Title: Guess what planes they are
Post by: Gianlupo on August 17, 2005, 11:57:29 AM
Ok, my turn to test your almighty knowledge of airplanes... I think that some of you (namely the omniscient Widewing) may find them easy... well, in that case, forgive me, I'm just an initiate in the holy cult of Airplanes Worshippers :D

1 st is  the ugly son of a G55 and a stuka ?

2nd is probably a Caproni CA 311 (I'm not sure)

3rd is  Campini-Caproni CC-2 (and I'm sure :))

Lol! for the first (anyway, the father is not a G.55), the third is right, and the second.... well, maybe I'll tell you later, let's see if someone guess what number 1 and 2 are!

Good job, anyway, Straffo! :aok

Good try Frank, but look at the markings... it's italian! ;)

Maybe you need a little help on the first one... it's the only exemplar built of a modification for one of the mass produced italian fighters.... well, I said almost all... the only thing missing is the name!

First one looks like the Italian thingy they put a Stuka engine in for concept testing. Werent the Italians testing several german engines as power plants for their fighters?

Well, Mustaine got it.

It's a C.202, precisely the only C.202D built. The only difference was the position of the coolant radiator, put directly under the engine, instead of under the cockpit.

bustr, the italians used the Daimler Benz DB601 and DB605 to power their "second" and "third" generation fighters, like the C.202 (DB601) and C.205 (DB605) we have in the game. AFAIK, the Junker Jumo 211, the Stuka engine, wasn't used, they went immediately for the engine that equipped the Bf 109.

Straffo, you guessed right... number 2 is a Caproni, Ca.311, a reconnaissance plane.

Furball, you're wrong: they are Whitesnow, the seven dwarves, and a beatiful, red, poisoned apple! :D

Here's a bigger photo of the MC.202d and a side view of the Caproni 311.

The only exemplar of CR.42 modified with a Daimler Benz DB601.... yes, they tried even this thing... biplane was hard to die in Italy!

EDIT: with a big imagination effort, they called it CR.42DB...
