Was watching progress of the fire on the big island... 5,000+ evacuated.. wondering if Star of Africa's ok??
Lookin pretty ugly.. 25,000 acres gone, working up the west coast. Seems like one whole town may be cut off and burned.

Isn't SA a haole from oahu?

Yep, the brush fires were happening on the Big Island, while Oahu's (significantly smaller) brush fires happened last month around the Fourth of July. SA2 lives here on Oahu.
I do remember someone else who used to post here that lives in the Waikoloa area of the Big Island, which is where the fires are occurring. Forgot his handle, but was one that made a bet with Toad...

XtremeJ is from the big island too. Havent heard from him in awhile. Checked with some friends over there, so far everyone is ok. Oahu has had its share of fires this year, its been one of the worst in a long time for brush fires. Firemen are holding their own though. Couple weeks ago had the choppers outside my house dumping water on fires in a gulch. Scorched the trees in the back yard.

Update on the fires, if anyone is interested.

Glad to see you are ok Star :)
Were you collected enough to put some heavily insured junk in the path of the fire?
-
I wish. Unfortunately the only fires that came close to my house were in a gulch that is part of an old naval ammo storage facility. The only road in is a military access road. Otherwise my car would have been at the bottom of that gulch waiting for the flames lol. :)
I hear they did find a truck down there, so maybe some lucky stiff had the same idea. Heh.

Firefighters have been battling blazes on the west coast of the island for days now, finally getting them close to being under control. Today I come home and once again see the area I live under a heavy cloud of smoke from several miles away. I get home, and this is what I see from the front porch when I walk up.

Couldnt get good shots of the chopper, but he's using a water hazard on the golf course nearby to refill his bucket to dump on the flames. There are houses on the other side of that smoke, and its less than half a mile from me now. Turn on the sprinkler system, hose down the trees, and pray. I feel for the folks on the other side of the gulch. Its in their backyards now. :(

Chopper shots. :) Not the best ones, I wasnt quick enough for the close up shots when he flew over the house. The Army has theirs out here helping with the fire. They are getting water from the harbor and dumping it, while the smaller chopper makes quick runs from the golf course.
