Ok guys, I'm trying to get a feel for the sorry bunch of people in here that call themselves a community. There is only one way that you can raise my estimation of you all: confess your speed addiction.
Mine: Can't get enough of Formula One racing, World Grand Prix motorcycles, World Superbike motorcycles and World Rallying.
I also owned a Honda Fireblade sports bike (currently between bikes) and am itching to get back on a bike (can anyone say "withdrawals").
Am I the only one with this addiction? I think not. Speak up now please.

First scooter was a '56 BSA 500 popper, traded it for a Norton 650 Commander. After a stint with Uncle Sam I had a series of rice burners (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Just this weekend I ordered a brand new Royal Enfield. Ok Ok not a lot of speed here but I surely do love to ride.

I just dont get any kind of rush watching OTHER people racing. I much rather be inside.
Once in a while I take the vette to the speedway for some fast fun, its a great rush. I also love racing in 4-Tracks in abandoned construction sites and dry rivers.

I like driving a non-descript car. I think you get away with a lot more in a car that looks like you're on the way to a soccer game, than something like a 'Vette or a Beemer. Not that I would mind a 540 or anything like that, but I hate being a target.
In my dark colored '92 Diamante, I just try to blend in with the other traffic. It just doesn't seem to stand out as much as a red corvette doing 87mph on the highway.

(http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif). Never did get that fixed. Just got use to it. I use it for a drunk test now. If a guy notice's it. He needs another beer.

Wanna go fast????? Learn to fly. Speeding around on the surface, outside of a controlled race environment is not only dangerous but simply stupid. There are others who do not need to be endangered by your "addiction". Visit the impound yard for your local law enforcement agency to see the results of this. Two young men were just sentenced to prison here in Arizona for it. They will be out in 1 and 4 years respectively. Their impromptu race resulted in a sentence of death for their victim who was driving on the same road. He will remain dead.
PS. having said that, I have been over 140 MPH on 4 wheels, 125MPH on 2 wheels and over 180MPH in my plane. The surface speed was after training and in performance of duty. I wouldn't call it particularly fun. The plane IS a blast however.

Couldn't agree with you more. On a bike, however, the thrill of speed comes from riding through corners rather than going as fast as you can in a straight line. You can get a great speed rush without endangering yourself or others. The temptation to speed is pretty great I admit, though for that there are track days at the local racing circuits.
Oh and btw, I do fly aircraft as well (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).

Wlfsbane,
The problem isn't only the speed. It's the unpredictability of the traffic, of all types, on the road as you are getting your "rush". The bike endanger more than yourself. Yep I drove them professionally and still have one now. My driving was in heavy traffic for enforcement purposes. VERY stimulating at times. ahh ive enver been much for going too fast, My GF's mom bought a mustang GT (why is beyone me) and i drove it a bit and to me THAT THING IS TOO FAST, it accelerates faster than i am comfortable with....considering its not really what many would deem a fast car and it still scares me i guess im not much of a speed freak..
as for watching races..I only do that for the wrecks..

Swoop! you don't need an R6 mate! You'll go too fast, offend the coppers and waste good beermoney on tyres and aspirin. You want a nice brown 1979 BMW R100RT with special go faster brakes and slinky(TM) suspension. I can scare myself totally Sh*tless at normal roadspeeds, and I've learnt all about late braking (i.e 7-800 metres before the roundabout or yer dead). I'll swap with you if you want, you dont know what youre missing!

Rolling end over end in a Mitsubishi 3000 GT-VR4 through the Mojave Desert cured any addiction I had to speed.

