Title: Firefly on SciFi
Post by: rpm on August 05, 2005, 11:59:38 PM
I never watched Firefly on FOX. This is a great series. Definitely going to have to buy the DVD set. Serenity looks like it will be great, too.

I'm glad SciFi picked it up.

Yes its great..started watching it last weekend. You see they have a movie coming out called Serenity. Based on the show I guess.  Kinda brutal too. Nice change of pace from blue faced aliens, or a woman with a couple lumps on her head because shes an "alien".

I really like it but I still think the best sci-fi series to date was Babylon5 (a five year story arc).  It's a shame that Firefly was cancelled so early in it's run as it had a great shot at success.

All the Best...

I have a feeling Firefly is one of those shows that flopped early but will be reborn.

I just got done watching all 12 eps.  It's amazing that halfway through I didn't want to watch the remaining 6 because I knew I'd like the show and want to see more.  It happened, I was mad after epp 12 that I couldnt see any more and will have to wait for the movie.  Hopfully this may come back.

I have a feeling if the movie does well it will return. They are probably watching the SciFi ratings closely. Too bad it doesn't air as the lead in for BSG. It earned a 1.3 in the ratings last week. Not too shabby for non-primetime.

Everyone was talking about the captain kicking the guy into the engine...pretty funny. But my biggest laugh was when the doped up Jayne shot the same guy in the knee earlier. "I was aiming for his head.":rofl

Proably not, Joss had to sign a contract with the ******s at Fox in order to get the rights to make the movie.  The contract stipulates that he won't make another TV series about Firefly for five years.

A friend just lent me the box set, and I'm on the second episode right now.  I remember watching this same episode when the show premiered on TV, and was bored to tears.  It's amazing what seeing them in the proper order can do, now I'm captivated.

Those idiots at Fox, they sure fracked this series up by airing it out of order.

They cancelled Family Guy, too. Then they saw the DVD sales and brought it back.

If the ratings are good and the movie does well... who knows.

I admit the "old west" meets "starship" bit was hard to grasp. But after you start watching, it kinda makes sense.

it makes perfect sense.....except for the guns, those just look like they are for show.  But, when you break it down settleing frontiers is going to be like the old west with space ships being the covered wagons of the future.

I never saw it when it first came out.  Sounds like it met the same fate as "Space Above & Beyond."  You can always count on FOX to make shows meant for a different network.

Anyway after watching the first episode I thought it was a little silly with the whole cowboys in space thing.  But after watching the pilot and first real episode I have to say I'm hooked.  I love the producers of this show because they made some smart decisions.  First, there is not sound in all the space shots.  About damn time.  I think Babylon 5 did this in the beginning but gave it up.  And the other more important thing is how the characters deal with problems, which seems much more believable than other shows.  Like during the pilot where that Fed was holding the Doc's sister (forgot her name) hostage at gunpoint, instead of everybody dropping their guns and listening to him they simply shot him.  I would have to guess SciFi is looking to pick it up again.  If they did it would only add to an already great lineup of original series.

because they were Marines I was real excited about "space above and beyond"  It lost me real quick though.  Pilots/commandos/pilots/everything else was a little over the top.  I'd a liked it better if it was more realistic in the sense that you have your pilots then you have your grunts and that's that.

personally I was allways pissed that "Lex" had more air time than farscape did as far as re-runs goes.  I hated that show.

I havent seen any of the episodes of Firefly yet.  Does the series have any relation to the old Piers Anthony book of the same name?

Never read the book you are talking about, but I doubt it has anything to do with it. Joss Whedon wrote this.

Jayne.... The man they call Jayne...
`
(Chorus):
He robbed from the rich and he ..gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man and he ..gave him what for!
Our love for him now.. ain't hard to explain,
The Hero of Canton, ..the man they call Jayne!
-
Now Jayne saw the Mudders' backs breakin'.
He sa-w the Mudders' laments
and he saw the Magistrate takin'
.. every dollar and leavin' Five Cents!
So he said, "You can't do that to my people!"
He said,"Can't crush them under your he-el!"
Jayne strapped on his hat.. and in Five seconds flat,
Stole everything Boss Higgins had to steal!
-
(Chorus):
He robbed from the rich and he ..gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man and he..gave him what for!
Our love for him now.. ain't hard to explain,
The Hero of Canton, ..the man they call Jayne!
-
Now here is what separates heroes,
..from common folk ..like you and I,
The man they call Jayne, he ..turned 'round his plane,
.. and let ..that money hit the sky!
He dropped it on-to our hous-es,
he dropped it into our ya--rds!
The Man they call Jayne, he stole away our pain
and he headed out for the stars!
-
(Chorus):
He robbed from the rich and he ..gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man and he..gave him what for!
Our love for him now.. ain't hard to explain,
The Hero of Canton, ..the man they call Ja---yne!
