I thought my graphics card and machine were pretty decent, but that doesn't even look like the game I play called Aces High II.  What you have in your film is WAY better looking than what I ever see.

Man...you must have a nice rig...oh..and great film btw!

Ki-84 can do it.  I don't know if anything else can.

Do not fight a P-38 or Ki-84 in the vertical if you can help it unless you are in one.

Hehehe Heya Lazer, yes, you were the P38 that I got into it with, was very nice fight and very fun. Looking at the film in raw format with trails on is quite awsome I must say. The explosion was very nice alos :D

Zorstorer, yes, Lazer and his P38 was outflown in the vertical.

Great flying aside Wil, your SA in that film is what stood out to me the most.  Good stuff.

Im not the biggest fan of Jet, I felt it was a fitting song for the end.

Glad ya liked it.

I forgot to mention, getting the ditch after all that and with all those cons around is priceless. :lol

Wow...great film and great fight.  I wouldn't have lasted that long myself, but if I had I would have logged off immediately afterwards for exhaustion.

Great job, Morph, and great fight, Wilbus.

This looks like a super film. Only problem for me is it looks incredibly washed out in Ms Media Player in WinXP x64, and there is nothing I can do to fix it.

In Win XP Home, it looks great. Same applies to all my films. Is anyone having this problem in 64 bit Windows?

In AH1 the 109F4 used to do it. In AH2 the 109G10 comes close. Considering comments I've heard about spit14 I think it and the F4u4 would also be a close zoom.

Finally finished DLing and watching the film.

I think you've got some good action there, but I think you chose a poor way of viewing that action. Mind you the film was good, but it could have been better.

My thoughts on the matter:

Close-up shots are good. You used some to excellent effect (for aesthetic shots). However they are terrible when showing something about to happen. In normal zoom you would see the enemy plane and your mind would anticipate it's going to zip past the nose of the Ki and you'd watch to see if the Ki gets its kill or not. However when zoomed in 2x you lose 3/4 the screen size, and all you see is:
nothing
nothing
nothing
nothing
plane zips past instantly with no anticipation
nothing
nothing

See what I mean? Even in default AH2 internal views you get more peripheral vision.

I also hate the chase cam. I hate it because it lags behind where the plane being "chased" is currently pointing. It looks like the plane is pointing one way then when you fire the rounds go WAY off up the screen on a tangent. This also makes hits hard to see as you're never looking *at* the plane as it's being hit.

Those are the 2 things I didn't like about it. They are really both boiled down into one bullet point:

- While good action, you can't SEE the action that is there, due to zoom-in and chase cam.

I do however like your edits and most of the way you put the film together.

First... Lets see your movie. :)

Second, the camera shots are designed. If I want to give you a heads up on a certain aspect of a take, I make sure I do so. For fast, clips, 1-2 or 3-4 max seconds of "hang time" where as you do not see another plane in view, its done this way to allow for the viewer to anticipate something more.

Take any of the movies on TV you watch. You are not seeing around the corner while the monster waits to rip your head off. Again, anticipation.

You have to take all things into concideration while watching a film.

Lastly I will say this.

The film viewer that Hitech gives us simply sucks for making movies. So much so that you can't use it to make a movie. You need a recording program such as fraps to get something one can work with. Try to manipulate views with the sliders and or pan, what happens? The film stops. Then starts once the view is done being adjusted. It is way under par to say the least.

In closing... Did I get paid for this? haha... The effort I put into them is out of the enjoyment of seeing the finished product.
They can take hours. And in the end, there is no real pay off. So when someone comes and critisizes anothers film, I always have to ask. Where's your film?

Post by: Krusty on August 21, 2005, 03:27:00 PM
My film projects are on miniDV and 16mm reels :P

My home PC doesn't have fraps to capture footage or any decent software to edit it (I use a non-linear setup elsewhere to edit, mostly FCP work recently).

Don't take it as a harsh criticism. It was more a critique about your choice of zoom %. Like I said, the rest of it was great, but as I watched it I was constantly nagged by not being able to see the target you were fighting.
