More ack at fields for more challenging captures, less vulch weenies, reduce silly on the deck dive bomber lanc/b17 dweebs. Maybe new ack guns/quad firing higher Rate of fire or more vehicles with anti-air capabilities? Dare I say 5 Inch guns?

There have been several posts along this line of thought, and I wouldn't be opposed to more ack being added. I don't know about the 5"ers though, but some more / varying types of ack would probably be good.
HiTech, I think, posted quite a while back about the addition of or increased lethality of ack, and it's effect on gameplay. The basic idea, if I remember correctly, is that when ack becomes overly heavy or hard to take down, then people start 'hiding' in it more, which then has a negative effect on gameplay. However, every base turning into a vulchfest after 3 cannon planes make one pass isn't exactly a good thing either, so I'd be all for some tweaking.

How about same number of acks, but they are rapidfire instead?
Instead of the tap.. tap.. tap.. tap.. how about they go full RPM 20mm like they should, and go bratatatatatatatatatatatata?
That should be pretty good.

i say mannable quad 20s. that would be way better than the 37mm. and there should be more akak. also, they should all be mannable but controlled by AI when nobody in em.

IMO should have at least 4 twin .50's mounts around the field. Would love to see a quad 20's Bofors gun in the center.

Quad 40mm mounts would be nice, but I would like to see a gun
that could reach up and touch that parade of bomber formations
that go marching across the field so high that they don't even
show an icon. Make the flak kill friend and foe alike? I am ok
with that. For a very long time, I did not know that it would not
kill a friendly, so I did not shoot if a friend was in the line of fire.
Same with the 5 inch on the CV, I don't shoot at enemy planes
that are being chased by friendlies, exception, anything that is
diving on the CV at 2K or less.

If we got decent ack we could take the airplanes out ourselves. And the vulchfests and on the deck bombing would be much more problematical. Of course the vulchballers score would probably degrade due to friendly aircraft getting wheels up and some speed and the bomber box pilots would probably move above 3K..Ohhh, The Horror!

I still say same number of acks, but much higher rate of fire is the answer.
Five times the speed that it is firing currently, and that's five times the lead flying in the air, and five times the chance of ack hit when flying too close to a field.
Just change how the ack tracers look a little bit so it looks more natural with rapidfire(which is but a simple problem of using a new texture file), and that should be it.
No need for new ack codings, or trying to figure out where to place them - and yet still a lot more effective.

How about a shimmering curtain of electrical energy that exists in a cylinder with a 5 mile diameter and 5000 feet of height? If an plane from a country other than the one holding the base touches the shimmering cylinder, it gets zapped like a moth in a bugwhacker.
That'd do it.

Seriously, yup good idea, I have actually came close to deacking a large field all on my own with a Tiff a few times.
Should be harder.

Well, I see it like this.
Leave 1 37 ack. Keep this as AI controlled if no one is in it.
Put in 1 dual 20mm.
Put in 2 dual .50's (or quad, I don't know what was used more).
That's for the tiny airfield.
For the medium add 1 20 and 2 .50's. For the large add on another 20 and 2 more .50's. But then give it a single 5" gun in the middle.
Btw, if you make it so ACK can kill friendly, it's going to get abused and Shane will never be able to up again.

Just trying to help. After all the sooner we get ALL the air combat out of Aces High the better. After all this is really supposed to be WW2OL.
Think how effective the bugwhacker will be when a friendly runs to the friendly electrical bugwhacker. Can't follow him there, for sure!
So instead of 4,231 new ack guns at a field to protect ack runners, just a simple bugwhacker. I considered massive flocks of crows with frickin' laser beams on their heads but I think there'd be a frame rate hit.

Nah, I haveta be convinced that the egg is going to actually hit me before I'll exit, and even then I only bother if I have a bunch of kills in my pelt pouch.

I posted a big, "How to..In Ostwind" post. It has helped alot who have read it. I did this because I hate vulching...all vulching...not just that perpetrated agaisnt Rooks. Do a topic search.

I wouldn't mind seeing some tweeking done to the ack. I have deacked a large field with a P51D by myself and I with 1 other squadmate went on a deacking spree with 2 Hurry MK1's. That was fun It wasnt all that hard and we deacked at least 2 bases untill one ack got my oil. :)
P.S. the gun that got my oil died.

Ack and manned ack deadly only for enemies is in the same catergory as kill shooter. It's not correct in a historical way but it's the only solution in a game environment like the MA. Concerning the 5ers on the fleets. I think the current solution is good. The proximity shells explode near friendlies too, saving the enemy plane without hurting the friendly one.
Field ack: Let's think about it in terms of ressources. Allocate ack dynamically, depending on numbers. Every country in a game has the same ressources. Less players online means, this country made more efforts in producing cannons and has better stationary defense capacities in a wider perimeter around a field. This could even reduce the necessity of eny restriction. This is not a short time solution for sure and would cause some coding.

Please refrain from lumping vulchers and furballers in the same group. Two different things.

PS... I wouldn't have a problem with increased AI ack at a field, as long as it's not the 'puffy' variety. ;)
