Nilsen,
I have an off the wall question for you and othe Euro members here. No offense meant here Nilsen but you seem to be one of the easier guys to "talk" here on the board. Not trying to slight the other Euro members tho so thats not the case.
I love to fish for walleye here on Lake Erie in northeastern Ohio. I have a book at home on tips and tactics used to fish for walleye. One of the chapters covers the genetics of walleye and other fish related to walleye like the sauger. We have cross bred sauger and walleye and call them saugeye. All three fish are considered game fish here, walleye, sauger, saugeye. There is a section in the book about Zander. They are related to the walleye and look like walleye but grow much larger than our fish. It was mentioned in the book that we stocked some Zander here in the USA but was considered not a good idea because of competition with other game fish. They (biologists) feared the Zander would take over and ruin the walleye fishing.
Do any of you guys fish much? Do you target Zander? The UK record is a 19.5lb fish. I hear the Zander can grow well over 30lbs! Thats one pig of a game fish for fresh water! Just curious guys if any of you pursue this Zander like I chase walleye all over Lake Erie. Thanks

Sorry SEgunner.
When it comes to fishing i have almost no clue whatsoever. The names you mentioned doesnt sound familiar but then they would prolly be called someting else over here. I googled for walleye and zander but to my untrained eye they didnt look familiar.
The only fishing I do is from my boat in the summer and then I target macrel but usually end up with cod.

Not a fisherman but I do originaly hale from east anglia and the Zander fish was a real problem when I was a kid and attempting to dip a stick with twine attached into our local rivers. Not native to the UK it was introduced from Holland I think and it promptly munched its way through the fish population in that part of the UK. Probably why I never caught anything or was that because of my makeshift equipment! :lol

LOL! Gents. Thanks for the replies. I appreciate that.

No probs enjoy your fishing. May your catch net always be full:D

Zander used to be fish Vermin in the majority of the UK.
Eat the same sort of stuff as Pike and Perch, pretty much a catch and kill policy as far as I know. Certainly the case in my local area, although that may have changed in the last few years.

If I remember right, Zander is pretty lazy fish. Just reel it up fast and thats it.

Damn you lucky...
I spent my childhood on Baltic coast, on Karelian Isthmus, but Finnish Gulf is fresh water. :(
BTW, zander was the most popular fish there.

abit of luck, abit hard work and alot of focus on getting what i really want at the expense of owning my own car and other ""luxuries"" at an age where young men/boys want that kind of stuff.
