Title: Center Island GV- Plane Issue
Post by: Higgins on August 03, 2005, 01:58:37 PM
I know I shouldn't be surpised by some people's behavior in the MA but I thought I'd post this to atleast let the offenders know what impact they had on a potential HTC customer.

I currently pay for 2 accounts, mine and  a friends that wouldn't normally pay for an online game due to financial issues.  We've been trying to convince another friend to get on AH because of his interest in WWII history and planes ect.  His extreme reluctance has been having to deal with people in an online game being nasty and rude and ruining his fun as he tried online games some years ago.  We convinced him how cool AH was and although the AH community has its own "special cases" overall the majority of people are great people to play in an online sim with and against.

So, I took up a Mossie on the center island to show him that there is ground action as well as air fighting as well.  I took 4 X 500lb bombs to Jabo and then fight whatever enemy planes were in the area.  We happen to have 80% air control so I dropped in and took out 1 or 2 tanks on the first pass, and then made a second pass and got another kill or so.  Immediately I got the PM from someone (you know who you are) telling me how I suck, I can't battle aircraft and that I'm a loser.  Then over channel 200 someone else posts something simular to Loser ect.

My friend saw the kill messages and then the text and asked what that was about.  Well, long story short, this guy lost complete interest even if I pay for his account due to this childish behavior.  I know it's not that big of a deal but his hesitance in the beginning and the first flight seeing that just solidified his reluctance.  He wasn't even interested if I picked up his bill on the account.  Sad that we lost an online buddy and you Bish and Knits another easy target and HTC lost $!4.95 a month over some childish behavior.

Now I completely understand what these guys in the Pnzrs are frustrated about.  I feel frustrated when someone in a flak hangs out on the outskirts of an airfield.  Sometimes you just want to fight ground warfare, ect.  You can either up a flak (which there were flaks up) for air defense and get some kills or just type on 200 "Hey Rook Mossie, stay away we are ground fightin, ect" or something to that affect and I'd gladly stay away.  I would bet most people would do the same.  It takes more time and typing to call me a loser, I can't fight, ect ect. on PM then simply asking me not to bother your gv battle.  If you think someone won't see the channel 200 message, PM them and ask then not to bomb you.  Most people's goals are not to bother or upset others in the game, whether in a plane or a tank.  It's to experience an interactive game with live enemies and have fun.

I wanted to show this guy how cool the game was and do a good Jabo run on GVs and planes.  The center island is a great place to do it all quickly.  Behavior like above is just ridiculous and sad.  You guys know who you are and posting call signs is not something for the message boards or my style.  Just relax and have fun, that's what its all about right?  It sucks that HTC lost someone's interest over it but I know there are much worse things to get upset about.   to all of you guys and gals that make this game experience so much fun.

Higgins, i  some times do the same thing, attacking gvs.   But for the most part it is when my buds are being spawn camped or they want a recon.  Sometimes when they are out numbered they PM me so i can come and assist them.   I believe it was wrong for someone to do that.  If they don't like having a plane around gv combat, then they should grab a flak-panzer or an M16 and kill the nme plane.  Tell your bud im sorry for the way people act.  Like you said, MOST people in the MA arent bad people, we just have some people who gets ticked when they get killed.

I hear your pain, I mostly stay away from TT because it drags my FPS down and plus its easy to be picked off by FlaKs and M16s.

Perhaps there should be a spot for just GVs, at a high altitude that'd no one would go to.

He should learn not to care what other people say, especially in a game.

In most armored regiments, they have AA vehicles to defend the other vehicles from the air threats.  Maybe these GV wonders that whine about planes bombing them should think about having an flak panzie or M16 come along for air defense.

Sounds like **** or ******* . I don't know why your friend's so easily run off, but one of the issues with interacting with people online is, well, interacting with people. There are a few in every bunch, and the most notorious in AH figured out that they won't get muted if they PM, and the .report command is a joke, so they know they're not going to be punished, unless the person they're harassing takes a screenshot, composes a short email, and fires it off to HTC. Granted, that's not too difficult, but if HTC got an email for every one of these incidents, he'd spend all day on email.

You should never take anything from those losers seriously in any way. I've received numerous physical threats, unpleasant comments regarding my parents, been screamed at on private vox, and called every name you can imagine. *shrug* No big deal to me. If grown men want to act like 12 yo boys and squeal because I killed them, terrific. I admit I like to wind some people up, but by and large the community here is a good one, and letting the fraction of 1% that are idiots run you off is silly.

Ummm..sorry for that hub, I was having a bad day. But seriuosly if I ever see you I'm going to have to punch you in the mouth, you and your momma. BTW, I am 12 lamer!!!

As for your friend quiting Higgins, if he couldn't take that, he'd never make it anyway. I know that sounds harsh but it's true. It's ashamed that he got chased off, but if he/she is an adult they should be able to handle a little name calling from a virtual combatant. If you can't handle that, how can you get through life in the real world?

