i have recently downloaded the demo of this game for me and one of my family members. my brother-in-law is a nut for WW2 aircraft history. the questions here are as follows....1. do you buy this game or just subscribe to usage? 2. where is a good place to find out how to play this game in great detail? (havent searched the archives) 3. whats the top speed on a p-51?..(he could only get it to about 250 with gear up and max power....4. im not sure we are flying the planes properly because it seems like they all fly a little bit on the slow side. 5. the stall warning horn comes on all the time with corrections of the plane (is this normal?)...TY for all your help...MON....UT2004 rules...heheheeh..:)
-
1. Free software and HTC owned servers cost $14.95US per month. H2H arenas are free.
2. http://www.netaces.org/
3. http://www.hitechcreations.com/ahhelp/models/index.html
4. Your problem could be that your joysticks aren't properly calibrated ingame. On the clipboard (ESC toggles) click on Setup>Controls>Joystick>Calibrate joystick
5. These are prop planes; not supersonic jet aircraft. "Energy" is a must-have. Higher speeds (before the plane crumples or compresses) mean more control response while lower speeds mean that you'll have a rougher time moving and be causing more drag to turn. Very very smooth joystick inputs are crucial to not stalling thanks to the prop's thrust-to-weight ratio.
Go online to the Training Arena, bring up the clipboard after a couple seconds, then open the Roster. Look for people in the Aces High Trainer Corps squad; they'll help you with anything you need. Sometimes, other friendly players are there to help too. Moree than likily, a Trainer will reply to this thread.

well, i dont think that the demo will let me play online. what i was hoping for (may not be able to get it) is to try this game out and experience as much of it as i can before i commit to subscribing. i may not have the right joystick for this or not, im not sure. i will try the in game calibration and see what that does. we are both noobs to this intricate of a game. i play online games, but most of them are like shoot em up games. not technically involved like this one. the debate with my brother-in-law is about weather or not he likes this game enough to get a new pc and get high speed internet. i am trying let him have the best experience he can on the demo so he makes a sound and non-biased decision. i would like to play online if i could and do the training stuff, but i dont know how to do that either...TY for your help and please feel free to reply if you know of anything that will help here...Master

The "DEMO" is fully functional....
Not only can you fly online during your two week trial....but online 8 player "head to head" play is free forever.
Please take advantage of your two weeks and visit the TA as much as possible. Bunch of great guys who can really help shorten the learning curve.
-
The game is absolutely free for the first 2 weeks. You get access to ALL the arenas, events, etc. for these 2 weeks. To do this, you have to set up an account with your email/address/etc. but you DON'T have to give a credit card number right away.
I believe you set up the account when you fire up Aces High II, but I'm not sure exactly how (been awhile :) ). I would imagine that by selecting "Play Online" when you don't have an account, they'd give you an option to create one.
If you wish to continue having access to all the arenas after the first two weeks, you'll have to provide a credit card number or mail a check/money order to HTC.
OTOH, just by starting an account you will always have unlimited acces to the free H2H rooms, but there are only 8 people allowed in each room max.
I seriously think that you and your friend will find that you enjoy this game very much and will find it worth 50 cents per day to play. This game offers many different gems, including:
- A massive "Main Arena" with hundreds of players on at all times (in the US wee hours there aren't quite as many);
- A historic arena (the "Combat Theatre") with historic plane matchups. This arena doesn't usually have too many people in it, but you'll find when it gets to 6 or more people it is usually very fun as well;
- A "Training Arena" where you can practice things and meet up with a trainer or helper to get you started and eased into the learning curve;
- A "Dueling Arena" where you can test your 1v1 skills against another player (also a great place to learn a thing or two); and
- A "Special Events Arena" where different special events are held. These include but are not limited to, historical multi-day scenarios, the free for all extravaganza known as "King of the Hill" (again, another great place to learn things), one-night "Snapshots" (somewhat like a mini-scenario) and even Air Races!
Furthermore, HTC is currently working on a new arena, the "Tour of Duty" arena, which can be read about in it's own "TOD" forum (down the page on the forums list). Although this will probably not be ready for awhile, they have been working on it very hard and (from the looks of the forum) it is starting to take shape. If you and your friend finds the Main Arena's crazy plane matchups uninteresting, and the Combat Theatre's roster count too low, you may very well enjoy TOD when it comes out. In the meanwhile, the other arenas will surely provide tons of practice for you two to prepare for it!
I hope to see you two online soon! You've already found the Help Forum, so your learning curve should be lessened :)

