Before people jump my bones, I haven't played for rank in ages. The main reason is my squadron no longer recognizes ranking achievements. As far as the game goes rank has one purpose other than bragging rights, the control of Task Groups. I think it would be a good idea if rank was also used for precidence for manned gun positions on Task Groups and fields.
It just makes sense that ranked players should get precidence on the CV gun of their choice and field guns. It would add another reason to have a decent rank, at least 500 or so would prevent a 2 week noob from taking a manned gun you could use far more effectively. Also, as far as task groups are concerned it would be nice if the person with the rank to control the CV in combat was also guarenteed the gun of his choice. This would encourage those piloting the Task Groups to stay with them and not fight elsewhere.
Another thing I've noticed are suspicious instances where accounts with zero or negligable score/rank take over manned field gun and TG gun positions prior to and during an attack by the enemy and do not actually fire the gun. It is my belief that some who use dual accounts simulataneously go so far as to use this tactic to deny the use of the weapon against their primary account and friends during attacks.
As it is now Rank for gameplay purposes really doesn't serve a purpose unless it's low enough to outrank just about everyone in your country for the control of TG's. Allowing rank to give you choice on manned gun positions would make having at least a decent rank worthwhile and meaningfull.
Anyways, just seemed like a good idea, feel free to discuss it...

You know though Zazen, as much as people heckle gunners for it, whenever I have a friend over who wants to kill something, all they want to do is jump in to either gun a bomber, ship or field. There rank in this game would be in the 1000's and this is the only way they can make something go *boom*!
Gonna kick people out of that... I dunno. It's bad enough that some low ranked jerk can steal a cv and take it away from all fights...
I mean its a different idea but I just think for some people, especially the very new, gunning is just about the only thing they can actually enjoy themselves at... Especially if they haven't learned to tune to 200 yet :)

It wouldn't kick them out unless more people wanted to gun than there were guns available and the person who wished to gun had a higher rank. People new to the game aren't learning anything gunning, things are actually harder to hit gunning a field gun than an Ostwind or M16, the rate of fire is much slower. They could always take an Ostwind or M16. Generally speaking field guns are taken out more quickly and easily than the VH, so the AA GV's would be available for the noob alot longer and more regularly than the field guns.

If I could figure out how to aim the danged things and actually hit something I'd agree :D

Hell Im all for getting rid of the idea of using Rank to control TGs.
75% of the people that get control of them havent a clue as to how to properly use em LOL

i wish that Hitech could give us little destroyers like we have PT boats that spawn from the TG's or from ports. :D

Simple .... point and click.

I vote no...I don't play often but can hit a la7 2.5k out in a field gun...and bombers at 5k+ out.
Maybe a vote kick feature by x % of people in the area.

Wow really, you are amazingly good then, much better than me. I think 1.8k is my record against a fighter and 3k vs. a buff in field gun or Ostwind. Personally, I think you're completely FoS but that's just my opinion. :aok

Really Slappy? Then how come the vast majority of players can't hit diddly squat in an Ostwind or Field gun? (They are the exact same thing ballistically the field gun just has a slower rate of fire) If it's so easy why do 90% of the people who try to use one suck so badly they give up even trying?
The myth that hitting things in an Ostwind/Field gun is easy stems from AH1 where it was alot easier. In AH2 however with smaller hit granularity (no hit bubble) it is quite a bit harder and definately, without a doubt, requires some skill and technique. This is especially true if you hope to hit anything that is not coming directly at you or away from you.
The 5 Inchers on TG's are a completely different story, I tried one of those for the first time this week. I wholeheartedly agree those are incredibly easy point and click guns, they need a description in the Hanger menu, "NO SKILL REQUIRED".

onooo not another reason for score whoring ahhhh

I was only suggesting that not everyone is a score potato.
FG is something I am good at.

So, a new player is playing the game. He is on the front 5" gun on a CV. He is trying to learn gunnery skills when someone that shoots buildings for score comes along and kicks him off his gun. Hummm. And then to top it off, the "Higher Score" player (score potato or not) can't hit squat either. I have seen this many times. Score does not equate to skill. I would rather have someone new learning the game at that gun, than someone that thinks or even knows he can do better. This game is for everyone, not just the "old timers". Newbies learn by doing, not be being pushed aside.
I know that this isn't always the case however your plan is to make this game more of a "Members Only" game. Gunners should remain first come, first serve.
As for the field guns being taken out more easy than VHs is true, however 90% of the time, the VH is bombed by "Astrobuffs" and the only defense left up is the field gun. If anything, HT should put in some REAL flak at fields. Put in the 88s. Allow bases to defend against the "Astrobuffs".

Anyone who can't hit squat, noob or otherwise in a 5 inch gun, doesn't need more trigger time for practice, they need to get their eyes checked...