Wait... you mean a GVer got mad because a plane interfered with his GV combat????? You mean, if I want to vul..., err, do field suppression and not have GVs fire at me as I fight the upping planes, all I have to do is ask? I always thought that when engaged in those activities, "you pays your money, and you takes your chances".
WOW, I learn something new about this game everyday!:aok

Simple

Don't monitor 200. That way they they can scream all they want and you won't see it. They will think you are ignoring them and it will irritate them even more.

As far as PM's a dot command to squelch PMs with the option to accept them would be cool.

I.E.

.blockPM {All/GameID}

Then if someone tunes to your channel you see this.

{GameID} want to send you a PM/Tune VOX to you.

Then you would enter.

.allowpm {All/GameID}

they would see

{game ID} has accepted your PM request.

Now the can send the PM or speak to you on VOX.

Would be nice if the game remembers your squelch commands between session too.

Hehe.  I love taking my HurriD and popping GV's.

Being in a flak panzer wont save you!  (but an m16 will)

Higgins,
Sitting here reading your post I spit Captain and Coke on my desk..very close to the same happened to me last night, I also killed a gv in a IL2 and was promptly called a derogatory slang term for homosexual then promptly told they were coming back to kill me....never did see them ;)  I thought it was funny then and funnier now. I say that 10% of the players online are too immature for a multi player environment but what can you do? Their moms forked over the cash so they are here until mom pulls the credit card. You should tell your friend to come on back...most of the community is semi potty trained.

laser, yak 9ts work better. Less round but, anything that shoots rounds the size of watermelons wins in my book. (exageration)

Well, considering that the 9t fires HE, and the Hurri D fires a BIGGER bullet of AP two at a time...

I'll take my HurriD.  I think I would get insulted more by people but they are too embarassed to say out loud that they got killed by a HurriD.

Good to know. Will try the hurricane out next trip to tanktown. I usually keep my hurricane for buffs and la7s.

Yeah, come in from high and above.  Start your run about 1k ICON out.  Have your convergence set to 350.

As you come down you'll see it turn to 400, fire immediately.  By the time you fire you'll be 350 away and you'll put 2 ap rounds right through the roof of the turret.

Or come in from the behind and put 2 into the engine.  Through either it's an instant engine or turret out at least if it's a good shot.

It takes 1-3 solid hits to take a panzer.  It takes 1-2 solid hits to take an Osti.  1-4 for a T34.  Roughly around 5-10 for a Tiger.  1 for an M8.

Err, when I say hits, I mean shots.  I'm just too lazy to edit it.  You get 15 shots.  When I say decent shot, I mean the round didn't bounce off.  You'll be able to clearly see the round bounce off of the armor.

Also, M16's and M3's are hard.  The rounds go through the armor like butter, but it's hard to hit something important.  You pretty much need to hit the drivers, but you can use the .303's for that.

Like someone has already said......

If ANYONE privates you with ANY ABUSE take a screen shot and turn it over to HTC.  Do not ignore them PLEASE!

That is what I do.

Why?  Because that is the only option available.  No other option works in any manner.  These people depend on the fact that they aren't known to you.  They also depend on the fact that you will probably NEVER meet them in person.  I see no reason to ignore this kind of garbage and it only incourages them to abuse others.

If some one privates me after an encounter with abuse they can bet they will explain there activities to HTC.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies.  I don't want you to think either that I or my friend are overly sensitive about that stuff.  You know wherever you go you will run into those kind of people.  The part that stinks is that this guy played other online games (strategy - like red alert) a few years back and had to deal with a younger immature crowd to saw the least.  His choice, like mine was that it was less than enjoyable to play those type games online and be able to relax and focus on the fun of it with so many jerks hiding behind the online bad boy thing.

I convinced him that AH was so much of an older more mature crowd, yaddie yaddie and talked him into giving it a shot only to get PMs and channel 200 insults on the first sortie.  Made a liar out of me and made him not want to get involved.  Not like he was that mad, he just shook his head and walked off telling me he told me so.  I had to just bail out of my Mossie and go have a beer.  No big deal, just sucks it worked out like that.  Again thanks for your input and a big to all.

When I introduce a new player 2 the game I disable 200.  Also I'll let my country know that a new player is using my account or just d/led ah.  Let them know his name and watch over 10 's fly out.   I let him know thats your teammates saying wassup.  Wow cool game,  I have over 10 people saying hello and many that are offering their help if needed.  They ask a question, 5 people answer within a minute.

Thats the way BNShill showed me the game and I fell in love with it.  I'm one 2 never ask for help and believe in the school of hard knocks.  But after 3 months of flying I almost gave up and ask for help.  As quickly as I ask for it Shane and Ack-Ack where their 2 help.   Thxs

My suggestion would have been  telling him all the great freatures we have in place 2 keep inmature behavior off the text area.  And would have focus on your country's community first before ah2 community.   Then he would have seen the great community we have and will either squelch the moron(s) or just ingorne them if any comments are made towards them.

Let's face it this game has the steep learning curve that causes some 2 loss it for a second.  No excuse but once he starts using gv's and learns it takes almost a half an hour now 2 get away.  He'll start 2 understand some of the frustration gv'ers encounter and be able 2 truly let silly comments fall 2 the side.  Just my 2 cents:>