(http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) oh yes I do.
lessee now.....in order, I've ridden:
Honda C70 moped (Ratty) 50mph top speed (downhill), handled like a panzer. Bloke I used to work with sold me this, it had been stood in a barn for 3 years.....started 3rd kick.
Kawasaki AR80 (Karen) 65mph top speed, 0-60 in about 15 seconds, bloody uncomfortable, bits used to fall off....including the kick start.
Suzuki RGV250L (Suzi) 128mph top speed, 0-60 in 5 seconds, damn uncomfortable, power band came in like a whip, handled like a GP bike. Engine seized eventually.....apparently a power valve dropped into the cylinder....detonation followed. The barrels on RGVs are chrome plated so after this not only did it need a re-bore but replating as well. 2 weeks later the gear box seized. I got arrested for dangerous driving on this.....was doing 50 in a 40 zone, a cop pulled in behind me (mirrors are crap on RGVs, cant see a thing) and struck the siren on when about 2 feet behind me......I completely toejam myself and almost fell off....so the bastard said I wasnt in control and charged me with dangerous.....needless to say it got thrown out of court (amazing how may witnesses you can find when there's free beer involved), didnt even get any points for the speeding.
Husqvana Christ knows what No speedo on these, dunno how fast they go. These things are single cyl, 2 stroke, 500cc off roaders......you wouldnt believe how much wheel spin you get on grass.
Honda CBR600F2 (Henrietta) 145mph top speed, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, bloody comfortable but handling nothing like the RGV. This was a mates bike, he lent it me while the RGV was shagged. A month after I gave it back he crashed into a lamp post. Check out the October 1997 edition of Performance Bikes.....that's me with the crash damaged CBR. We raced this bike for a season, just minor league, a learner racer took me out on a sighting lap at 6am one morning, now I've got a pin holding my elbow together.
Kawasaki KL400 (Sharon) Damn, these things are single cylinder, 4 stroke off road bikes. You can pull away in top gear. Damn slow but who cares when a mate has lent you another bike while yours is knackered.....again.
Kawasaki ZXR400L3 (Megan) 140 mph top speed, 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds. This one was black and purple with pink graphics.....real sexy bike. The exhaust downpipes rotted through eventually (only the bits you can see are stainless steel) and then some dozy cow backed over it in a carpark, I got a whole new fairing, screen (black) and completely new exhaust out of it. Can you believe a Micron carbon fibre race exhaust (full system, not just end can) was cheaper than the standard Kawasaki one.....that and a dynojet kit increased BHP to 70 (dyno'd) and gave me 145mph top end. Some bastard stole this bike from outside my appartment in Amsterdam.....and if I ever find the git I'll rip his balls off. Only bad thing about ZXRs is the suspension......a 100 mile trip is like being attacked by a trainee mugger specialising in lower back, kidneys and ribs.
Triumph T595 (unnamed - on loan) Christ knows what the top speed it, damn fast anyway. While I was at college the Student Union held an auction for RAG week.....one of the things they auctioned was a blast on the back of a T595 supplied by a local bike shop.....and what with me being a motorcycle instructor....I got the job of being the driver. All I can say is, the test rider for Triumph must be a 6'8" gorilla with a concave whole in his chest where the fuel tank fits.
Honda RVF400 (unnamed - rental) 117mph top speed (limited), 0-60 in about 5 seconds. Rented this one while the ZXR was being fixed, I was really pissed off about the speed limiter but apparenly all Japanese imports are like this. However, if you want a bike that handles well this is it. I've never, ever, leaned a bike over further than an RVF......absolutely astounding.
Kawasaki ZX-6R (unnamed - rental) 160 mph top speed, 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds. Great straight line performance, comfortable, show it a corner and it went all to peices......not trying to say all ZX-6Rs are like this....but this one was.
Yamaha YZF-R6 (Winnie) 165 mph top speed (claimed by Yamaha anyway - I've gotton close), 0-60 in 3.5 seconds (every day). Surprisingly comfortable, handles like an RGV (shreckin great) and cruises at 120 without blinking. That'll do me pal, no need for mods.....this bike does everything I want it to without complaint.
Oh, and as for swapping......gee, let me think about that one for a while. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Swoopy that dog of a ZX-6R you rode musta had a problem cos them things go round corners like they are on rails.
Motorcycle news (UK publication) rated it as the best sports 600cc for road use.
Which as 99.9% of all owners only ever use their bikes on the road not race tracks this is where it really matters.

Aye Cav, I agree with ya. I reckoned the wheels weren't dead straight.....or the tyres weren't balanced or something, maybe shot bearings. It was weird, lean it over and it carried on going straight.
I still dont think a set up ZX-6R would turn with an R6 though. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) oh, and the cannons are overmodelled too.
But the 6R is much more comfy, much bigger cargo space and MUCH better pillion seat (not only shreckin huge but the 6R has grab handles whereas the R6 doesnt). Bet my g/f wishes I'd got a 6R instead of an R6. Um....is everyone following me? I may have gotton confused back there with the Rs and 6s.
Only bike I've never tried but really want to is the GSX-R600R (must be all the Rs).