go to http://www.hitechcreations.com and download the game, it comes with a 2 week free trial period before you have to pay any money or even setup for payment... IT WILL LET U PLAY ONLINE with the free two weeks... don't worry you will become addicted like the rest of us... all the planes and tanks, boats for the most part are modelled very accurately from real life, the way they handle, turn, climb, dive, accelerate etc. is dependant on the plane and are modelled very accurately from real life... if you were only able to get that P51 up to 250mph then you were probably on the deck ( under 1,000' altitude) the P51 does not perform very well until you get to 12K then it is one of the fastest and nimblest aircraft in the game, after 12K there is a dead band for the mustang until you get to 23K where it is home... this plane was meant to be a high alt bomber escort which means that is was designed to perform best at higher altitudes... If you take a plane like the La7 for example, it is the fastest prop plane under 10K, under 10K that pup will scream, but go over 10K and it goes to crap, handling performance everything... if your stall horn is going off that means you are approching a stall, when I 1st started playing I was "jerking the stick" around way too much and could never build up enough speed and I thought the same thing... but after playing for a while I have gotton relaxed and smooth with the stick and that was my problem... remember most planes can't do a loop if there only doing 90mph with no flaps... I suggest that you play the 1st two weeks, YOU WILL become addicted lol like us... get a trainer, theres so many guys that play this game that are actually there just to help out the newer guys, heck and the vets too... If you just start playing without learning any basic ACM's (air combat maneuvers ) and how to use them effectively you'll be toast and get frustrated... it also takes a long time to learn how to shoot properly in this game and a trainer will help you out there too... another good idea is to go to this link and review all the planes, i printed each planes page out seperately and made a notebook with it that I can put notes in, like if I stall fight ( verticle fight where both planes are stalling out almost ) and I make a particular move that works I may note that on that planes page after I land or get shotdown whatever--- http://members.shaw.ca/soda_p/models.htm---- this is a neccessity you must know about the planes, how they handle, what speeds there capable of etc... The main thing is this game takes a long long time to get good at... most of the vets that are awesome have been playing games like this for 5 or 6 years, don't get frustrated, just hook up with a trainer and get your learn on... if I could do one thing different when I 1st started it would be to go back and get a trainers help... i can't praise that enough... get a trainer, it makes the learning curve way less steep than it already is... heck some of the trainers hardly ever play in the MA (main arena) any more, they would rather teach new ppl, they get more enjoyment outta that than they do actually playing... another thing that will happen when your new... you will be asked by 100 diff ppl to join there squad... if you want to thats fine, best advice I can give is not too at 1st... learn the game, figure out what you wanna do in the game, ie fly bombers, fighters, take bases, furball ( dogfight where lots of planes are involved) and then join a squad that has similar interests, don't make my mistake and join 1 just for the heck of it... because if you leave or when you leave you will catch an endless amount of crap talk from them mostly on channel 200 ( channel where all sides can view your text ) when I 1st started I joined a squad that did nothin but bomb runs and take bases, theres nothing wrong with that if its your cup of tea, but I wanted to fly fighters and learn to excel in 1 particular aircraft P38J, so I eventually switched to a diff squad that flys those, and for the most part never do bomb runs or base take, we just dogfight which is what I like to do, but I still catch crap from the old squad about being a traitor and yada yada, i could care less myself about what they say , just trying to warn you before hand so you don't make same mistakes as I did... if you need any help or anything this is a good place to post it... if for some reason theres something that you dont want to post here you can email me at iceman24@netzero.com ... i'm by no means a trainer, but know a few and I'm sure most of them will reply to this post offering assistance... i cant stress how important the trainer and learning the AC ( aircraft are ) THERE IS ALSO A TON OF INFO AS WELL AS CLIPS AND VIDEOS on our squad website http://479th.jasminemarie.com/ all the clips and films are mostly P38 films but can be applied to most planes in the game, theres lots of great articles in the PJ university section that start out for novices and work there way up to more advanced stuff... most importantly HAVE FUN, thats all that matters bro
-
wow didnt realize i wrote so much... lol i'm bored at work and can't play because of stupid firewall lol
-
they should save this post and re-title it "must read" for newbies... lots of good info in here for newer guys
-
very helpful guys thanks...couple more questions then i will see you all on tonight...(look for the noob that cant fly very well...lol)
1. do you guys use teamspeak or ventrilo? my experiences in training are better if some one is actullay live talking to me instead of typing what i need to do
2. i have two weeks on this game obviously. does this mean two weeks from the time that i downloaded it, or is this two weeks of play time??....thanks again....

