The picture is from the Claire Chennault collection at the Hoover Institution, Stanford. I'd say its legit, although the hood doesnt look like any P-40 I've ever seen.

Post by: Furball on August 01, 2005, 02:53:27 PM: it is a mustang, it may be chenault, but it is a mustang. look at radio mast, spinner, canopy framing, under spinner intake and merlin exhaust stubs. Not to mention that it is silver with anti glare paint and paddle style prop.

and for comparison (heck, the 4 bladed prop is even in exactly the same position): -

Look at the canopy is clearly not a 51b or d. Maybe a p40 we haven't seen :) Cone it short as well.
