So where has she been through all this anyway?
Imagine if she were president right now?
-
Don't frighten us with thoughts like that, we've been thru alot already...
-
Back to "politics as usual" and in only one week!
-
I saw her next to the mayor of New York, when he is speaking, at the opening of the stock exchange when others were being honored. I too wonder why the media isn't on her like maggots on a carcus devouring her every word!!
-
I saw a 30 second interview with her. The gist of it was "We stand united behind the President 100%".

I've seen her on many TV news shows in the last week. Honestly I have to say, even though I have never agreed with anything that she gas ever said, that she has impressed me in the last week. She has said NOTHING critical about Bush and said that she supports him 100% and agrees 100% with everything he has said and done since the tragedy. She also said that she admired the way Mrs. Bush is handling this too.
Of course my politics dictate that I still disagree with her on domestic issues, but I have been impressed with the way she has presented herself over the last week, Bill too.
We're all 1 people now and that's living proof of it to me.....

I haven't seen her once since this happened.
-
I've seen her several times with the Mayor/Gov., and on several programs making short statements to the effect of 'we're in this together'.
-
"Imagine if she were president right now?"
I'm sure the Conservatives would be backing her, with the same 100% support that she is giving Bush.
-
Liberal, Conservative... it doesnt matter. This nation has been attacked... and I think these indiv's understand that. I think a certain famous guy that reportly flew kites in electric storms said something to the effect that "Assurdly we must all hang togather or we WILL all HANG togather..."

Then again, Ol' Ben didn't kiss the wife of terrorists on international Televison either, did he?

Should I assume you guys are just shooting the toejam, trying to find levity in a time of crisis? Or, are you really trying to chip away at what unity this country has right now?
-
They are attempting to brand liberals as "Not really American and not standing with us." :(
Its nice to have ones countrymen spew hate at you in times of crisis. :(
I have seen an awful lot of anti-liberal spewing on the internet in the last few days. There are a huge number of assuptions that people make about liberals that are dead wrong or simply uninformed opinions.
For some reason the idea has gotten out that Liberals just want to roll over and play dead when confronted with adversity, just like those Liberals Abraham Lincoln and Franklin D. Roosevelt did. Oh, wait, they didn't.

What I see are a nation of patriots. It is just that some of the patriots, weren't, until last Tuesday.
To suck up to terrorists in an attempt to assure your "legacy", is not what I would consider to be patriotism. I am glad, however, that certain factions in our political system can restrain themselves when they must. The true test will be 6, 9 24 months down the road.
-
"hate" karnak?
I am glad we have the people we have in office. I think that if Gore, or for that matter, Hillary were president, you would see the same unity you see now. I am merely interested in hearing people's thoughts, and should have made things a bit more clear. I am interested in people's opinions of her as the commander-in-chief of the military. I am interested to know why, being the senator of New York, I haven't heard anything at all from her. As for "hate" and breaking up unity, I say hogwash. Open discussion does not equal hate, and if it does, then I wonder, are we back in the USSR?

I saw Hillary Clinton on television. I thought she did well and sounded every bit as credible as any other politician I've seen on television.
I think she knows what she's doing and New York didn't make a mistake electing her.

Post deleted. It was a misunderstanding.

Excuse me, if I implied that it was liberal/conservative; reading it, it does look that way.
There are factions on all sides, not liberal, democratic or libertarian.

Hope it stays that way.

Oh, in that case, I misunderstood and will delete my previous post. Thanks for elaborating.

Believe it or not I agree with you on the 1st paragraph. Since the crisis, she has spoken with unity and support of the President and with a professionalism I haven't seen b4. I've seen her on the tube quite a bit.
That said, I still can't agree with the second paragraph :)
I hope she proves me wrong in the long run.

Actually, Eagler, she is a damn good politician. I have no faith in her motives, but I do not doubt her skills.

