Jeep in action!
So a buddy and I took the jeep out to a hillside in Hayward, one of the few places that’s not hours away that the cops don’t care if you mess around, and no one has really littered yet. Partly cause no car could get in the spot, but there is SOME litter and its only a mater of time before they fence it off if it gets worse.
I didn’t think to bring a bag to pack any out though.
It is mostly steep rutted hills to climb and go back down, and a bit of mud.
Here are the pics.

The real trail will be a week from Saturday.

AHHHHH
Looks like a blast. I just got mine dirty pulling out some old bushes in the yard. It's alot easier than digging them out plus I rarely get to use the 4WL setting ;)
Glad to know the rubicon is working out for ya. ANy Idea on future mods you might do? Intake? Exhause?
:aok
-
Going to leave the engine stock, they dont need an intake system from what I hear, just dont need to flow more air and dont want to lose any torque, and if exaust systems are like on cars you may gain some horse but lose torque.
I plan on a two inch lift, so I can clear 32s, right now 4 low first moves you along at less then a mile an hour so I figure I can go up a tire size or two.
I want to install a locker overide so I can use the lockers in 4hi. Its simple to do.
I want to add a back bumper with a tire carrier that can carry a jerry can, I would like to have some spare fuel on trails.
I already ordered more skid plates, a high lift jack and I am goign to get a good first aid kit.
The next major chunk of cash will either go for the back bumper or the a more sturdy roll bar.
I used the back locker in the pic with the tire in the air lol. still havnt used the front.

No after pics of the mud-encrusted rig? :(
-
I've been wanting to put a swing out tire carryer and jerry can holder on for the longest time. 4wd mag has one that also has a basket on top of the tire and holders for High lift jakc/shovel.
My beast is getting old. Just turned over 119k miles. The engine is totally remanufactured and runs real strong but the tranny still acts like crap. I recently did the brakes and discovered a few more problems while I was down there.
Even with the new motor I didn't put the Rear main seal on right. It leaks but not too badly. Jeeps in general are notorious for that.

GtO if you're any good with metalwork, I've seen some nifty carriers made at home. They weren't redneck-ified either.

Needs one of these. (http://www.gdatp.com/products/lethality/gau19/gau19a1.htm)

I'm not but a budy is a welder and made a nice rack for his truck.
He said he would do mine, but getting him to set the time aside may take months lol.

that would be the cats ass.
who wouldnt want a 50 cal gatling on their jeep?
Well maybe some homo brit types I gues....:D

GTO
There's one with the cans on the side and a basket on top that I like better. That one aint bad at all I just think the tire is a little too high.
I take my doors off quite often and don't have the mirrors relocated to the windshield yet (you might want to think about that) so that tire would definaly get in the way of my rear view.
Maybe the one I'm thinking of is for CJ/YJ. That one looks cool though but ask about the mirror thing if that's gonna be a problem for ya.
-
yeah I need to get mirror relocators.
I have seen the one your talking about, but its like 300 bucks more, this one can handle 1000lbs so I figure my budy could lower the tire, and ad a basket.
prolly still come out being a little less.

Would it be a good thing to have 1000 lbs hanging off the rear end of your Jeep?
CG would have to go way out of whack.
-
thats a good point toad, yeah that could be bad, but I think it would be hard to get that much weight back there.

No one usually loads that much weight but when it is needed it's there and isn't really effected while Highway driving.
More times than not being able to "cargo up" the rear is handy for going out to your offroad spot. Many guys even pack spare axles and such but dump most of that gear before they hit the trails at their "base camp"
I took my back seat out last year to haul some tools and such and havn't put it back since. I can fit 2 kegs/trash cans and 20 bags of ice back there now without flinching ;)
EDIT: Or a smoker and a cooler full of meat :aok

Anyone know why it's "A Jeep thing-You wouldn't understand"? Try flushing the radiator and take a good deep sniff of the coolant. Smells like someone took a dump in the radiator and left it for about a year. MMM MMM GOOD!
