why should it be any different in poker?
last night, my father was in town, and at my sisters house we played texas hold 'em.
7 at the table, we are playing with 5¢ 10¢ 25¢ 50¢ $1 chips. small blind is 5¢ big is 10¢.
holding an ace of diamonds, and a 4 clubs, i see the flop. 3 diamonds, one being a 4. i got 2 reasons to stay alive.
slow play getting the pot up to 50¢ bets, then on the turn i get the 5th diamond. i slow play it to the river, then drop the $1 bet. with 4 diamonds showing, i know at least 1 of the others in (3 way action) has the flush too. turns out both others did, but i had the ace :D :aok
i am the chip leader on the table, and doing allrighty.
within 1/2 hour i get beat on another flush, this time i got the king, but the other person has the ace. what are the odds of an ace flush 2 times in 20 minutes? lost a ton on that hand.
lose 3 10's to 3 queens next hand (1 queen showning from the flop)
lose a 7's and 2''s boat to 2's and kings boat next hand to go out of game (1 king showing on the river)

3 hands in a row i lose with: king high flush, 3 tens, and a full house.

I know what you mean...I used to have to be very careful at the horse races and bet very little as they would have to wait for the horse I bet on to finnish before they could start the next race.
I suck at gambling.

I haven't played much poker in years. I bet on the horses though and make money. As I type this I have a bet running on Rudi's pet in the 7:30 at Catterick.
I was watching the British open poker championship is being shown on TV lately. It seems to me that is is more about psyching out the opponent half the time than actually having the best hand. As often as not the they win or lose on only the first two cards. Last night the American champ suckered in an opponent by betting as if he had a bad hand and took the pot when the guy went all in. Brilliant. To make it better he was wearing a pair of glasses with a lizard eyes hologram which blinked every time he moved.
Poker is not just about luck.
Result just in: Rudi's pet lost.

my dad's fiance plays like 3 times a week, and she even said it was the most freak bad luck she has ever seen :( i bet everything "right"
