I have great respect for the abilities of the skinners HTC chose for the '47s, but I too think the lines are too prominent. By that time the wings were more science than art. They were machined and assembled very carefully (albeit rapidly) and you wouldn't notice the panel seams as badly.

Then again it's all subjective!

Thanks Selector, you're right. I found a bug in the skin where I'd doubled up the panel lines on the gun access hatches, making them look way too heavy. I've sent a corrected skin to HTC.

There are a few things not graphically correct. The splitter between the engine and oil cooler is flush on the AH2 jug, but should be recessed about 10 inches. Compared to actual P-47s, the engine is too far forward in the cowling, with the gear case being too short. For reasons likely related to polygon counts, the cowling ring's leading edge is sharp instead of having a defined radius. I also do not see the large cross-brace inside the canopy (behind the armor plate). See images below.

That said, they are still gorgeous!

oh my god, the planes are just coming out and you guys are already complaining!!!! No offence but by NO MEANS can anyone else do as good of a job in skinning as the few chosen by HTC!  Congrats the Waffle, Greebo, Nomde, and Octavius for a beautiful job on the new planes.  I know you guys worked very very hard on these planes and it really shows!!!!!! I love the new planes and would not change a thing!  :aok :aok :aok :aok

thebest1,

Now is the time to point out inaccuracies, not after it is released.

Also, it isn't complaining it is pointing out areas to improve fidelity.

I'm not offended by constructive criticism, that's largely what this forum is for. You can sit and stare at a skin for hours and not spot something that someone else spots instantly.

I don't know if the cowling can be changed. It doesn't seem too big a deal to me, but I can see your point. I'd hazard a guess the P-47s are already pushing the polygon budget. Nate's already shrunk items and moved things around for changes Nomde and I have requested.

Truer words were never spoken! I spent many an hour working on a 190a5 skin which has a red stripe acrhing on the side. I had all the photo references I needed (not of the real thing, but images that helped nonetheless). I spent tons of time making it perfect.... and then Selector takes one look and says "shouldn't it have a crook in the arch?" and by god its pretty prominent. I can't believe I missed it, but it happens!

THEBEST..by no means was my origonal post any sort of negative critisim,
i was just drawing attention to somthing that instantly stuck me.
alas it was an over looked issue, greebo now sees what he did and is going to fix it...
if this plane was release with problems it would have to be taken off to fix... measure twice , cut once as the saying gos...
