A new translation or Caidin's butchered ripoff?
-
Is there a decent translated version? I haven't bought the book, although I would like to, because I'm afraid it would turn out like some of the translations from German aviators. (Helmut Lipfert's diary.. I find myself re-writing sentences so they make sense)
Funked, you seem to know the book, is there only one translation or is there one that's pretty good?
Thanks!

Looks like Caidin's ripoff.
From Amazon.com:
Written by Martin Caidin from Saburo Sakai's own memoirs and journalist Fred Saito's extensive interviews with the World War II fighter pilot,...

Actually I've never read it! I read a discussion about it once with some people who had read the original in Japanese, and that's where I got that opinion. I'll probably buy a copy regardless. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I enjoyed the Caidin version much more than the original Japanese issue.
Of course, I can't read or speak Japanese.

I read a paper back years ago... but I cant remember who wrote it. It was in English... but I really liked it. It seemed up front and it gave an excellant view of the "other" side it seemed.