"just like those Liberals Abraham Lincoln".....
What in Gods name are they teaching in those schools now days.
For what its worth, Lincoln was the first Republican President. Helped found the party in fact.

easymo, you need to read up on your USA history. Back during that time, the Republican ticket was the liberal ticket.
-
Leonid, read up on your syntax. At that time, the Republicans were the liberal party, but the tenents haven't changed.
-
Actually I think you would find those 1860 Republicans to be fiscally conservative while perhaps socially liberal.
Democrats at the time we backing what was in effect a huge farm surplus for the South, slavery (and don't even jump on me for this. I'm speaking in purely economical terms). Southern Democrats were out to protect their free labor force when it came to slavery (one of their issues).
The North, which was more industrial, didn't need slave labor. In fact an uneducated work force wouldn't do them any good in even those primative factories. Plus it provided unfair competition for Northern farmers.
Generalzations to be sure, but the gist is pretty correct.
-
Gadfly,
Actually the tenets have changed. Lincoln set up the federal government as the authority, now Republicans want to undo all of that.
I am well aware tha Lincoln was a Republican, he was also a Liberal by the standards of the day. Abraham Lincoln is my favorite President.
The problem with a few conservatives is that they think that if someone isn't saying "My country, right or wrong." they aren't patriotic and are prone to rolling over. That is just plain BS.
Without voices of warning and critisism, from many sides of the political spectrum, that point out problems in other's ideologies this nation would be far, far weaker.
Warning of danger that you see in your countries chosen path is patriotic. It might sound like they don't like their country, but what they are really saying is that they love their country and are worried about the direction it is taking. While some people accuse them of not being patriotic until Tuesday the 11th, the truth is that those who say that simply don't understand that kind of patriotism.
Over the last few days I have seen a lot of slander towards Liberals like myself. Sinister insinuations that we aren't really sorry that it happened and that we are just play acting the part of outrage and determination. I have even seen accusations that we Liberals are glad that it happened. I have not seen much of that on this BB and for that I salute the AH Conservatives. Elsewhere it has been quite insulting however.
<S> Conservative members of the AH community.
We Americans need to stand together now and not tear at eachother looking for a domestic place to lay the blame.
The Conservatives here are, by and large, doing just that.
Thanks from this Liberal member of the AH community.
-
<Salute> Karnak!, no offense intended. A strong Federal Government does not mean an all-encompassing one and that is our difference, just as it was for Lincoln.
-
Hillary Who?
-
The terrorists don't care if they kill liberals or conservatives. They want to and did kill Americans.... oh and Japanese, and Germans, and from 50 or so other countries doing business in America. There will be huge dissent; that doesn't mean it is unpatriotic. There was huge dissent in WWII, even right after Pearl Harbor. There was huge dissent in Korea, and Vietnam and the Gulf War, and Panama. A lack of the ability to dissent brings you Stalin. A lack of voiced dissent brings you Joseph McCarthy. There will always be dissent and that is what makes this country. I think it was Lincoln who was distrustful of unanimous votes in his cabinet and said something to the effect that a even a lone voice speaking dissent is vital to this republic.
Agree, Dissent. Whatever. But keep up the dialogue. That's the AMERICAN way.

Just for the heck of it. Look up how many pieces of civil rights legislation Nixon signed. Then compare that with How many Clinton signed into law.
-
I'm assuming that Clinton signed more... Although I voted for Clinton (twice), I think it would be hilarious if tricky-Dick signed more.
-
I am near positive that Nixon signed more, but then he was President at a time when there was more to be signed. That kind of invalidates the logic.
-
Folks:
I'm pretty durn left politically. I don't like Mayor Giuliani's policies; in fact I find him a bit of a fascist. But frankly, the guy's such a good general that in this emergency, Pataki and the senators have proven superfluous. Giuliani's kick bellybutton and earned the respect not only of Americans, but of citizens the world round. New York State's political representatives really don't have much to add.
I wish I could say the same thing about our CIC.
-
I am quoting from memory so feel free to correct me.
Nixon. 74 pieces of legislation
Clinton. 2 pieces.
"I am near positive that Nixon signed more, but then he was President at a time when there was more to be signed. That kind of invalidates the logic."
If you think civil rights groups did not ask for more legislation (a lot more) during the Clinton years. You did not read a news paper.

Sandman, I thank my lucky stars yer here.. yer makin me think, and laugh, and feel like a human being again.
Although I voted for Clinton (twice), I think it would be hilarious if tricky-Dick signed more.
And it is hilarious!
Oh, btw; I voted fer him too.
-
Clinton meant to get around to signing more civil rights legislation, but he ran out of pens signing pardons.
AKDejaVu
Bad joke.. I know
-
Well... here's another, DJV...
Maybe he wanted to sign them but he couldn't get Monica's bellybutton off the desk?
Yeah... it's bad... I know.