very helpful guys thanks...couple more questions then i will see you all on tonight...(look for the noob that cant fly very well...lol)
By all means, once you've set up your account and figured out your online "name", let us know what it is in here :)
1. do you guys use teamspeak or ventrilo? my experiences in training are better if some one is actullay live talking to me instead of typing what i need to do
The game has a built in voice communicator, "VOX". You can speak on a specific, tunable channel by pressing and holding the " T " Key (but only people tuned to the same channel can hear you), or you can speak to everyone within a certain range, regardless of the channel they've tuned, with the " F12 " Key.
2. i have two weeks on this game obviously. does this mean two weeks from the time that i downloaded it, or is this two weeks of play time??....thanks again....
That is two week from the time you've registered your new account. It is not based on "ingame hours".
S!
-
2 weeks from the day you download I BELIEVE please correct if I am wrong... About being able to to communicate yes, we have a very cool way of talking with mics / headsets on here... if you are in a squad then your squad will have its own channel to talk on, nobody else can here ya'll, and there is the range talk where you can speak to anyone friendly that is within range of you, usually 6K... I have all my keys remapped to my stick/s, I'm pretty sure its F12 you hold down for range talk and T ( maybe ) to talk on a private or squad channel, also there is text, with a bunch of different options, you can text your whole country, range, squad, or if you put in a players name you can text to them only, also 75% of the players are tuned to a channell 200 where everybody can see what you write, all three countries, usually just a bunch of trash talkin but every now and then something worth noting, some have it on some don't, I get a kick outta reading all the crap talk so I leave it on, also have friends on all three sides so I just talk with them on that channel
-
AH has it's own vox, no need to use any other. I believe the 2 weeks is from when you register. LOL Vudak and Iceman your too fast for me
-
thanks so much fellas...i will be online tonight with a screen name that has masterofnone in it somehow...or MON...thanks again...

