Title: 205s
Post by: 1K3 on July 30, 2005, 04:46:37 PM
C. 205 "Veltro"

* Rolls great (still not close to 190s lol)
* Climbs great like 109, thanks Mercedes:) (dont count G-10)
* Guns are good as 190D-9
* turns great like P-51 (dont count the gamey flaps;))

Like all Italian masterpiece(s), they are rare to see:)

hmmmm they're so rare to see in combat that most seasoned "virtual" jocks only fly it... with best results.

I guess I've been lucky then.  C.205s have never presented a problem for me, the P-38J just outclasses it so much that I have a myriad of options when engaging it.  I can out turn and out maneuver it or I can out E fight it.

The only time a C.205 gave me the fits is when I got into a really good deck fight with FrankB awhile back.  We kept scissoring on the deck until I finally got on his six for the kill.

I'm no expert on flying the 205. That's for sure. But I've had some success at different times. I've also tried 38G vs a 202 and some other odd combinations...

I think that with the engine it's got, a decent pilot (read: you don't have to be Luke Skywalker, just decent) can shoot down a decent 38 pilot. However the 38 (with its uberflappen *TM*) can of course always out turn and out loop it. I've stayed with a few 38s in zooms, and even a p51B (we both came out of the zoom nearly side by side, it was awesome). So if you manage your E right you get a good guns package to shoot things down with.

Ack-Ack,

The P-38J is a much more powerful aircraft, which given when it was introduced it should be.  The P-38G is what you should compare the C.205 too for historical purposes.  I don't know what the base ENY for the P-38J is, but the C.205 should get at least two, and probably more, perk points for downing one.

The C.205 is nice, but it seems to have no real strong points, just some good and some average points.  This makes it hard for it to compete in the MA against fihgters like the P-38J/L, La-7, Spitfire Mk V, Bf109G-10, P-51, Fw190D-9 or N1K2-J.  All of those fighters have very strong points that they can use to beat it while not being outclassed by it in ways that allow it to win.

What happens is that only the more veteran pilots choose the uncommon fighters with any frequency, and that is because they can still win with the handicap.  Everybody likes to win.  When a rookie gets their rear handed to them by one of these fighters they may give it a try or three thinking there may be something too it, but then they get frusterated and go back to the bluntly powerful fighters.  The veterans make the rare fighters seem better than they are.

I recall fooling around with the Mossie in the TA a couple of years ago back when you could shoot eachother down (or maybe it was the DA) and after crushing a guy a few times when he was taking things like Spit XIVs he started taking the Mossie and of course he was absolutely helpless in it.  After that I spent about an hour going over the basics with him, but he'd still have been easy meat for any veteran.

Well, two great points are the speed at medium altitudes and the manoeuvrability (sp?) (esp. roll rate) at high speeds.

Compared to those of the 109G's those are probably two overmodeled features of AH2's C.205.

Good post, Karnak.

I like the C.205.  It rolls very well, turns well (close to but a little less than Spits), dives decently, holds its speed decently, can go quite fast before hitting compressibility (about 500 mph), has a decent flight time, has decent guns (thanks to 2 cannon), and has *a lot* of ammo.

While I like the guns on the 205, the 202 just feels better to me.  Of course the guns on the 202 are pretty bad, its still a lot of fun to fly.  Has longer legs than the 205 too....

I preferr the 202 with that cool green skin...one of the most fun planes to go hunting in...just pretend you're flying a Spad when you look through the gunsite though.

the 205 is in ct this week

but stay in the axis swarm or a decent 38g or p40e will eat your lunch
