to college in the middle of a mountain range.

I don't want that thread to come here but no I tried alot of things.  I'm going to a tire shop tomorrow.  I only live 3 miles from work so I'm not to worried bout driving it.  If worse comes to worse I'll hoof it.

About the uppers I think they are steel horse brand.  The other problem I run into is that they and the hard top don't exactly mesh too well.  I've filed them down and made adjustments but it only helps a little.  Just be carefull with the aftermarket stuff.  It probably doesnt help that mine sits on the Garage floor 3-5 months out of the year and it's probably 10+ years old.  I plan on keeping my hard top but getting a soft top some time soon.

Personally, during this time a year I don't have doors at all on my jeep.  It's really nice to kick the foot up on the hinge and ride like that.  of course the last time it rained at all was in late april so I don't have to worrry bout that either.  :aok

Sorry natedog I disagree.

I remove my half doors in the summer just as I would if I had full doors.  The advantage comes in the winter time especially if you live any where it might get even slightly cold.

I used to commute from Sherman to Carrolton every day and It would have been such a better (quite) ride had I gotten full doors.

Even the full "soft" doors are nice in the winter.

Same thing goes with drain plugs.  I takem out in the summer but allways put them back in when it's time to "winterize"

EDIT:  anyone else have a problem with the plastic inserts for their uppers breaking when you get to highway speed?

I agree with everything you said, but full doors only go with hard tops.
we had an 81 CJ7...... summer... no doors
spring, fall, and long hiway travel....... half doors..
winter, hard top and full doors.

I miss my CJ.  My YJ is nice but I allways consider it too fragile (no that doesnt make it italian:p  )  I'd beat the Hell out of my CJ5 an it would just ask for more.  Nothing ever broke much.....cept when the cancer set in.  It was a Missouri jeep living out it's last final days in the deserts of Arizona.  The rust took hold of the frame and a few of the body mounts were the first to go.....Then the fenders.....

It was sad.  Like I said the YJ is fun and all but it breaks ALOT more.

Have a budy with a 67 CJ5, its in peaces in his garage, he ordered a brand new custome frame set up for a GM steering box, but you have to fab all the linkage, and he hasnt yet.

has a little buick V6 in it.

His current rig is a suzuki samuri lol.
