Title: any HTPC specialist in the crowd ?
Post by: straffo on August 07, 2005, 07:20:00 AM
I'm planning to build one but I'm wondering where to start :)

The base will be my current config :
Asus A78NX deluxe (chipset Nforce2)
Barton 2500 (running overclocked stable at 2000)
1 go DDR
120go disk
ATI 9800 Pro

I wonder what kind of software and hardware I should take.

Well in this case I'll have to change the mobo and I'm pretty limited by the WAF*

You mean 1GB DDR and 120GB disk right?  WTF is a "go"?  Is this a new French metric unit?   :rofl

You got the right mobo.
If you are getting an ATI card get an All-In-Wonder if you need a tuner.
Do you already have speakers?
What display are you planning on using?
What kind of TV service do you have?  Cable, satellite?  HD?

In french, Byte = Octet. Ergo, Gigabyte = GigaOctet :)

Daniel is right O stand for Octet (Byte) ,so we have Octet and Bit and not Byte and Bit it's better to avoid errors :)
Btw in ISO even English speaker are supposed to use octet :p

I'm planing a DVD/DivX player + TNT (HDTV) + Sat (if possible) I would also a config where I can have timeshift for TV recording.
I'm just in the 1st stage of planification I plan to build the config during 1st semester 2006.

Don't use an ATI all in wonder as the tv tuner. They are are software only cards, and only marginally compatible with much of the pvr software.

The Hauppauge pvr 150 and 250 are about the most compatible cards you can get.