...(look for the noob that cant fly very well...lol)
theres tons of newbies out there, the main thing is your already better than most because you stopped in and got advice 1st, and if you read up on the AC (aircraft) and hook up with a trainer then you will be whoopin up on them as well as others... you sound really motivated which is awesome, will make the curve less steep, main thing is read up on the aircraft and train... every time i get on I will play in the MA ( main arena )a while and then head over to the DA (dueling arena) or TA( training arena ) just to brush up or work on something that I messed up... 1 thing about the game is that when you are in the MA is is way diff then goin head to head with just 1 guy, you generally start out fighting one then his buddies or your buddies jump in and it gets more difficult... In the MA everybody is pretty much in a squad or has friends that are on the way, so if you see a lone AC( aircraft ) be wary cause his friends either landed and are on way back or there over the clouds waiting for the word to dive down on ya.... until you figure out what type of fighting style you want, if u want to turn fight, or b&z/energy fight since B&Z is basically a form of energy fighting ( boom and zoom, where a player has significant Energy in the form of altitude or speed and just dives down on you trys for a shot then zooms back up and outta your range)... i recommend newer players fly either a spit 9 or a KI84, these planes are great turners and can also ebergy fight very well... but I would save the pony's and corsairs until you get a better feel of ACM's(air combat maneuvers ) and flying... planes like the pony corsair, P38's, there a lil harder to get down and master than some of the others, if your new and not familiar with there strengths/weaknesses you dead meat in them... spit 9 is a very good plane to start with, I still fly it and think its 1 of the best in the game, of coarse i'm a 38 junkie lol.. Pony's and corsairs are excellent planes just take longer to figure out the tricks to em then some of the others, i guess we'll say there a lil more advanced
-
when i tried to make an online account last week, it asked me for a coupon number or somethin....any clue what that is???..
-
WelldoneIceman
veryinformative!
-
TY sir - I just remember how lost i was when I 1st started out so I feel for the new guys, and without the new guys then our game would get boring, imagine only flyin with 20 people on that would suck, its when 5 or 6 hundred are on that it gets fun lol
I have never heard anything about a coupon, don't remember seeing it when I downloaded it, but it was a while back maybe something new, that I haven't seen yet... I'm sure someone else has seen it and will reply bro
-
is it asking for a CPID, that means its wanting to know what you want your callsign or ingame name to be... like mines Iceman24, make something up u like, if u ever want to change it, its not hard, you lose your score for the month once you change names but it can still be done if you put something you don't like... Try not and put something like 88726635 as your callsign, cause when someone gets on the radio tring to tell you theres a bogey on your 6 there gonna have to read out all those #'s and will eventually quit tellin him because they get tired of callin out those #'s, its allot easier for someone to go,"hey Ice check your 6, or hey Ice that bogey is comin back around you need help... than it is to say eight eight seven two six six three five check 6... see what i mean.... you can put #'s in your name, just make sure you pick something that everybody can easily read quickly and translate onto radio quickly... theres nothin worse than seeing a bogey come up on some guy that just wrote saijdfdiews as a name, and you gotta stop thinkin about the bogey behind on top of below whatever and try and say his name over the radio... I think everyone should take that into account, cause theres lots of ppl playing that have funked up names that nobody can say lol all you guys can hope for is a programmed check six ( there is a feature in the game called check 6, and I have no clue what its default key was, I have it on my stick now, but if you see a bogey comin up on someone you just push that button and a lil box will pop up around his name, if you push it once a computer voice will come up on his end saying check six and he'll get a white message on his screen saying your name and check six, if you push it more than once it will switch planes, in case you are flying with more than 2 ppl, I highly recommend you program that to your joystick if you can, makes it easier to do, also never rely on a check 6 from anyone, always be lookin around, its called SA or situational awareness and you can never have enough of it, its all about keeping track of all the bogeys, where there headed, what alt there at, how fast they are going, and then the same to you, how fast your goin, how far away they are, how much alt do u have.... good pilots can keep track with 5 or 6 bad guys circling and loopin around em
-
i think it said something about a coupon..not sure though...i will check when i get on tonight.....
-
there are some coupons I guess, but if you don't have one don't put it in.
Its been awhile, but when you sign up, it asks you to make an account with a login name and your email address. Once you go thru that it will send you the "password" for your account, so check your email before you tryu to log back in.... its ussally a 6 or 7 digit number.
Once you have your password, log in again and I think it will ask you to pick a CPID, or ID that everyone will see you IDed as... this is not the same as the login ID, but will be the name your known by in the game....choose wisely :)
Cya in the air ! and good luck !
oh BTW, I don't think anyone answered your question... the P51 run upwards of 475-500 mph ;) We call them RUNstangs

LOL ya know, I was just thinking that :)
I can think of a few reasons why you might not be going as fast:
1. You didn't raise the gear (G)
2. You deployed flaps for takeoff, and didn't raise them (they usually raise automatically in a dive or whatnot, but I wouldn't be suprised if in level flight they prevented your speed from getting to a point where they'd auto-retract).
3. You aren't using full throttle.
4. You're loaded to the gills with drop tanks, bombs, rockets, and fuel.
5. Any combination of these.
-
tried all those things.....gear was up...flaps were up and i tried flying with just the machine guns....but im not sure what it was....could be cause i was flying too low or my joystick is what i have read so far...we shall see tonight......any of you are welcome to blow me up if that will help yall out...:)
-
...next question...how do i take off ?
this a troll or what ?
-
The airspeed you see on the gauge is the indicated airspeed (IAS), this is not the same as true Airspeed (TAS).
Indicated airspeed is based on the pressure exerted in the pitot tube. The higher you go, the lower IAS is as compared to TAS. I'd have to whip out my E6B to check, but 250IAS at 20,000 feet may be as much as 400TAS.
IAS is more useful when flying, however, since your aircraft reacts the same (basically) at a given IAS at 100 ft as it does at 20,000 feet. TAS is simply not a good indicator of how your aircraft will respond, IAS is.
-
In case this wasn't already mentioned, the p51s currently have a bug where only IAS (should be white needle) is shown, while the higher TAS (should be red needle) is missing. The difference between IAS and TAS increases with altitude. The speed you read about in reference books is usually TAS.
HTC will probably fix this next patch.

