Title: To "I didn't get a check six" whiners
Post by: sullie363 on August 10, 2005, 02:21:16 AM
Besides the whole thing of check sixes being a courtesy not a right, everybody is not watching you all the time.  Mostly people are more concerned with someone they are chasing/avoiding.  If in all those maneuvers they see you, an enemy, and determine that the enemy is flying in your direction then you might get a check six.

The one and only time you should maybe be upset about not getting a call is if people are chasing the guy who ends up shooting you down.  This issue is as old as the game and yet people still ***** and moan about what basically comes down to not watching their own tail.

only time it annoys me is when people are chasing a lone enemy con, they just sit there and watch him sneak up on you without warning you and watch him shoot you down.

IMO that just smacks of ignorance.

I do my best to give people six calls.  Sometimes I can't do it in time.  Sometimes I'm occupied with something else.  At all times, it is never a substitute for the SA of the unlucky victims.  It is their responsibility to guard themselves, not mine.  My six calls are icing on the cake but not the cake itself.

I think it's necessity and courtesy mixed half and half.... you can't really force, or expect anyone to stick to it strictly... but still the more there is the better for everyone.

And ofcourse.. sometimes its plain silly.

Often, I'd be dragging an enemy behind me, flying straight and level, pretending that I didn't see him... and observe how friendlies react.

While most people would give check6 calls, there are some people who's like 400 yards behind the enemy con and still would not give out a check six call.

He's using me as his bait - obviously doesn't care if I survive or not. Empirically, about 20% of the friendlies around are like this. Can't blame him for anything, but he sure won't gain any respect as a fellow AH pilot.

As everyone knows Levi has ESP and eyes in the back of his head. What you don't know is that he mocks me by always giving me a check 6 just as I burst into flames and go careening to earth. Yes, he does it on purpose.

Half the time when Im given a "check 6" I tend to ignore it anyways. I'll glance back to see what it is. If its a screaming I'l just slip a bit out of his way, usually survive and continue the fight. If its a guy that can turn on me, I'll do one of 2 things. Either I'll say "Well this is it Margaret", and try to kill my guy before the guy on my 6 does me, or I'll break off. Depends what mood Im in.

I think alot of times guys are just lazy when they dont 6. I know when I dont thats why I didnt. My Range, and check 6 are both Waaaaaaaaaaaay over on my keyboard, and the reach pulls my finger muscle terribly.

Yes, theres the whiners. No comment on that cause its all been well said.

But theres also the teamwork. Every now and then, the friendlies on range *do* work together, checking each others sixes as well as their own, setting an enemy up for someone else to down him,  engaging different targets, not everyone on the same P40B that happens to be in icon range, ignoring all the typhs and n1ks and spits just to get a single kill (maybe). Its always fun to fight in a group like that. Its also a challenge to fight against a group that works together like that.

Is he using the enemy as bait or is it that he thinks by your flight pattern that you already know hes there?

then there are those whom it is obvious they knew was there because of the jinking juking and rolling their doing to avoid him then get killed and come back complaining about a no check 6.

I try to play mother hen and watch everyons 6 or even more importantly clear everyones 6 as much as I can.
If I dont give it its because either I didnt see it or was too busy trying to keep the guy on my 6 off me to be able to

Certainly more then I get em.
But hey thats just the way the ball bounces sometimes.

What i love most are the ones that call for you like 'get that Spit off my six' while youve just raised gear after takeoff, said spit d200 on his tail.

5 mins later hes fighting another Spit, looks like hes loosing his fight. I dive in to the rescue, get rid of the Spit only to be accused of kill stealing on range.

Oh yeah.

I agree WholeHeartedly.  This is the only time I'll say something to the effect of: "Ah, so when were you gonna six me?"  ome people need to use other's as bait to get "attempted killz", though most of the times I make it a point to kill whoever was on 6.

Gotta agree ....we now have vox and the "check 6" button is an anachronism IMO........

I have never used the button its just too cumbersome when I can call on Vox...........

Plus its so inaccurate.....if some tells me to watch the Spit diving I dont have to do a double look behind when I happen to be tracking him any way.......

But to the point folk demanding check 6 calls is frankly pathetic IMO........

I try to give them but don't expect them.

I think the single most annoying thing for me is players using the ' key to tell me that there is a bandit FORWARD of my 3-9 line. I can tell you there have been numerous instances of players ' keying me when I have a bandit d400 in front of me and I'm trying to set up a shot. It's not that they are trying to steel the kill , they are hundreds of yards away from me. I know they are just trying to be helpfull but use some common sense for crissake.

Oh, and hitting the ' key multiple times isn't going to get my attention any more than hitting it once.

And yes, whining about 6 calls is about as dweebish as it gets.

Thats true. I also hate checking my tail for an enemy thats in front of me.

But sometimes, especially when a little further away, add a little lag on top, its difficult to judge if the con is behind or in front of you. In that case i rather tell you to watch out anyway (ie chk6).

Agreed, but use Range instead of the ' key. A simple "Clifra, watch that spit" is good enough.

Ya  I use a verbal "Watch that spit diving on you!" more than I do the button. So many times Ive been checked and its an enemy in front of me, one thats 4k out and no immediate threat, or Im not the guy they were warning. Ive grown to ignore them. I like when someone yells "Filth watch that spit on ya!" That gets my attention :)

They only time I feel a little cheezed is when i see a guy on me followed by two friendlies, and nobody says boo. Im not expecting them to say anything really..I may or may not have myself, but it kinda irks me a little to be honest. But I certainly wont verbally castrate them on range for it.

Title: Regarding check six.
Post by: shegotya on August 10, 2005, 12:11:05 PM
I have been on AH about seven months. :aok I have seen that this check six thing has been a problem for over ten years back in the AW days when hubby started flying. I know can you believe I converted from wife ack to wing"woman" ... :rofl  Squaddies taught me to give a check six as long as an enemy is around a friendly so he/she is aware ... I am not watching everyone at all times and sometimes just as I see the enemy kill one of my fellow Knights I feel if I were a little faster with the hat switch I could of seen it sooner and they would have had a better chance of survival. I've been accused of watching someone die and not giving them warning because it seemed as if I was there watching the whole time. The worst was when I gave a check six and it was my impression the enemy was diving in and I made my friendly break thinking there was another enemy when really my friendly was on the enemy the whole time. :( That made me check six shy so now when an enemy is in the area I vox to "watch the _____" whatever it may be so that way no one breaks off there kills and everyone is aware of that enemy. :D

He did have an account. And boy did he let out the most foul sentence yesterday toward another person for not giving him a six. The pilot who recieved this simply responded with "we like to listen to you whine."

I saw one guy vulch another in the DA. What for you ask??? For not giving him a chk 6 call about 5 days before hand lol. I don't know whats sadder, that the guy was vulching him in DA or that he made a mental note to remember the name and situation. Happily the vulched guy got up and PWN3D the life outta the little whiner:rofl :aok

I tend to give check 6s as often as I can, up until I hear someone complain about not receiving them.

At that point, I give them check 6s when a bandit is more than 5k away and don't say anything when it gets closer than that.

Our own a** is our responsibility; don't except someone to watch it for you, much less wipe it.

i may have only been playin for 3.5 years, but in the "old" days that was never done.... or at least i never saw it or experienced it.

but in the past year or so using someone as "bait" is something i have noticed with alarming frequency.

i find that very annoying, especially if you are involved in a fight already.

i dont care if they get mad at me, i call them out for that. i personally thing it is BS
