Title: Hey Octavius. Minor nitpick on Old Crow
Post by: Guppy35 on July 22, 2005, 01:17:33 AM
Something was bugging me about the wing invasion stripes.  After looking at photos of other 357th Mustangs, it seems clear that the wing stripes are off quite a bit.

Note in the photo below where the stripes end on the wing flaps and where the first black stripe is on the wheel cover.  The AH Old Crow stripes are too narrow it appears.

And just for fun, the real Old Crow had white sidewall tires too :)

Do you know if there was any thought given to having the wing leading edge landing light on the model for the B/C?

Edited to add an image of the AH Old Crow to show the comparison of where the stripes end on the flaps

this one is the d model. Old Crow flew in both B and D model.

This is the "Old Crow" in question.

Note the white sidewall tires both on the mains and tail wheel.  Also note where the D-Day stripes end on the flaps and how close they edge is to the star and bar on the upper wing.

But Guppy, in your first image there are no white walls. Tires can be changed out. I think that's a minor nit pick. The stripes, however, I'd have never noticed.

First picture wasn't Old Crow :)

I used it cause it showed the D-Day stripe placement.

Kidd Hofer of the 4th FG also went with the white sidewalls.

Thanks Guppy.  I'll see about changing the stripes and whitewalls.  To be honest, I probably should have used more pictures like those posted above.  I had a feeling the stripes were rather skinny even without photographs. ;)

As for the landing light:  No, never thought about it.  But thoughts are now flowing.