Open clibboard and click on E6B. Both airspeeds (ind and true) are listed there.

vudak thanks for your help in the training arena last night, i really appreciate it. i learned how to fly faster anyway....still crash like crazy cause i dont have the feel for the planes yet (and i turned the stall horn off cause it was annoying me...lol) but we shall see how it goes in the next few days or so.....thanks again MOFNONE

No problem, MOFNONE :)
Like I said though, do try and hook up with a regular trainer. You'll find them far more qualified and you won't find them stuttering through answers with my oft-used "errs... ums.... lemme check real quicks.... and not sures...." :)
Of course if you have any questions feel free to ask the community at large, as you can see, lots of people remember what it was like to be in your position :D
Also, if you need someone to try out the stuff you learned from your trainers on, just give me a holler. I'm usually tuned 200 (noticed you're Bish, I'm Rook at the moment).
Anyway, yeah that stall horn does get annoying, but it's, well, pretty necessary, at least in some form... You can go to the Custom Sounds & Skins forum and try out the different sound packs if you like... They have different stallhorns that you might like more. I personally use Waffle's, others use Mitsu's, both are excellent!
!
-
yeah bud as you get better you'll need that stall horn, you'll start to notice that it actually gets louder the closer you come to a stall and in this game you need any type of help or buzzers you can get, you want to go into preferances tho and disable the stall limiter this is not the same... the only slot I have checked usually is my auto takeoff which I will turn off for carrier takeoffs by just moving my joystick before I launch , turn your tracers off it will help with your aiming, it will make your brain start to memorize shot patterns and angles quicker, also since your not seeing your bullets stream it will make you actually aim instead of "spray and pray" (where you actually hold down trigger and try and move the bullet stream) only fire 1/2 to 1 second bursts... its also very helpful because your enemy cant see you shooting at him until you hit him lol... I fly the P38J allot and can make shots at 1K if i'm dead 6 on someone because of the nose mounted guns/cannon... usually at that range the plane I'm shooting at hasn't even started evasives and thinks that I won't get a good shot until I get to around 400-500 area, if my tracers were on and I shot at him at 1k and missed he would see my bullets go by and start evasives making him much harder to hit, an enemy that doesn't know your shooting is much easier to hit :) And keep hookin up with ppl like Vudak they can teach you allot of cool stuff, I'm Bishop also, I will be on tonight if you wanna do some winging, got xtreme air racing league tonight in SEA ( special event arena ) but before and after that I should be on if you wanna work over some nitwits and rookies ( knights and rooks )
-
i dont want to start a new thread, so i will just put this here. i have a question about diving....i will get up about 6,000 ft. or so and be flying around (trying to get some practice) and go into a dive. to my dismay, i will go into a spin or roll or something. sometimes i can pull out of it if i nose the plane down and pick up more airspeed to work out of it. more often that not, i crash and burn...lol....any suggestions??...TY MOFNONE
-
Any sudden disturbance of lift or air flow over the wings can cause a stall or flat spin. Were you in a P-51 by chance? To recover from it simply let your joystick settle to it's normal upright position, chop throttle and apply rudder input - opposite of the spin i.e. left spin = right rudder. Once the spinning stops, GENTLY pull back on the stick and apply throttle.
The other issue you may encounter is compression. If you gain more speed than the AC can handle, you simple lose all control. In this case chop throttle and input the X (auto-pilot) key. Once you've flattened out, apply throttle.
DmdMax
-
That is known as a stall.
Recover from a stall:
1. chop throttle.
2. Nose down.
3. Apply opposite rudder to the direction of the spin.
Wait for sufficient airspeed :~150 knots. slowly pull out of dive.

