How about some cities and player controlled infantry.
I know its WW2OL'ish but never know, could work.
-
I think the terrain would need massive amounts of coading
before infantry could be used. Not to diminish the "cool" factor,
because I think it would be a blast, but as it is now a leaf on a
tree can stop an 88mm armor piercing round pals> with 100% certainty.
All the troops would have to do is hide in a building without
standing in front of a window or door and they'd be impervious.
Blast damage from HE weapons would definitely be need to
be adjusted as well. That would include the manportable AT
weapons too. Assuming that infantry would have a more
important role than providing extra grease to tank treads ;)

I dont think we will ever have infantry there is just no reason for it and the lag that this will cause will be killer.

Despite the coading and programming nightmare, implementing something like this would also tax customer's computers of their resources, considering many people are probably using the average joe computer anyways. I'm all for adding new fresh content to AH, but HTC also must consider what kind of computer their customers have and if they are able to handle the additional workload of the game.

Yeah I would agree with this. I'm sure there are some pretty slow computers still out there adding something like this would kill thier game experience. 2 seconds of play then 5 seconds of frozen screen

Hitech has stated before that he does want to implement a ground war aspect of the game sometime in the future involving infantry.

Okay, from another thread:
I think that you and HTC are dead on. We are so short attentioned. My solution to HTC has been to make carrying troops MORE FUN.
I love what they did with the troop animation. Carry that a step farther, and let them shoot or blow things up. Make C47s a formation and up the amount of troops. Allow your chute running into a maproom to count toward captures (those things are hard to see and you can dip and hide once on the ground). Have a Medic option for the M3 that is able to rescue "wounded" paratroopers and earn perks.
FUN ^^^^^^
I am not sure how any of the above would require massive framerates. Ran a 4th of July memorial flight with 30+ goons and more than 300 troops in the air simultaneously with no problems. During the much anticipated Tour of Duty version HTC developed AI planes that work in offline missions. I suggest that if they are able to have planes fly around in a wide open sky and know where to go and what to shoot, that having AI troops blowing buildings up is not that far fetched. Add to that the ability if you get shot down to pull out that .45 and pop a few bad guys or run into the maproom and count in the capture, and you have added the infantry aspect in a way that is not WW2OL and totally AH2(on the ground).
Also, from this same thought in another thread:
Make the game more dimensional, but how?
Again, I beg for a more active roll of troops. Let them have a defensive roll also. For example, the attacking forces release troops that actually fight their way to the maproom or whatever, destroying / conquering village buildings on the way. Meanwhile the defender's troop carriers arrive with fresh infantry to hold off the advance through the village. Animation could be elementary, just troops running or vanishing into dust (the way they do now Buffy style when they get "staked") along with buildings exploding as the attackers advance.

Cool, Night of the Living Dead Thread :D

LOL Ok Im busted I'm just bored at work figured a necrobomb was in order expecially since it was just discussed last week.
-
What was just discussed last week. Do you care to elaborate? Or did something make sense and was counter to your point (not you Nathan) and you decide it is no longer worth discussion. Sorry, if I missed another discussion on infantry. I feel it is exactly what would give the game a shot in the arm. Certainly, horde missions are not doing that great for subscriptions (period).

OH Im just stirring the pot bringing up a very old topic that I'm sure has been discussed many many times. I would Like to see some infantry/fps added to the game but adding infantry will tax computers more to the point of possibly making the game unplayable on older machines. It would tax computers more due to the additional information being recieve d by a guy on the ground and the graphic are going to nee d an update. Look at the poor graphics on the ground of WW2OL and then at the even poorer graphics of AH. The hedge rows of AH are solid walls while in WW2 ol you can shoot throw or even run through the bushes whil AH it you hit a busgh with a tank the physics are already screwy what would thos effect be on a GI toon running around? You would need more animations for the infantry arms mmoving legs moving

We already have chutes running around on the ground, what I am suggesting takes existing code and ponders the AI enhancemets from offline practice applied to troopers. True that most likely requires more coding (the AI portion) than it would seem, but at least the team has existing reference code. In its simplest form all the AI troops need to do is contain a proximity "fuse" to do damage to enemy structures, expire when damage is done, and run towards the maproom when it has no other target.
Nevermind, I admit, even the simplest form would take a bunch of new code. Framerate, however should not be any more of a problem than any horde.

Holy crap, that was back when I was playing WW2OL.
I dont even remember posting it, thought I had done it in a not-so-good state of mind last night

ok so it owuld be just like ten ppl in chutes but with a tommy gun or grand and not a big red CHUTE over ther heads.... i mean chutess dont cause lag
