I learned today that my wife's great uncle, Capt. Lowell K. Breuland was awarded 10.5 kills in a p51d over Europe. I am away from home this weekend so dont know if anyone has possibly skinned his plane. It was called the "grim reaper". If it has not been skinned, could one of you apply your extraordinary talents and possibly work it up for submission? Pictures of his plane are available on various websites. In fact there is an actual flying p51 in california modeled after his plane. Thanks to anyone who takes it up.

Looks like the colors and blacks might be too de-saturated or too transparent. The tones in the real picture are a lot more intense.

the plane in the pic is a complete farce when it comes to real ww2 planes.. a shiney p51 wouldnt last 2 mins in the british weather never mind over enemy teritory..
-
Sorry for not being clear, but I was just talking about the purple circle on the tail, the blue of the nose, and the black of the stripes. Really, you could look at any plane pics to see what I'm talking about: most of the colors are really intense in real life. thebest1's plane looks great, but I think that it doesn't have enough contrast to it.

Excellent job there best! Only thing I see missing are the kill markings under the canopy. I dont know if that is possible. He had 12.5 kill in wwII. (picked up another 2 in korea). Thanks for your efforts.

yeah im still making those, its possible.

I COMPLETLY DIS-AGREE ABOUT THE COLOUR INTESNSITY(OOPS CAPS)a plane allocated to a front line fighter base (especially in uk) would be dull, well worn and covered in cheese. all the planes you see at airshows have been cleaned and polished to perfection...
make 'em look like war planes , not pimp mobiles

Good point selector :)

Ok, let me try this saturation thing again:

I dunno what else to say other than that they are pretty darn saturated...

All paintjobs start out new, it's not like there's an insta-fade
machine out there. Admittedly I didn't serve in wartime, but we
repainted our Phantoms on a regular basis.

Update:
-Fixed up the stripes
-Fixed up the weathering
-Created better scratches on the antiglare patch
-Lined up the colors more
-And some other stuff i cant remember

Best, does your technique involve cutting back on the opacity of the white parts so that the panel and rivet detail show through?
-
no the rivits and panals lines are over the white stripes...... why you ask?
-
Only because the white looks very grey. Which is fine. If you were doing it that way, I was going to offer a better way.
Skin looks great, btw.
-
Guynoir,
With respect to skin color saturations, intensities, and contrasts, it is more important that they look good relative to the AH terrain, than relative to an image from a book. Perceived accuracy of color is very context-dependent, and varies with ambient lighting, distance from object, etc.
(No experience with skins, but 45 years experience with scale models).

Check me out ma, I'm suckin' a marker! :D
I feel bad for whoever sat there and polished that thing. Some dweeb will always come by and spill coffee on it.
