If you specify close army co-operation.
For photo-recon the Ki-46 did a hell of a job in the Pacific for a long time and the PR Mosquitos are hard to beat in Europe until the Ar234s got used for PR work.

Hungarian Fw189A-1 of 3/1 Squadron. The Pegasus on the engine cowl was the unit symbol.

   :( :( :( Ive never heard of this plane till was looking stuff up last night. Shows what i know =)
-
So damn UGLY it had to be German.
-
Hey man! It's a beautiful bird! You'll discover that if/when you ever build a model of it. It's got subtleties that really make it stand out as a design.

its a plane! tada!! im smart to! I really have no clue. Looks like a passenger or reconnasiance thing
-
Lol, what the hell is it with Germans and such ugly looking planes.
Most of those lot look like constructer set mistakes made by a 2 year old.
Krusty - subtleties, about as subtle as a half brick coming through your front window.

Willy Wonka and his Flying Headwind?

No wonder they hired Kurt.
-
At first I thought it could be a Farman design... I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw who the builder was! Yes, thank God they hired Kurt!.... it wasn't designed by him, Widewing, is it?

Obviously you've never played the IL2 Sturmovik simulation series. Try it. It's really great, and worth the money and time you'll spend on it.
-
Btw, I forgot...
SMIDSY, the picture you posted: it's a Junkers Ju 287 and, given the engines and gear configuration, it should be the first prototype, the V1.

it was supposed to be an interesting aircraft for thethang - why i quoted him. Not a guess this aircraft. The fact that was in the link i posted should be a bit of a clue. Literally all major aircraft of wwii will be easy for a lot of this community.
but here is your happy meal voucher for getting it right.

the guy of the roof is smiling =D
-

You'd be surprised how many of Crimson Skies' more unusual designs actually exsisted in real life (albeit under another name). Thats why I liked that game so much :aok
