SEOUL (Reuters) - A South Korean man who played computer games for 50 hours almost non-stop died of heart failure minutes after finishing his mammoth session in an Internet cafe, authorities said Tuesday.
The 28-year-old man, identified only by his family name Lee, had been playing on-line battle simulation games at the cybercafe in the southeastern city of Taegu, police said.
Lee had planted himself in front of a computer monitor to play on-line games on Aug. 3. He only left the spot over the next three days to go to the toilet and take brief naps on a makeshift bed, they said.
"We presume the cause of death was heart failure stemming from exhaustion," a Taegu provincial police official said by telephone.
Lee had recently quit his job to spend more time playing games, the daily JoongAng Ilbo reported after interviewing former work colleagues and staff at the Internet cafe.
After he failed to return home, Lee's mother asked his former colleagues to find him. When they reached the cafe, Lee said he would finish the game and then go home, the paper reported.
He died a few minutes later, it said.
South Korea, one of the most wired countries in the world, has a large and highly developed game industry.

As a fellow insomniac I had better be more careful playing AH. Kind of reminds me a bit of the movie Leaving Las Vegas.

I've fixed my computer chair so I can only sit non-stop for 2 hours. When I was younger and single, playing Air Warrior, I would spend 16 hours at a session over a weekend sitting at the console. But I had an excuse back then. I worked for Media Vision and needed to test games with the sound cards I brought home from work.

Everything in moderation.
Heck, I get headaches after playing AH for more than 3 hours. Gotta at least take a beer break to rest the eyes.
Edit: P.S. Don't forward this to my wife :D

That is why you should always drink while playing. Eventually you will just pass out drunk.... lol

plus you get to decipher why when you wake up, you are sitting in a wingless 262 infront of the doors to knight HQ.

Dang you beat me to it. Dropped his job to play video games to death.
But I'm pretty sure that the suicidal-computer-games-geek role wouldn't get you a hottie like Liz Shue. Better stick to the bottle...

I always knew beer is good for you! Beer protection - never go online without it.
Best excuse ever. I'll save this one.

Vodka and Wine....Red Wine.
And a headset that has a ear speaker going out every 2 minutes to where you have to slap the left side of the head....5 hours of that you tend to wake up and say "Dammmm How'd my P38 get way over here...Chit is that Daylight?, Okay, today is Saturday right?"
Read this from a book....

chit at 43 if I wanted to I could still do 16 hours. But that would be about my limit
Back in the AW days I once did the 24 hours of Air Warrior.Once
That is, I played nonstop for 24 hours only taking P breaks.
By the end of the 24 though I was lucky to not be shooting at my own countries planes. LOL