you said go into a dive to pick up some speed. How are you going about , maneuvering to gain speed from a dive? walk us thru the mostions.
YOu start spinning &/0r rolling? is your stick "spiking" in any direction, are you holding the stick forward and possibly causing this by left or right input, because you have your deadband set toooo low?
as for stalls? alierion nuetral, elevator ( nose of the plane ) level to the horizon or slightly lower power on ( you just wanting to increase airlift over both wings again
Spins are different "Stalls do not cause spins. A spin is initiated where the pilot includes or fails to include, rudder, aileron, or power individually or in combination during a stall. Auto rotation occurs from an asymmetrical stall and a skid. There is an abrupt loss of control when leaving the stall and entering the spin. The untrained pilot will always react instinctively and apply controls incorrectly thus aggravating the spin entry." REFERENCES; AC 61-21, AC 61-67, operating handbook, flight manual
they are easily recoverable by remembering the following:
PARE ( pronounced pair as in "prepare")
Power Off ( cut throttle )
Alierons nuetral ( center the stick )
Rudder opposite of direction of turn/spinning motion until spinning stops, let off rudder , if you go to far it will possibly spin oppisite direction
Elevator forward
as you regain speed ( preferably 150 or greater ) slowly pull out to level flight
this will get you out of most tail / vertical spins
horizontal / flat spins are a little more difficult but with practice and seat time managable.
with having the inverted flat spin being the worse to recover from...........
practice, practice, practice

Yeah, and there's my favorite; the inverted flat fall. No spin, no rotation, no horizontal airspeed. The 110 is one heck of a flying quirk.
-
Just to make things clear:
When you dive you put your nose low so the plane goes faster.
You said you spin out on dive...did you pull up and climb, get slow and then spin out? That would be a steep climb, not a dive?
@iceman i really appreciate your helping so much, but could you order your posts a bit with some paragraphs? i feel like in GDR sitting behind a wall....

Yep. Love that one. Especially in Hurricane Mk1 ;).
Recovering from flatspins in Mk1 i learned that in severe cases you can also try lowering your gear in addition to the PARE. I dont know for what reason, but it worked.

This is not true. The tempest is fastest prop plane in game down low. It costs perks yes, but la7 is only fastest free prop plane, not the fastest. That is an important point, cause otherwise youll hear somebody say again " how could you catch me, la7 is the fastest?".
And i want to disagree on the other statement too. La7 is quite good at 17k, really looses it above 18k though. To say its bad over 10k is missleading.

It works because the lowerd gear increases the friction the plane imposes to the spin. More lateral resistence to spin, to be more precise more resistence than the spin momentum that is generated by the wings and stabilisers, which is the problem of the spin, gets you out since it slows it down.
Let me try it the other way round: Problem of the spin is that due to the spin the wings and tail fins produce forces that sustain the spin instead of stabilising it or eaven accelerate it. Add a little more friction to the spin so that it just slows down a tiny bit and the forces gernerated are lower, whereas the little friction is enough to slow down the spin further more finally giving you the possibility to stabilize the plane again.
Hope the explanation is understandable.

to give more details, i will be flying level or close to level at about 5 to 6 k feet. then i nose the plane down to pick up speed. it seems like more often than not that if i "dive" to hard or maybe turn a little bit in the dive, the plane starts rolling going down...not spinning. you can see the scenery rolling around and so forth. if i am rolling to the right, i try to turn back to the left and sometimes (not all the time) i can get it to roll to the left and then it will keep rolling to the left...lol....then back to the right...lol....more rolling...no control, then i go visit Jaque Custo in the ocean...hheheee....i can usually straighten it up IF i nose the plane down and get more airspeed to correct. usuallly by that time im too close to the water and i crash...thats what i am battling with the most right now.....other than the fact that i suck hheee..:)

whats your airspeed when you "nose over"? If you move the controls too quickly while having very little air running over your wings it can cause you to loose control.
On the other hand if your tooling along at 350-400 and you get this "rolling" as you nose down, you could have a problem with the way your joystick is set-up. You MUST calibrate the joystick first in windows, then AGAIN in the game. Leaving the "Settings" of the joystick set to default for the time being might be a good thing. Also check to make sure your not getting any spiking in your stick. You can check all this in the notebook, joystick, settings section of the notebook. All the input line should be strait across in the "input" window. Move the stick around to see hoe "smooth" your lines move on the input window.

well i did calibrate the joystick in windows and in the game, but now that you mention it, i think it is my airspeed as i start to nose down. i am probably not going fast enough..:)

You might want to try adjusting your stick scale some too. It helps a lot.
Here's my stick scale if you want to give it a try.
