Title: Bushonics
Post by: Sandman_SBM on March 20, 2001, 02:38:00 PM
If this is meant as a joke, it's funny. If it's a serious, true story, it's downright scary.

Its not serious.  Its a joke mocking the way Gov. Bush speaks.

Eagler,
Most liberals hated the idiotic "ebonics" crap just as much as conservatives did.  I sure as hell didn't support it.  It was an embarassment foisted on us by the lunatic fringe.

Some people, even very smart ones, have a slight medical problem similar to the dyslexia, only in a very mild form. They make mistakes in their speech when they try to think and talk at the same time, especially in public and under stress.
It is not as obvious as the stuttering or other major problems, so most stupid people do not realise it.
When faced with a man in a responcible position and great career who occasionally mispronounces a word but writes perfectly well, they prefer to think that such person is an idiot - it makes them feel better.
The most obvious examples are Dan Quale and GWB but lots of others suffer from that. Many of them shy people who do not choose public positions - scientists, mathematicians, ets.

I am known to forget a word in the middle of a sentence myself, even though my IQ is 130.

The fact that american public is so ignorant and likes to make fun of people's medical problems (hardly could call such a trifle a disability) tells a lot about your average american.

no, you're Texan!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

That is a very interesting info you brought up. I AM dyslexic, my father is dyslexic as well.. and we both have a real hard time talking. I dont mean speech impediment or any of that, the words just don't flow in a conversation as easily as you would want to. Thus my dad and I are renowned as "silent types" when in groups.

VERY interesting indeed. Any links to medical stuff on it?

Sandman,

It's a "joke". At the top of the page of the article is the word - Satire -

Think of it like puns, a low form of humor.

You were probably confused because you didn't get it "off the shelves."

Satire is a low form of humour?

Clearly by your thinking, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Monty Python, Stephen Fry are all unfunny dim-wits. Satire is often at the heart of their comedy.

Dowding,

There is a difference between satire used as entertainment supplied by truly talented and witty people and that "product" supplied by hacks writing political commentaries masquerading as "news".

You are correct jochen. what do you expect from folks that listen to country music 24/7?

The Scots went crazy from their bagpipes, now history repeats itself..in Texas  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Actually, the real cause of the craziness is the accordian music on the Tejano radio stations.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Born and raised in Texas and have never, NEVER, listened to one country and western song.
I usually take a 12 gauge to radios that are tuned to em  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).

I do not understand how anyone could listen to it....most irritating music I have never heard  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).

Ha Maverick! Satire is funny providing it's not aimed at your political point of view?   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I don't know if Americans have anything like 'Private Eye'. It's a British satirical magazine, which is often quite serious about the stories it prints. It also uses satire to show the lunacy inherent in the media or politics. Does it very well, IMO, although they have been sued several times. Perhaps America is too litigious to allow such a publication to exist?

I guess it's a bit like Punch, but is actually funny.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
