Title: Offline bombing
Post by: Ohio43 on July 21, 2005, 09:55:49 AM
I wan to practice offline bombing on enemy targets.  Is there a way to disable enemy Ack so I can bomb without worrying about being shot down?

I dont think you can disable it completly, but you can change the lethality, meaning the damage it does if it hits. Dont know how its called, but you can find it in the arena settings list.

Better yet, go to arena settings and turn off "protect friendly objects" and then you can bomb/destroy your own fields.  No need to fly anywhere that way although it tends to be unpopular with your commanding officer.

mannedgunlethality

or groundlethality

forget what it is called, in arena settings, set it to .001 and you can take all the ack hits you want with no damage

You should be out of ack range.

Even when divebombing; you should; with practise; be able to release out of ack range with more than reasonable accuracy.

In fact; I'd suggest turning ack leath UP to enforce good practise.

In that case; the most time efficient manner to practise is; as has been suggested; turn "protect objects" off and take a heavy C-hog from a CV (you can set a wind to help take off); as you've got both cannon; rocket and bombs to practise and a ready supply of (slightly) moving targets.

As a rule of thumb; you should be able to rocket the destroyers from about 2-3 K distance (it's hard but do-able); and divebomb them and pull out from over 5K.

The time homoured way for a high release is to fly over the target at about 10K; roll over and look up (down:) ) through the canopy and as it passes under you; pull through to target.

I actually was more interested in heavy bombers (B-24's etc).  I am proficient in Attack-Mode airplanes already., but yes, I see that turning off that option would help.  Thx all!

Ya, I do this already from about 6k.  Seems any higher and I end up compressing in overspeed.  Even when I cut throttle before diving.  Havent tried 10k in an airplane that has dive-brakes, though.  I usually use the 110G for Jabo missions
