I have taken 4 days of vacation in the last year.
Technically I have 150 PTO hours piled up, but there is no way that I can take them. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
I'm curious if this is a normal amount for you guys in the US?
How about you guys outside of the US?

150 hours? Damn, you have any idea what I would do with that? I'd take the girl of my heart out for a damn long week vacation (or if you're married, send her away and enjoy some true free time *G*)
-
I've taken 30 days split up into 5 day blocks so I get 6 full weeks off (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Basically I take a week off every other month.

I took 2 weeks off for the first time ever last year.
The governing body of my industry requires you to take at least 5 days consecutive at least once a year.
When you work on commission, time off means a smaller income stream.
I am one of the fortunate people who loves his job. To me its not a job, it is a way of life. I have been doing it for close to 20 years and everyday is still a new adventure.

Almost 4 weeks vacation per year.
2 weeks sick leave per year (use it as vacation (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) )
2 weeks of paid holiday time off a year (8 of it during X-mas)
Personal Business time off (up to 40 hours before the whistle blows)
Non Industrial time off (up to 40 hours before the whistle blows, used for doctors appointments, dentist)
Edit:last year I had 9 weeks off total paid time.

3 weeks a year... I take at least one of those weeks as an occasional day off (usually coinciding with a new AH release) and the others in a summer block and a mid-winter block.
You just gotta take your vacation. When you are gone and the whole thing falls apart, they will need to realize that they need more resources and hire them.

300+ hours in a backlog and new hour coming at 4 weeks/year. Actually I'm losing them since I'm at the limit. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

It seems that for many of us our 'vacation time' is a carrot on a stick. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
The pace of business just does not let up enough to use the vacation time that has accrued. Higher ups are always setting a schedule that does not seem to allow time to off be taken. If we do slow our schedule to accommodate vacations and our competition does not, we lose. The same goes for our competition, they can't or they lose.
There is one guy I work with who has not taken a single vacation day in more than 5 years.
Fellow PTO hoarders, (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
What industries do you guys work in?
I work at a .com

Same thing for the work day... 5 rolls around, leave. Staying late makes them think that it is okay, and they will set deadlines create a never ending downward spiral.
Take back your life!
I also work for a .com... well, at least our section of the business is a .com...

Since starting my current gig in mid May last year, I've had about 2 weeks off, excluding Christmas and Bank Holidays. I'm a contractor, so if I don't work, I don't get paid. That said, my boss is exceptionally good, so if I need to take a day off, I can.
Or come in late when some b*st*rd shunts my car.
Of course, prior to that, I'd had 14 weeks off...
Did I mention I work in the aerospace industry too?

I've been working at the same place for almost 14 years now.
I'm up to 5 weeks per year vacation.
Last year I took 4 weeks straight to tour the western US but that's something that won't happen again. Normally I take four weeks total.
p.s. I don't think that is normal or even average, I think I'm lucky

9 weeks of paid vacation every year (if you have the 7,5 hour working day), weekends off, every major holiday off, special vacation options for paternity for example (took 1 month this year.)
Optional vacation for doing overtime (time and a half as free time..)
In case of flu or other minor sickness, a ticket from a nurse gives easy 1 weeks off.. etc etc.
And this is standard to all the workers in finland.
