Was wondering.
I've found the newer cockpit instruments can be difficult for me to read.
I would like to put in a request to HTC.
Is it possible to allow us to retain the old instrument panel vs the new?
A button to select intrument panels would be greatly appreciated!
I can see the current 109 instruments.
Although I'm still trying to figure out why 4 of the gauges now have orangeish dials where they all used to have white????
Gauges mentioned are flaps, oil, temp and fuel. All the rest are orignal white or off white.
Is this just happneing on my system?

I've noticed in the newest planes (p51s and p47s) that a big reason I can't see too well is that they modeled glass over all the instrument dials. It dims the dial and makes it harder to see (even if there's not much reflection off of it at the time you look).

Good lookin out wrag. Posted about the Temp RPM bug and forgot all about this one. Here is the idea:
- I think it would be nice for the ole unz and people with lower res setups to have a choice of 2 skins for the instrument panel on the newer rides. One could be the nice flashy new version and the second chioce could be the same panel, but with the old style (or similar) gauges.
As for the orange lens syndrome... I think u have a problem with the latest patch not getting along with your vid driver wrag =(

The latest two planes - P-51 and P-47s.. do have the interiors a little hard to make out.
I don't have any problems with the Ki-84 or the 190s... but the P-51s and P-47s are just too dark!!
-
I can read the Ki pretty well, but not the p38s. They've been made a little better but still not too easy to see. The 190 is okay, but the pony and jug are kinda bad.
-
i dont bother looking at otehr instruments except the speed and alt :)
-
I think they just need a little more contrast like make the numbers a bit brighter.
the new ones look cool and realistic as hell.
Its just too hard to read em without having to zoom in on them
-
Probably worth remembering that not everyone playing this has 20 20 vision. I'd sacrifice a little realism for clear instrumentation!
-
Please dont mess with the Spitfire cockpit, when the Spitfires are redone.
-
An option to set contrast would be great. Just don't make it permanently different...

For the P-38s, resolution of 1280x1024 or greater will make the dials easier to read. They are virtually unreadable at resolution 1024x768 or lower.

i'd be willing to be over 50% of the player base plays @ 1024x768
i do because my moniter does not support 1280x960 or 1280x1024 (well it does but a 60hz only, and i can't stand seeing that flicker you get)
-
Mustaine's right. I use 1024x768, personally. I doubt even 1% of all the AH players run at 1280x1024 res, which means HTC is building the dials to be best displayed in a mode almost NOBODY is going to use. That's not making much sense to me. They should look GOOD in 1024 res (hell, and 800 res), and then anything higher should make them look DAMN good, instead of crappy and good, respectively.
-
Running AHII at any res higher then 1024X768 on my monitor makes everything too small for my old eyes :(
-
Just as they have hi rez textures, couldn't they create low rez instrument panels? I mean the game states it supports 600x 480 and 800 x 600 resolutions. How about making sure you can read the instruments at those resolutions? I don't see how it could be exploited, and you'd have some grateful over 40 year olds :D
-
Well said BTW, count me in on those older eyes with lower res settings!
-
I've got to admit that I'm not much of a cockpit realism grognard myself. I liked the old easy to read and understand layout and can't stand the new KI and 190 layouts, especially in combat.
Since this is an interior cosmetic issue, what would be wrong with a "turn off realistic cockpits" setting just like we have the ability to turn off skins?

Seems to me that if you are willing to pay a monthly subscription for a game you very much enjoy, then you should fork over the $300-$400 it would cost to purchase a monitor capable of pushing that game at 1600x1200 resolution.

When you don't know the situation of others, that statement makes absolutely no sense.
$175.00 a year is a whole lot different than $300-$400 all at once, especially for someone who could be on a fixed income. Which I would bet we have a few here.
And, you don't know the space requirements of individual people. Where my computer is, I can't fit anything large than a 17" monitor. And if I push it to it's max resolution, my bi-focals aren't even enough to play the game.

Bah.. you miss the point entirely, you must be a young-un. When you get to be over the hill like a lot of us you'll find the higher you set the rez the harder to make out what's on the screen.
After I read your post I set my rez to 1280x1024, everything was far too small for me to see and the cockpits still looked the same, hard to make out.
In Air Warrior the cockpits were non-functional and all the guages, speed, alt etc., were across the bottom of your screen in nice bright white lettering on black. I'm not saying we need to go back to ancient ways but I think the "no realistic cockpit" option would be good. Even if it were the same guages but without the pseudo-glass covers and with contrasting bright white markings :)

when i might not have a CC to pay this months subscription, where am i going to get the money for a new moniter?
AH is like crack, i'll rob an old woman to pay to play.
