Hi HT,
How about adding the "Formation" option to the C47? Unless they were covert ops, few parachute drop missions were flown by lone C47s.
The advantage of being able to drop 3 sticks of lemmings or 3 resupplys would be more than balanced out by the lack of armament and inability to maneuver, and general "gotta git me some" tastiness to fighters of 3 C47s flying together.

Yeah that'd be cool but where you'd run into problems is when there's so many para's in the air at the same time it tends to completely hork up the whole arena. Its not fun for anyone logged on when that happens trust me.

great idea...
to solve the "to many troops" thing, you could have each goon only carry 5 troops when in a formation. that way 15 troops drop, still a few more than needed, but not a "horde" of 30 troops
it would also eliminate a few "gamey" aspects, like the loop-d-loop drop, the skid land up next to the town, and stuff like that,
-
I never quite liked the idea that it took only 10 troops to capture..........
Seemed to me that 20 odd would be a minimum.
However troops seem to drain FR if used in abundance.
However I wish they did not carry icons either........ the chutes are clearly visible.
for me Gv fields would have very large barrack groups like a garrison...............
We get trucks that can carry larger numbers of infantry......
You would need more than 2 goon drops........to capture (default 30)
As you kill barracks so the number required to capture decreases
Goons could be killed whilst in the C 47.............
C47's would get an F6 position looking out the jump door and (like other "level" bombers{I wish}) they could only be dropped from F6.
If you want to fly goons in formation then you place a perk point deposit.

Not that I fly goons much, but this is a pretty cool idea, imo.

Great idea should be implemented...Immediately!

AH gooning IS covert ops.
Flying into enemy territory.. dropping 10 people off, who need to sneak into a maproom while it is undefended, with the town fully down...
-
Great idea. Let's make this happen.

I wouldn't mind. 3 easy kills are always better than 1. :devil

Agreed on the first part very interesting take on dropping troops.
Disagree on the second I would only have formations if we were to get the LI-2 & in it's bomber configuration only.

Holy necro bump Batman! From 2005. Seriously?
Check my reply in this thread. Bad idea for that reason alone.

Your right I missed that.

I was well aware of it being a post in 05 when I made mine. :D That being said, Drano, how is it really that much different than it is now? The vGuys are a perfect example of this, bringing numerous goons to a base. No, this isn't meant as an attack in anyway, shape or form towards them. Wanted to make that clear before I continued. In truth, this is actually a good idea if you think about it. Their base takes show this all to well. :aok But at the same time, I do see how it can be a problem, as you mentioned in your 1st post as numerous formation of goons, each dropping 15 troops per set would lead to a slight problem. It's been mentioned before though, that if the number of troops carried were to be increased, HiTech would have to increase the number required to take a base. This alone would actually defeat the purpose of the formation of goons with each goon only carrying 5 troops each. It would be a requirement to bring 3-4 sets just to insure success since it so bloody well easy to knock a C-47 out of the sky. The Li-2 wouldn't be too hard to code accordingly, I'd hope. Anytime troops are selected, formations are auto-disabled. You would have to make sure formations were set when you took bombs though. :)
However, maybe for scenario/snapshot/ava use it has merit? If it were coded to where the admins were the only ones to turn it on/off in the arena settings? I remember one time when the AvA Staff put out a challenge, and I got the Claim Jumpers to accept it. :D That was a blast. :x We could've done a para drop with formations of C-47's during that time. While it would've likely just resulted in more than a few easy kills for the AvA Group, it would've been an awesome sight to see 3-5 sets of C-47's coming in to make a drop. And we'd be crazy enough to try it. :D :aok

The idea of it isn't a problem. The problem, unless something in the game has changed, is that when we did something like this before where a large number of players took single c-47s and dropped the paras it choked the server in that arena requiring a reset. Not cool or fun for anyone there at the time.
-
I do not think we have that problem now, seeing as they have upgraded their server hardware since then. It would probably take a bit more than what you have seen to bring down the server now. It's only a guess on my part though. Only the HTC Crew can come on and tell us one way or the other. :aok

HTC has said that if they ever increased the number of troops a single player could bring to a capture they would also increase the number of troops NEEDED to capture to match.

Good Idea, I'd like to see it --- Turky shoot! :lol
