Since installing the new patch the game will not start.

Silat, I had same problem. It was a firewall issue, skuzzy said that with each new update the firewall must grant access to the ports needed(something like that), my problem was old firewall software that wasn't a problem yesterday but caused a timeout after todays patch.

Everytime a patch is released those firewalls all reset access for AH.  Go figure.  Just re-enable AH access through it.
