Title: I scored 16, well almost
Post by: DREDIOCK on August 11, 2005, 12:23:15 AM
Grab a scrap peice of paper and pencil.
And DONT CHEAT

The average person only gets 7 right. This is based on U.S. info, so use
all  lobes of your brain. This can be more difficult than it looks -  it
just shows how little most of us really see!

There are 25 questions about things we see every day or have known about
all our lives. How many can you get right? These little simple questions
are harder than you think. It just shows how little we pay attention to
the commonplace things of life.

RULES: Put your thinking caps on. No cheating! No looking around!
No getting out of your chair! No using anything on or in your desk or
computer!

Can you beat 20?? (The average is 7) Write down your answers and check
answers (on the bottom) AFTER completing all the questions.

REMEMBER - NO CHEATING!!! It doesn't matter if you cheat, actually,
because
if you have to cheat, then you don't know the answer, thus, you've already
missed the question. BE HONEST!!! That means no looking at your phone or
anything on your desk.

Then, before you pass this on to your friends, change the number on the
subject line to show how many you got correct. Forward to your friends and
also back to the one who sent it to you. LET'S JUST SEE HOW OBSERVANT YOU
REALLY ARE. - If not, just have fun!

Here we go........................... .............................
1. On a standard traffic light, is the green on the top or bottom?

2. How many states are there in the USA? (Don't laugh, some people don't
know.)

3. In which hand is the Statue of Liberty's torch?

4. What six colors are on the classic Campbell's soup label?

Don't you dare get up to see!)

7. How many matches are in a standard pack?

8. On the United States flag is the top stripe red or white?

9. What is the lowest number on the FM dial? (Don't look at that dial!)

10. Which way does water go down the drain, counter or clockwise?  (Get
out
of the bathroom!)

11. Which way does a "no smoking" sign's slash run?

12. How many channels on a VHF TV dial?

13. On which side of a women's blouse are the buttons?

14. Which way do fans rotate?

15. How many sides does a stop sign have?

16. Do books have even-numbered pages on the right or left side?

17. How many lug nuts are on a standard car wheel?

18. How many sides are there on a standard pencil?

19. Sleepy, Happy, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey, Doc. Who's missing?

20. How many hot dog buns are in a standard package?

21. On which playing card is the card maker's trademark?

22. On which side of a Venetian blind is the cord that adjusts the opening
between the slats?

23. There are 12 buttons on a touch tone phone. What 2 symbols bear no
digits?

The drain one is actually wrong... while there's the coriolis effect, it's so small that it depends on your type of drain, the way water gets to it, or is simply random.

I got 16.

Cyrano is correct about the drain thing.  I wish people would let that belief go.

Anyone under the age of 25 will most likely miss the VHF and radio dial question.

"On a standard traffic light, is the green on the top or bottom?"  Neither, it's on the side of the traffic light.  There is no light on the top or bottom.  :D

there are 6 curves on a paper clip otherwise they got it right...

except that maybe the real answer for lug nuts is variable.  early mustangs were 4 and some pontiacks were 8... early chevy's were 6

I missed the soup, I got red white black and gold, but didn't remember the others.

I missed the FM dial,

I correctly guessed the venitian blinds, but actually the space isn't adjusted, the angle of the slats is adjusted.

23 correct. (the designer of the test got 24*)

*Even though I correctly guessed that the answer the questioner was looking for, (the Ace of Spades), this is an incorrect answer, the answer is all of the cards in the case of Bicycle cards.

Come to think of it, the zero button on the phone has the letters 'o, p, e, r, " next to it so he's wrong about that too.

One more, there are four curves on the standard clip, three are made by bending, one made by drawing the wire.

15,,I knew the radio was a . something but just put 88.

Im glad I knew that of only 1 of 2 merry go rounds that go clockwise, 1 is in my town. Others in Germany I think. So I went with the common counter clockwise :)

holden... the angle AND space is adjusted even tho the axis (centers) of the slats remains the same.  The sapce between the tops of one slat and the top of the next changes...

and, a curve does not have to be 180 degrees.. there are 6 90 degree turns in the paper clip aren't there?

I used 5 lugs on the wheels as an average but probly there have been more 6 and 4 and 8 lug wheels made... even a few 3 lug froggy cars.

so when you guys drive.... you just ignore any curves that are less than 180 degrees?  What is an "S" curve?   How does changing direction 90 degrees using a curve not make it a curve?

Post by: Holden McGroin on August 12, 2005, 09:01:48 AM
Laz,

As the three 180 degree curves are not seperated by any straight stretch, like the short straights between turns 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 at Indy, I consider them each a single 180 degree curve rather than 180 discreet 1 degree curves.

However I believe that the curve of the surface of the cylindrically shaped wire before it is bent into the traditional shape must be considered.

As the slats remain parallel the angle between slats remains consistant. The distance between the slat axis remains consistant, so you are correct.  The angle of the slats is adjusted with respect to the observer.

Either way you look at it there is no question that the question is unquestionably flawed...

Fans spin either direction, depending on wether their push or pulling the air up into the ceiling, etc.

15.

Matches come in boxes of 50-60, never the same number, just as many as fits into a matchbox.

FM radio band in USSR was on lower frequency then in the West, 66-74MHz. When I was a kid I had a tuner that was so old that it had meters on dial. On my FM tuner the lowest frequency is 88 - it's the frequency of Arsenal radio in Moscow, that's why I know it exactly.

No idea about VHF, I have a Toshiba multisystem (PAL/SECAM/NTSC) TV made for Europe, and on old Soviet TVs there were 12 channels tuned manually by a technician, plus unknown number of decimeter wave channels sometimes. Newer transistor TVs from the 80s had 3 bands for each of 6-8 buttons selected by jumpers and then wheels to tune without numbers.

Standard Russian playing cards have a logo on an ace of diamonds. I answered that one right, just remembered my last game of preferance with a Chinese deck bought on a railway station at night.
