ATI released new catalyst drivers (5.8)
Bad news /rumour is that it is the last version available without Control Center.
-
Correct me if Im wrong, but isnt the control center the thing that Skuzzy says NOT to install anyways?

yep!
And if rumours are true, in future you MUST install it if you want updated drivers.

Not good if ATI will no longer provide the ATI Control Panel after this release. I have not been able to confirm this yet. If anyone can, please post. Thank you.

yup, CP is gone, CCC is the only way from now on
i hated the CCC, it never worked right, and was a resource hog.
the CP worked, setting AF or AA to x2, or whatever and it WORKED.
however since changing to nvidia ive had no end of troubles... some, user error i agree, but i cant even get aces to load right now!!!
I really REALLY miss ATI's VPU recover. When Nvidia hardware crashes, you have to pull out the plug.....which is just stupid.:(

Back to Nvidia everyone. Anyone with enough clout to speak to ATI?
Skuzzy, surely you must have enough clout in the industry to know someone who knows someone who knows someone at ATI to tell them to please not do this.

I asked source of this rumour from a finnish journalist and he sent me this link:
