Tell me if this is a deliberate part of the browser or some kind of spyware.
Just recently in other forums I see words underlined and linking to "sponsored link" pop ups. Is this spyware? Because if it is I'm unable to find the source.
-
You sure it's not the forums themselves? I've seen plenty of sites that put inline 'sponsored links' based on the content of the messages.
It absolutely COULD be spyware, but it's worth double checking. Paste a link here to an example.
-
Ok here's an example. Link (http://www.sherdog.net/forums/showthread.php?t=281202)
Scroll down to the 11th post.. at the end of his 1st sentence I see "black belt" as an add.
Now that I think about it , it might be the forum since that is about Martial Arts.
-
I am using IE and got the same results.....
It appears to be in the forums itself.....
That will be $21.50, please drive through......
-
Odd. Never seen anything like it. It shows up with IE too, though.
-
Ok good to know. I don't have IE installed anymore so I couldn't compare it before I posted. They are annoying.
-
No popup here with IE, but then my security settings are far from stock.

It's called IntelliTXT.

Who is the poster above you Sandman?
I see an empty space. Is the post deleted or is it some sort of security freak with stealth settings on his com-puter?

Toms Hardware does that with alot of their reviews. You move the mouse pointer over the link and it pops up a little text box with some kind of info from a sponsor.

Hey Sunking... the link is messed up now, but I've seen what you're talking about before, and the solution is easy cheesey! If you haven't already done so, Download the AdBlock extension for Firefox -
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=10&application=firefox
Once that's downloaded, you can totally block content from being loaded by the browser based on URLs, and you can use wildcards too. Find out what the source is for the ad links (adblock will tell you every link on the page), and block it. Once you do that, the text will be normal with no hyperlink.
Perhaps THE best extension for Firefox I've installed yet! The longer I've been using it, the less and less ad crap I have to look at, as more and more advertising sites get blocked.

There was a piece of adware crap that did it too, but this sounds like the web page-based ad garbage.
