Hi Guys -
got a question regarding a program that is running in the background that my firewall (zonealarm pro) is constantly blocking to the internet.
the program is SVCHOST.exe and is listed under windows operating system.
Can anyone tell me what this is, why my firewall is blocking it? It was originally setup as allowed access until I looked at my program log and saw ZA was blocking automatically.
Is this something I should remove?
thanks for the help!!

Hm that was german on the microsoft page.
In short, svchost is part of the microsoft operating system. It is used to execute other programms that cant run for themselfs because they are dlls.
Among those are programs that are necessary for a working internet connection and others that arent.
There are also viruses that try to get executed from svchost.
So it might be ok that svchost tries to access the internet or it might be malicious, hard to tell.
And it might be that your antivirus detects the diffrent dll that are executed by svchost that do list the same in task manager but are totally diffrent in its function. So if the AV gives access to one svchost and blocks another one that might eaven make sense.
hope that helped.
